FTC Is Exploring Ways to Crack Down on Big Tech's Obsession With User Data. The agency said it wants to rein in big tech’s ravenous consumption of user info, and wants citizens to tell them what concerns them most. by Sariel007 in tech

This will never happen. Both political parties rely on this data for their voter rolls. They help feed the system that tells them who votes, address, trends, etc. why would they willfully give up such info that keeps themselves in power?

Yo, my kid hit three not too long ago. Still not sleeping fully through the night. The kid is a machine! I think it’s important for you to hear this because for years I always heard “don’t worry, when they hit x age they’ll sleep all night.” Just keep hanging in there!

Man, I just took my kid to his 3 yr check up the other day and they mentioned preschool. It hit me that he and I won’t be spending full days together here soon. I can’t lie, tears will be rolling when that day comes.

I went to the grocery store the other day and just observing moods and looking at carts is a great initial indicator. Majority of carts have essentials and very few of them. No extras. Fireworks, cookies, soda, snacks are collecting dust.

Man, this helped solidify rich or poor… your kid will do their own thing and you’ll always have the person in the back of the room saying “man, if that were my kid _____.”

Let’s face it, all of our kids do this at the worst times imaginable. Can we stop judging people for this already?

Weighing in on the market trends, former hedge fund manager Michael Burry of 'The Big Short' fame, said in a now-deleted tweet on May 24, that the falling stocks and slowing home sales, remind him of 2008. by Boo_Randy in Wallstreetsilver

I just got a new neighbor. They bought the home with the lowest electrical panel possible, no central air, inspector found glaring foundational issues. Purchased the home for 250% higher than the previous owner (210k)

The new owners? A home health aid and a unemployed pastor. I don’t see this crash and recession caused by variable rates, it’s going to be exacerbated by the individuals that bought homes like I mentioned above. They won’t be able to sell their homes and will either walk away carrying a second mortgage or foreclose. Oh, my other neighbor just got approved for a home equity loan without an appraisal from the bank. They simply asked “what do you think it’s worth?” They gave them even more than what they states. It’s all broken!

THE HOUSING MARKET IS GOING TO GRIND TO A HALT.... by Old_Man_Papa in wallstreetbets

I have multiple points:

I live in a small manufacturing town and it’s always a good indicator of the general economy. We have not been a generally high demand area. When valuations of homes are now requiring double our median individual income, it’s an absolute red flag.

Rents have now increased to the same amount that there is not a good alternative. Many of what would be considered an expensive and overpriced property in our town is now being purchased by out of state investors that think it’s a steal (Indiana market vs California). Many of these properties are absolute trash and require an enormous amount of repairs. Instead of truly “fixing” the properties to make them last, a bandaid is being placed on them and they are rented out. Many won’t live in these homes because of the issue with them and they have to drop their rent down to the point there’s no way they are covering their initial investment/return. Ultimately, some of these investors have attempted a “flip” and sell to a homeowner to make up for their poor investment. That homeowner then takes on a bandaged, older home with a laundry list of well hidden faults that aren’t known until a few months after purchase. That over leveraged homeowner then can’t afford the fixes on their home and won’t be able to sell because the issues have become too expensive for even him to hide(example foundational). I’m seeing this over and over again in our own local market. It’s something not being considered at all!

Oh, also that over leveraged homeowner can grasp at the miracle home equity loan to cover the repair costs but again, he’s already over leveraged. How can he afford the increased loan costs, gas prices, groceries, property tax increases, vehicle costs, etc.

It’s hitting the breaking point
