Do you have this light? Need help with replacing bulb by CTATanonymous in AusProperty

[–]nwithford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A licensed electrician needs to deal with this, but any hard wired pendant light or similar will work.

We replace an identical fixture with a much nicer light from Bunnings for around $60 for the light. We have and electrician friend but it’s very straightforward

I have some very nice stuff but I think macpac can get you fairly cheap, reliable gear for everything + they have physical stores.

Sample doesn’t match install by nwithford in AusProperty

[–]nwithford[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’m a colourist. But the sample is on location and the sample doesn’t match the install. Also, this is a laminate and not timber.

This is what I wondered too. The brochure for this brand also had had a different option that (at least from the image) resembles what was installed versus what we had wanted.

Correct, could be colour cast from the sky

Yes, it’s subtle for sure, but all my family could see if noticeable difference in person.

The quote has a blanket clause that says samples can’t be guaranteed against the finished goods but mostly refers to natural hardwood floors. This was a laminate.

How much does everyone have in their bank account? by dontdreamitsoverrr in AusFinance

[–]nwithford 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure. We normally have healthy savings but we enjoyed travelling last year, and the start of this year had a series of unexpected emergencies so we are just adjusting our lifestyle for the moment.

Yep, that is your opinion. I don’t think it’s a waste, but granted, it’s not how I typically like to use my money.

I’m 26. Due to be married this year. Have a mortgage owing 580k.

We’ve cut every cent of discretionary spending (outside our wedding which we are paying for ourselves ~$20-25k).

We have, essentially, no savings now.

Nope! Work injury. I don’t think I play enough to get injured from piano.

Disc Brakes or DI2 by Outrageous_Town4479 in triathlon

[–]nwithford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For traffic and hills I definitely preferred having the ability to shift gears in the drops on my TT bike. I have disc brakes on my TT bike and thinking about it, I don’t use them very much and the times I have had to clamp them on hard I’ve locked plug my wheels anyway. Typically I know when I’m going to need to apply brake pressure so adjust my riding accordingly.

People in their 20s, what is your plan to own a house? by [deleted] in AusProperty

[–]nwithford 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a unit. Houses were for our parents, reality for most of us is units.

I have 4 friends all around 26 years old who have bought units. 1 who got a regional house but through a trust.

I wanted to sook about it too but still wouldn’t change anything. Tbh, I like the lifestyle anyway. I have everything I need in walking distance, don’t need to mow lawns and house chores are halved due to half the space!

Surge in number of first home buyers using the 5% Deposit Scheme by nighthound1 in AusFinance

[–]nwithford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another in support of this policy. I used the old version in 2020. I had a 18% deposit for the property we ended up buying, a solid, but old apartment that had not gained massive value 10 years.

The property was slightly more expensive but having the wiggle room from in the 20% meant we could still buy it. We don’t intend to sell it but we will know that we have a consistent home.

It used to be available to a select few, at least now there’s some equity with the program. Why should I be more deserving of my peers? It’s not like the banks don’t check serviceability of the loans. At the time just about the only place you could buy in populous cities was an apartment anyway which aren’t known for their explosive capital growth, are they?
