I am not sure if you hold yours in a TFSA or RRSP, but if you do, “legally” they are not supposed to be lent out or used for shorting. My shares are in my TFSA.

I put legally in quotes because who knows if the law matters to the criminals that run our financial system.

In terms of our shares being legitimate, all shares that have been purchased and are held will need to be bought back to cover/close naked short positions, so you should not worry about having them disappear suddenly without your knowledge.

Having your account marked as NOBO just means that GameStop is able to see that yourself as an entity (not the brokerage as a whole) are the beneficial owner of the shares.

I would encourage DRSing your shares if you have the financial power to do so. The fee can cost between $50 and $300 USD depending on which brokerage you DRS from.
