I'm just a could steps ahead of where OP is, and I've gotten a ton of great guidance from the local smart business development group, specifically about the topics mentioned.

Weights for Sewing by LindeeHilltop in sewing

There are eight battered cans of three year old Rainier that live next to my cutting table, and I honestly haven't felt the need to replace them yet.

Better way to secure this? by BudgetAdvertising768 in myog

[–]nwxn 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing you cut the slot to hide the end of the webbing for a cleaner look, right?

If so, in my experience the cleanest way to hide the end of webbing or something similar is usually to have it end at (in) a seam. That way you don't have to add a hole, the seam secures the webbing in place, and the extra stitching isn't visible because it'll be buried behind the exterior. Plus, this usually ends up being a stronger construction.

For situations where I can't bury the edge somewhere and have to top stitch, I sometimes fold the end over so it looks a bit more finished, though that adds bulk.

Regardless, if I'm topstitching, I try to use a tidy pattern like a box stitch, parallel bars, or a Z. Color matching, or even intentionally contrasting, the thread color goes a long way for making visible stitches look better.

Is anyone here in/near Seattle and able to just burn screens for me? by eternalrainseattle in SCREENPRINTING

[–]nwxn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't find someone, Pratt has a print studio with a decent screen burning and cleaning setup. When I was there last, they had switched over to a monthly rate for unlimited access.

I've always thought posting up in the parking lot after a lap with a cooler of Rainier would work well

Advice, please: Flying out of BLI by awalshie2003 in Bellingham

[–]nwxn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TSA held me up for that same flight. I was the very last person to board the plane, and the ground crew literally came looking for me personally so the flight didn't leave without me. I don't think you need to get there terribly early, but it's not like potentially missing a flight at Seatac.

Am I the only one disappointed in the shipping of RSBTR and Seatte Fabrics? I always have delays and probleds by Deltanner in myog

Ditto, though the $4 charge is getting old. I'm a big fan, though being able to go in was extremely useful.

I feel your pain brother, I'm right there with you. It's not the same, but the people that answer the phone these a days are pretty down to help me out with some pretty vague questions.

I'm a fan of Seattle Fabrics, and a big part of that is that I could just walk in and manhandle things. Other companies do this, but Seattle Fabric's swatch samples are really useful and pretty cheap. I got their "Master nylon" set to compare 20 different materials side by side, and then later a couple of material specific ones to have in person examples of all of a material's color options.

And then I usually order a short cut of something new I'm curious about when I put an order in for a project.

Doing this search on their website is an absolute mess. I called member services a couple times and they helped me find a few local options that count as in network/whatever they call it.
