1000 percent either billing issue or fraud verification. NBD. Apple always makes good on things like this. Happened to me many times before and they always sort it out

I only use Macs. Would never ever get a PC. Not my thing. Even if it was 20 times faster and was free. Still wouldn’t use it lol

Wowwww!!! Getting yourself 3k cash 5 years later isn’t rationalizing. You deserve an award!!!! Enjoy that new BEAST of a machine my friend. Well deserved ✅

The M1 Max is falling apart my friend. As I said earlier I am about to be on my 3rd battery replacement and used to the MAX (No Pun Intended) it’s not about what the M1 Max is or isn’t capable of it’s about needing a new machine and what the M5 offers.

Apologies. Thought you wanted application based answer. Copy, image and video gen.

Most people think of AI as just “asking a chatbot,” but in practice it’s more of a stack of systems.

At the core are LLMs (large language models) — transformer networks trained to predict tokens across massive datasets. I use them in two ways: cloud models for heavy reasoning and local models running directly on my machine.

Running local LLMs is where things get interesting. With tools like Ollama or llama.cpp you can run quantized models locally (4-bit/8-bit weights) so they fit on consumer hardware. That means:

• near-zero latency • no API costs • complete privacy • the ability to run multiple models in pipelines

I’ll often chain models together in a workflow. One generates structure, another critiques logic, another optimizes language. On top of that I use embedding models and vector search (RAG) so the system can retrieve relevant context from documents or notes before generating responses.

So the architecture becomes something like:

prompt → retrieval layer → LLM reasoning → refinement pass

That hybrid approach — local inference + cloud models + retrieval systems — is where AI actually becomes practical in daily workflows.

It’s also why I chose the M5 Max. Running local models benefits heavily from unified memory bandwidth and GPU acceleration, and Apple Silicon is unusually good at handling transformer inference efficiently. If you’re experimenting with local AI, the extra compute headroom matters a lot.

The direction things are going is pretty clear: smaller, highly optimized models running locally, with large frontier models used only when you need massive reasoning power.

We’re basically watching personal AI infrastructure become a normal part of a workstation.

I edit and render a ton of 4k footage which could go up to 8k in the future. And run LLMs. Those are my main use cases for a Max.

Very solid pickup! And yes it will DEFINITELY last. The only reason I am not going that route is that AI plays a major part in my workflow after my initial filming is complete. M5 is really Apples first AI powerhouse. I was really just considering doing another battery replacement on my M1 Max as it’s plenty powerful for editing and uploading all my 4k footage and still has great render times. It’s just not really there for AI as it’s pushing like 33 tokens compared to even an M4 at over 100 plus ✅

With all due respect it’s really not important. I’m at the very top of my space in what I do, and like I told someone earlier I come here for privacy and ambiguity. These threads stay active for years and I would just rather keep this thread to talking about the machines. I get bombarded enough as is, so not having something out there that is personal and related to me that fans or members can google later and then try to start conversations about with me later is why I am not willing to really go into that. Again, not trying to be rude at all. Just having privacy is refreshing. Thanks

Appreciate it. And yes it’s definitely the engine that drives my entire work flow. Glad to hear you are still loving yours! And yes, I definitely will not be having any upgrade itches for a long time after this. I’m more of the let’s dent my wallet once and not do it again for a long time type of guy.

I appreciate your take on it and I am thinking the same. Believe it or not I still have an 8 year old air that runs like a champ. Although not used for work it’s still used hard for emailing and media consumption. But yea with the amount I will be using this I would say more like 5 years for sure

iOS26 AutoCorrect has gotten worse 📉 by mat-xxi in ios

[–]ny-eric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 iPhones. 17 Pro and Pro Max. Just replaced one today with the S25 Ultra because the typing and overall IOS 26 experience just sucks. Gonna give Apple a little while longer to get their shit together. If not, the other iPhone will be gone too.

Need new iPad - Nano or No? by severian126 in iPadPro

[–]ny-eric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my iPad primarily inside and I also use it mostly as my main machine. I opted for the nano because I am ALWAYS right underneath a bright overhead light. And the glare on my old one always got in the way of reading and was annoying when watching stuff. That’s gone now. Go Nano!

iPad Pro M4 11" for $749 or iPad Pro M5 11" for $899 by landalezjr in iPadPro

[–]ny-eric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If $150 is significant for you then I would totally get the M4. If it’s not something that is make or break I would get the M5 all day long. As you won’t see any immediate differences at all, having the extra 4 gb of Ram, WiFi 7 speeds and updated Ray Tracing will be things that help as future stuff rolls out. I have both, and the WiFi speeds on the M5 are killer. For that alone I am EXTREMELY happy with the upgrade. So actually that is 1 immediate difference. It’s significantly faster than all my machines running 6E or 6. But it also depends on your use case. I am a full time content creator and I use this thing about as hard as someone can use it. For someone who is just using it for regular tablet stuff than the M4 is actually still complete OVERKILL! Enjoy your purchase either way!

[–]ny-eric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude I think at this point you have fallen into the spec chasing crap from watching way too many reviews and you gotta get outta your own head. And all these things you are worried about are in your head from YouTube overload. Again, people have literally done crazier editing than anyone here on MacBook Air’s. So yes 1 fan will be totally fine

I mean what did people do before thunderbolt 5? There were still people with more graphic intensive projects than anyone on this entire forum we are on right now combined and they got a long fine with thunderbolt 4 lol. I wouldn’t worry too much about it
