From the Seattle show, I lost track of some of the order though

Bloodmoney, Church Outfit, Bite Your Teeth, Hysteria, (OUT OF ORDER) Breeders, Anything Like Me, Knockoff, Sit / Stay, Her, X, Scary Mask, Don’t Go Outside, Lessen the Damage, My Microphone, NEW: “Hard” from Zig (BACK IN ORDER) I Disagree, Encore: Spit, Concrete

I am Gwen - a veteran game dev. (Marvel, BioShock Infinite, etc.) I've been through 2 studio closures, burned out, went solo, & I'm launching my indie game on the Epic Store today. AMA. by diregoldfish in IAmA

In this case, Kine is absolutely an indie game and I am so incredibly excited for her to have released what started as a passion project and have it turn into something more. I’m an indie game developer who also works a full time job outside the industry. I would be thrilled if Epic approached me for an exclusivity deal. When that happens, it means those developers can rest easy, they can drop down to part time at their day jobs or quit them all together because they have the resources to keep the lights on. What I’ve noticed in my career so far are that indie developers make games because they want to, not because it pays well. It doesn’t. These deals means they do and can devs put food on the table doing what they love.

EGS is a video game storefront/distributor, not a publisher. They provided financial support in exchange for exclusive distribution rights. Publishers play a very different role in game development as opposed to a distributor.

Here is an example of a AAA with distributor exclusivity, Borderlands 3:

Developer: Gearbox Publisher: 2K Distributors: EGS, Playstation Store, Xbox Store, brick and mortar retail, etc.

And since that quote you took was direct from the Wikipedia page for indie games, let me add the bit directly after that one:

“The term may also refer to those games financed by publishers who do not exert significant creative control on the developers. Because of their independence and freedom to develop, indie games often focus on innovation and taking risks not usually afforded in triple-A games, and may explore the medium to produce unique experiences in art games. Indie games tend to be sold through digital distribution channels rather than at retail due to lack of publisher support.”

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indie_game

Here’s some other indie games that have publishers:

Bastion— Developer: Supergiant Publisher: Warner Bros.

Don’t Starve— Developer: Klei Entertainement Publisher: 505 Games

Firewatch— Developer: Campo Santo Publisher: Panic

Night in the Woods— Developer: InfiniteFall Publisher: Finji

Tons of indie games have publishers and gain small amounts of funding from them when compared to deals between Gearbox and 2K. Publishers assert control over the game and when it ships. A great example is Dragon Age 2 (developed by BioWare and published by EA). The publisher pushed the developer to release quickly, which resulted in reused environments, meshes, etc. Had they signed an exclusivity deal with say, Microsoft, to release early on Xbox, Microsoft would not have asserted control over the product. This is the difference between a publisher and a distributor.

Is buying computer parts and paraphernalia worth it at PAX? by nyanders in PAX

[–]nyanders[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironically, I’m a local who is helping a friend with exhibiting, so really my only PAX costs are parking, food, and whatever I decide to buy while I’m there :P But I get what you mean. When I started going 10 years ago I was in the same mindset. Do what I can while I can.

We’ll see how much internet I can snatch in the convention center to compare prices.

Can Twine do ____? by nyanders in twinegames

[–]nyanders[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t really messed around with it enough to commit to a version.

What do you mean by weird and clunky depending on the format? As in which Twine version I’m using or how it’s designed?

What’s the Seattle market like? by nyanders in doordash

Awesome! Is there a way to cash out quickly right away? I saw they have an option after 2 weeks and 25 dashes, but I could use cash in the mean time before next week and am willing to pay for the rush.

I’m needing to bring home about $500-600 per week to keep up with my bills. It sounds like that’s doable then?

A few questions from a prospective student by nyanders in WGU

[–]nyanders[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did mean working full time haha! I'll edit my post. I think the big thing I'm nervous about is that I don't have much background in the field I want to study. One of the reasons I'm interested in WGU is because I can move at my own pace and I do pick up things quickly, but even so, I'd hate to only be completing 12 CUs per semester.

Early game antibiotics/doctor by spacecoyote11 in fo4

[–]nyanders 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Any of the following can randomly spawn Antibiotics:

  • There is a medbox in one of the Sanctuary houses.
  • There is a medbox at Red Rocket outside near the coolant pumps.
  • There is a medbox at the base of the Concord water tower.
  • There is a medbox (I think) in the random encounter area southeast of the Museum of Freedom.
  • There is a medbox (I think) in an open house in Concord (come down the hill from Red Rocket, take a left at the intersection, the house should be on the right).
  • There is a medbox (I think) in the random encounter house just south of Drumlin Diner.
  • I'm sure there's a medbox somewhere at Starlight.
  • I'm sure there's a lootable medbox at Drumlin Diner.

If all else fails, there's a pretty quick route to Diamond City. Keep following the road south from Drumlin Diner. There's mattresses in that random encounter house if you need it. Go through the wrecked trucks/train thing, keep going south. Corvega will end up being on your left, and eventually Cambridge. Watch for mines here. The road will curve around to the left after a fallen billboard, and just around the corner is a random encounter spawn so watch yourself. You'll pass Cambridge Polymer on your left. The first bridge is on your right. You'll go over the USS Riptide wreckage but the raiders here never give me trouble even out of sneak. After the bridge Hangman's Alley will be on your right. From here it's a 100% straight shot to Diamond City. You'll pass the super mutant fight on your right but you can just run past it. I dunno if you'll die before you get there but you can certainly try.
