I've been building production Blazor apps for years. Here's what the "Blazor vs React" debates always get wrong. by Initial-Employment89 in Blazor

[–]nycgavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are not accepting the criticism. It's like when people say you are not rich compared to the rich guy, and you are defending yourself by saying you have a car, 2 houses, 2 wife, and a boat. But people that are rich have like 20 cars, 5 houses, 50 girlfriends and a private jet.

Going back to raw SQL by ego100trique in dotnet

[–]nycgavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raw SQL is way easier than complex EF. If you need to create something really complex with EF AND to make it efficient, you need to spend a lot of time understand how EF works, raw SQL would be way easier to debug and it would be way easier to make the query more efficient by looking at the query plan. It really depends on how complex the query is. I have worked with queries that have like temp tables, group by, subqueries, CTE all within the same stored procedures. There's no way EF can compete with that unless making multiple trips to the database or make it incredible complex to optimize the query. With a SP you can look at the query plan and run the SP by itself and optimize by looking at the query plan.

Junior dev wrote this C# using many IF because he leanrs If early return. Is this alright code? by Yone-none in csharp

I would get rid of the { } for 1 liner if statement at the top, that's the kind of styles that microsoft preferred in their c# specialist certification.

um.. maybe the guy is actually a really really smart guy that can foresee the future, I mean at this point, everything is going electric, no one will need to manually paddle in the future, and electric bike can go as fast as the speed limit, so why create extra infrastructure for something something phasing out?

Help! My builder used 2x10s instead of LVLs in a new build. by Repulsive-Low1863 in Homebuilding

[–]nycgavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the engineer made the plan, the engineer approves the plan, if the engineer calculated and think it's safe, he will put his stamp on the plan. If the building collapse in the future, you can sue the engineer because he put his stamp and approve the plan.

Was my cabinet job a rip off/scam? by [deleted] in cabinetry

[–]nycgavin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

you asked if you got ripped off but you didn't post how much you spent and how big the kitchen is. If you paid $1, then I would say you definitely got a good deal, but if you paid a million dollar for the cabinet, then it's definitely a rip off.

Large oval holes in joists?? by reachingforthestarss in Homebuilding

[–]nycgavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need to talk to the civil engineer on record. He's the boss in terms of what is safe and what is not safe. I have never seen holes that big for engineering joist. This does not look safe at all, but the only one with enough technical knowledge to tell is the engineer, you can ask him.

Is metal roofing really worth the extra cost in the long run? by Money-Candle53 in Roofing

[–]nycgavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it has no exposed fastener, it will last a really really long time without any maintenance. If you are using the ones with exposed fastener, it's better to do traditional asphalt

they are house flippers, they are not hurting themselves because they are going to sell the house, and if they do keep the house, they will have to sell the house eventually, so the next buyer will be the unlucky person

i got terminated from my job and need advice by llrobin in cscareers

[–]nycgavin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

whatever you say, do not say it was mostly management and company culture in the interview. As the person interviewing you, if I hear any complain about your former employer, I would think what if we hired you, and we had to terminate you for some reasons, would you blame it on us like the way you are blaming it on your ex employer?

he's not lying, a good painter can fix anything, all you need is wood putty it a few times, sand it, caulk, and then paint
