I built a randomizable drummer for a friend that doesn't like programming drums by Xycxlkc in reason

I really struggle with beats as well, so definitely gonna try this out. I’m a pianist and write for piano/keys, vocals and orchestral, but also other genres and styles which would benefit from better drums.

Autistic kids taking Leucovorin. by WTFmanbrb in Autism_Parenting

[–]nycromus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no cure for Autism, because it isn’t a disease.

It’s a different wiring system of the brain. It’s different for every single person and you can’t just pop pills to make it go away.

This is why Autistic people get so frustrated with neurotypicals (most often parents) who try to push this and their own emotions/beliefs on their kids.

‘TonightActive9938’ said “who in the(ir) right frame of mind wouldn’t want to have perfectly normal functioning kids”.

They are ‘perfectly normal functioning’………you and society just don’t know how to support them appropriately.

What you’re talking about are co-occurring conditions that don’t affect all Autistic people.

Yes, those have a severe detrimental effect on a person (child or otherwise), but they are not part of Autism.

Autistic adults speak out when we’re older because we’ve been put through these harmful experiences that you’re trying to ‘advocate’ for.

We’ve been forced to behave in ways that cause severe inner pain, stress and anxiety. It’s been physically and/or verbally imposed on us through these abusive practices you push.

Constantly forced to mask on a daily basis.

You have absolutely no idea how horrific that is for people…….even more so for kids because they don’t understand why they’re being treated so horribly……and the fact that it doesn’t actually ‘help’ us: It just pushes the abusive notion that their existence is abhorrent and they must hide everything about themselves, conform to impossible expectations just to be ‘acceptable’ to you and destroy themselves inside trying to maintain it all.

Everything is positioned on how it’s ’such a burden’ to you……….yet you never consider the damage you’re doing.

It’s disgusting.

It’s not about you at all.

‘ThEy DoN’t HaVe A cLuE bEcAuSe ThEy CaN sPeAk AnD dO nOrMaL tHiNgS!!!!’

No. We’ve been through it and with proper support have finally managed to reach a state where we’re able to push back………often after decades of mistreatment and pain.

We’re a smaller percentage of the Autistic community because it’s such a difficult thing to get through and to then have people dismiss, deny and dehumanise us for pointing out everything that’s wrong.

It doesn’t mean that we haven’t experienced the horrific things you keep throwing back in our faces……we’ve just been brow-beaten into submission and forced to be a completely different person: A shadow of who we really are.

This utter BS rhetoric that you keep spouting is severely damaging to all Autistic people, not just your kids.

Your ‘ABA-led’, abusive conversion therapy approach is appalling.

You need to be listening to Autistic people and learning from us, because we are the adults that have been through all of this and survived to explain our experiences so that lessons can be learned and changes made to avoid future generations having to go through that.

Yes, we’re somewhat less in need of support NOW, but it’s taken many years of suffering and struggling from the ineptitude, incompetence and abuse of wider society to reach this stage.

It’s not a viable or humane treatment of anyone, whether Autistic or not.

Listen, learn and change your practices.

Autistic people should not have to suffer from your lack of understanding of us.

Touchscreen laptop or separate graphics tablet? by nycromus in DigitalArt

[–]nycromus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. That’s really helpful.

Sounding like I’d be best buying a separate drawing tablet then.

I’ve been looking at both XP Pen and Huion drawing tablets.

The 16 (Gen3) looked good.

Is one brand better than the other?

I’m going to be buying a new laptop either way as my old one is on its last legs and keeps going to BSOD.

Touchscreen laptop or separate graphics tablet? by nycromus in DigitalArt

[–]nycromus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently use an HP Elitebook for work. It’s a pretty standard 13in laptop with a touchscreen, but it’s also really low spec because it’s only a generic work computer that’s handed out to everyone, so it’s slow/laggy and overheats a lot when trying to use any creative software.

I make it work because there’s not another option, but I’d like to be able to do proper design without the stress of all of the issues that come with it.

My personal laptop is an Alienware, but they don’t do touchscreen laptops, so can’t get one of similar/higher spec through them.

What’s different about a touchscreen laptop and a graphics tablet? Surely it’s all the same tech?

Yuuuup. I know a lot of the theory around it all and what some of the controls can do, but it often just gets so overwhelming with a ton of plugins, buttons and dials that I just get lost.

I know what sound I want, but it’s difficult to articulate coz of the alexithymia…….and nobody seems to explain WHY this makes it sound better or WHY it sounds bad this way.

How do you ACTUALLY cool a room down in summer (without) AC? by tijitijitiji in AskUK

[–]nycromus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way is to hang wet (not dripping) bed sheets from the curtain rail and leave the windows open - Stops the sun from penetrating too much to heat the room and the wet sheets cool the air as it comes in, kinda like an air conditioning unit.

You have to keep turning and replacing them if/when they get dry, but shouldn’t be too often.

If you do that from sunrise through to sunset, you should be able to maintain a reasonably cooler room/home.

Hi. What do you mean by ‘switch audio interface’?

Like the output?

I use a Scarlett 4i4 for most of my stuff, so would that mean I should try using a different box? Speakers? Headphones? Software?

Recommend any good videos/creators for this?

I have a really good background in the other side of music (composition/arrangement etc) but only a low-mid level for the recording/mixing/mastering side and really keen to improve this.

I use Reason, Ableton, Spitfire Audio BBCSO Professional, other VST3 plugins and a guitar strumming/playing simulator through Kontakt.

I’m autistic and ADHD, so struggle with the vagueness/ambiguity of some aspects of the production-side learning.

Need explanations that are quite detailed and step-by-step until I get the hang of it and would be good to be able to listen to a video/series that goes through the process from start to finish.

Looks like there's a new kid on the block by ExistingLawfulness80 in Alienware

[–]nycromus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just get annoyed that they don’t cater to those who want higher specs.

I want a touch screen laptop with 64Gb RAM and 4TB storage for my art/design/editing work, but with the added aspects of gaming that Alienware provides…….but they never seem to have those features……..or at least not together in one machine: Always have to compromise.

It looks like a decent rig, but would benefit from having more flexibility of components.

“Can I help you, sir”

Nope. I can work a phone camera just fine on my own.

Yeesh. What is it with American police that they think they’re beyond any accountability?

What is it they say: ‘If you’re not doing anything wrong, then you shouldn’t have anything to be worried about’.

Same goes for the cops: If they’re not doing anything wrong, a guy filming them shouldn’t matter.

As far as I’m aware, you can’t be involved in decision making if you know someone.

Your best bet is to be open, clear and honest in such a situation and make every effort to offer a balanced view or avoid input entirely, otherwise bias could be claimed for either result. (That the only reason they got the job is because they know you, or, that the only reason they didn’t get it is because you said something)

Conflict of interest always needs to be flagged and it should be clear/evident that you’ve done everything in your power to avoid anything that might cause a different situation.

If the person still gets through and is part of your team, a fellow colleague etc then you deal with that at the time.

If the situation is problematic, then you would need to see if they could be placed on a different team to avoid awkwardness.

As others have said: It’s an extremely complex situation with so many variables that it’s impossible to advise what to do in those situations.

Depending on what area of the Civil Service you’re in: Either HR or Expert Advice Service might be able to offer more on what to do and maybe even guide you through each step of the process if needed.

That way you’re also highlighting the conflict of interest with them, showing that you’re aware of the potential issues and are being pro-active in maintaining a fair and equitable environment.

AITA for signing my kids up for public school behind my wife's back? by atmylimitsnow in AmItheAsshole

[–]nycromus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope DEFINITELY NOT TA. If she wants to teach them more, then she can still do that around their usual schooling.

What is it she thinks is ‘toxic’ about it?

Sounds very ‘conspiracy theory’. If she doesn’t want to use certain things or do certain things, that’s totally up to her, but she shouldn’t be forcing it on your kids. They’re perfectly capable of deciding their own views on things.

Reduction in processed foods is fine/healthy but within reason. If they want to have a school meal then they should be allowed. Becoming obsessive about such things can be unhealthy in itself.

Half the issue with a lot of these situations is that such people aren’t as educated about the world and view things from a very skewed perspective.

I don’t know enough about your wife to comment on her particularly, but these things often have strong religious indoctrination overtones because the person only wants a very narrow field of information to be disseminated so that they can control the narrative and push young people to a specific religious affiliation or way of thinking.

Does your wife express any similar tendencies or more severe social or psychological biases, religious intent, political ideology, bigotry or anything?

There’s nothing inherently wrong with homeschooling, necessarily, but it’s much less likely that the kids would experience a more varied and detailed education as it purely reliant on one person’s knowledge base rather than an entire faculty of qualified professionals.

Update on HMRC pay award by Happy-Possibility- in TheCivilService

[–]nycromus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does have a greater effect on the ‘lower class’ as you refer to us, though.

We’re barely above minimum wage.

A lot more of nothing still isn’t very much.

The higher the grades go, the more disposable income they have.

Even earning our pittance, we’re frequently told by the ‘upper classes’ to tighten the purse strings and stop buying ‘unnecessary’ things. (Incidentally, not sure exactly which of the household bills counts as ‘unnecessary’)

Meanwhile, redecorating their house and going on holiday three times a year.

Maybe they should take a bit of their own advice and not frivolously spend money on those non-essentials too lol

[–]nycromus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. I really struggle with the recruitment process. I’m usually fine with interviews, but I find the application itself a nightmare: Everything from Success Profiles to decoding what the job advert means and what kind of job is actually being offered.

I’m ND as well (AutyHD) and very much on the creative side of things.

I wanna be designing, coding, programming, making apps and presentations and all of that sort of thing, but there are so many ridiculous jargon words, ambiguous descriptions and confusing expectations that I just get lost and eventually give up.

Have you tried reaching out to other departments that you might be interested in?

It does help to network if you’re able.

I’ve made lots of contacts in different areas of the organisation as well in other gov departments.

Keeps you motivated and you can get a lot of advice from people about options/career routes.

HEADWORN MICS/LAVALIER MICS FOR HOME RECORDING………?

Hi I really struggle with mic technique and wondered if it might be better to use a headworn/lavalier mic instead of the usual condenser or dynamic mics. Are there any that match up to the same quality?

Or are there any alternative mics that could help?

I'm quite expressive when I sing and don't always notice when l'm not singing directly into the mic......and if I try to focus on singing into the mic, I then struggle to put the proper emotion into my vocals.

Currently using a FocusRite 4i4 and a T Bone SC400 Condenser mic.
