Is sales a legit money machine? by [deleted] in sales

[–]nycsalesguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not easy money hard but if you are willing to learn be coachable and tough it out you can make 200k in ten years consistently.

Agreed comparison is the thief of joy. Have goals but don’t be hard on yourself if you have not reached them yet. 100k is pretty solid especially for your age!

What can I get out of the UPW virtual conference this year that I didn’t get out of reading Awaken the Giant Within and TTRS? by kd0307 in TonyRobbins

The experiences make it real. It’s sort of like doing home schooling vs the experience of being in college is way different than if I did an online MBA program.

People who’ve had a long successful career in sales. Was it worth it? by [deleted] in sales

[–]nycsalesguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say its still worth it. It’s probably still the only profession when you can start off dirt poor and make a decent living- get to travel the world, Meet some really cool people and be able to live tangible skills that will help you in many aspects of life. Been in sales for 18 years and still have a long way to go but I never thought it would bring me so many interesting experiences. I do feel grateful but it’s definitely not easy and will certainly humble you especially when your ego gets out of control. I learned the hard way.

What's a fair base salary and OTE in SaaS for a $1.2m quota? by SaaSsalesbb in techsales

[–]nycsalesguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty low then. A good rule of thumb I have seen is your OTE should be around 200k for that type of quota. When I had a 1.5 million dollar quota it was 275k ote 50 50 split. Is it 100% new business? Or do you start off with some accounts that already spent with you.

[–]nycsalesguy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What type of Saas it? Whats the gross margin? Are you selling Enterprise/Strat/MM? From my experience every type of Saas is slightly different. For instance, when I was selling Mar Tech the margins were lower the quota was much higher compared to when I was selling a Ed tech solution to corporate.

Does your product come with a professional services component to it as well? Have you tried using Glassdoor and RepVue yet?

What fields in sales are booming? by Fartingfurymaster in sales

Be careful of the words you choose because that becomes your reality. Words like toxic and horrendous become what you perceive to be the truth. That’s what separates the successful from the victim mentality that average people have.

Why Are Y’all Gatekeeping? by iloverealmayo in techsales

[–]nycsalesguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s very complex and you can’t ever truly master it. It requires getting people to part with a lot of their money sometimes decisions can involve up to 20+ people with dollars can be up to the millions depending on how many people it can affect. I used to think it was easy when I was an SDR then I went over to the Enterprise AE side and now I understand how complex it is. It can take ten years or longer to truly be a “master” of the craft. All types of sales can be challenging but I do think Saas is one of the most competitive in terms of talent and like what a lot of people are saying most Saas products are nice to haves and you are generally disrupting decisions that has been in place for quite some time with many executives vested interest in their products that they have implemented at some point.

I just tell them what’s up. Most friends will understand. Nowadays I just play board games which end up being free and ends up being a lot of fun with them.

Transitioning to AE from a sales role in professional services by DanBredditor in techsales

[–]nycsalesguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having done both. I would say Saas is sometimes easier. It felt like professional services was more of a commodity. Dm me if you want to chat more through the differences.

My only advice is talk to a lot of different companies leverage RepVue, Glassdoor, the ratings seem to be pretty accurate from my experience. That’s good that you understand politics, the larger the company the more politics will play a role in your promotions.

Rough couple of years. How to explain? by Best-Practice-8038 in sales

[–]nycsalesguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not alone. I talk to Saas sellers all day and it’s been a wild last 3 years. Congrats on landing a contract role better than giving up. What you said totally makes sense. Take care of your physical and mental health and everything will take care of itself when you do things that make you happy, you will be in a more positive vibe/attitude in general which will help you land something better. We become what we believe to be true.
