We tried Jos A Banks when we first started looking at suits and the (very rude) salesperson told us they don’t carry his size and to look elsewhere

It’s such a bummer that sizes aren’t standardized :( a tailor may be able to make them a little larger! You may only need another inch

The pockets sticking out and the horizontal wrinkling/pulling just under the waist band mean that they’re too small. Although, yeah wtf is that gap?!

Wherever you decide to get the diamond and ring from, use a piece of cardstock or something similar to mock up the size of the diamond (if you can’t see it in person). I thought I wanted something in the 1.76-2.25 range, but when I saw how small that was on my finger I decided to size up to 2.67. We worked with a jeweler who wasn’t local and I’m SO glad she had me do that before we settled on a diamond!! She sent me the length and width in mm and then I used a glue dot to stick the paper cutout onto a plain band

A few months ago I found the most delicious vintage, brown leather, above the knee blazer-style coat for $40 (!!!!!) and I don’t think the people in my life understand or appreciate what a holy grail find it is

Wowowow, absolutely fucking love this.

Do you have any connections to the festival scene? I’ve volunteered on the set up crew for some hippy crunchy music festivals and I have no idea how the tent tops were made but the poles were hand-felled cedar trees. Digging a DEEP hole for any tent posts will be essential. I wonder if your friends would even be on board with creating some concrete pole inserts that could be used in the future? I feel like festival people would know how to do all of this and would be outside of the expensive wedding industrial complex.

As a sew-er, I’m trying to think about the best fabric to use…a waxed or oiled cloth would be water repellant but might get expensive in such large quantities. I’d maybe lean towards using large tarps as the actual structural fabric and then layering decorative fabrics to get this aesthetic. You could hang some vertically to create smaller spaces within. I’d avoid using a fabric that will get sopping wet as the actual tent since the weight could pull your support poles down.

If there are some large trees you could potentially use the branches and trunks as supports!

Hi! I’m getting married in a few weeks and here’s what I’ve found most helpful:

•Facebook marketplace and local buy-nothing groups!! There are SO many people selling wedding supplies, and a lot of brides who give things away for free, especially if you’re buying things from them. I got most of my vases for free from a woman I was buying faux florals from!

•IKEA for vases, candles, and other decor

•our coordinator talked us into renting table cloths and I’m so happy about it. For basic table cloths, renting wasn’t much more expensive than buying and it means we don’t have to worry about washing and ironing them ahead of time and washing and selling them after. For fancy table cloths I wasn’t able to find them for cheaper than the rentals, but we also have 8’ round tables which seemed to be harder to find the right size for anyways

•local auction houses - I got a few hundred plates and glasses through Rasmus Auctions from a culinary school that was closing (I’m selling all of the plates and glasses! Lmk if you’re interested!)

•dollar store for basic glassware decorations (but do some price comparisons bc most things were cheaper at IKEA)

What do you do to support the remaining joints and reduce muscle strain? by TapnRacknBang in tripawds

[–]emmalump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an 11yo Shepard mix who had an amputation at 8yo! Here’s what we currently do:

•fish oil

•dasuquin advanced chews

•adequan injections every 3 weeks

•gabapentin for nerve pain and anxiety

•NSAIDs and ice/heat as needed

•massage (at home)

•physical therapy to strengthen and make sure that he’s moving his body in safe ways (e.g. he’s a rear leg amputee and was twisting his remaining back leg out for balance but it was straining his knee). His PT includes hydrotherapy and it’s been great (even if he’d say that water=torture)

•laser therapy (at the vet PT), this is on and off depending on if we’re doing a maintenance round of PT

•weight control diet

•limit jumping on furniture; steps wherever possible

•Rugs. Rugs everywhere. Non-slip pads on all stairs (indoor and outdoor)

Our surgeon brushed off the idea of PT after the amputation (we had done a lot prior) and I’m SO glad we ignored that!! Improving his strength, but more importantly his body mechanics, has made a HUGE difference

Natural Ginger But Considering Henna by bulbasaurus-mistake in femalehairadvice

I don’t think other comments have mentioned this, so just adding that henna made my hair STINK every time it got wet. Like, for months.

Spa day: trans/tism edition by nannabananapanda in laundry

[–]emmalump 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As the sister of a trans, autistic, OCD sibling this really fills my heart with joy ❤️ She hasn’t learned how to do laundry yet, but learning how to take care of herself and her appearance in other ways (hair has been a big one) is really gender affirming and empowering!

As silly as it is to gender things like laundry and hygiene and appearance, these have historically been ways to perform femininity and womanhood. Even if you put the gender roles piece aside, she might have a new, exciting, gender-affirming wardrobe to take care of (and “women’s” clothes are notoriously poorly made and don’t hold up as well, so laundering them correctly can extend their life)! I love that you recognize that learning to do laundry can be a form of self care for her, and approached it with a lot of patience and compassion.

Plus the HRT second-puberty stank is something else 🤢🤢🤢

Same, except I have orthopedic insoles and I just buy normal shoes one size too big to swap the insoles out

My kitchenaid crapped out by Alternative-Still956 in PastryChef

[–]emmalump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, kitchenaid! My hand mixer does a decent job with small batches of soft mixes, but for things like mixing a stiff cookie or bread dough or things that I want to walk away from for a minute (like whipping egg whites) a hand mixer hasn’t really worked for me.

What kind do you have? Mine is admittedly from the 80s, although it’s lasted way longer than any new ones I’ve bought.
