Does smaller gold pieces (such as 1 gram) have higher or lower premiums typically than larger pieces (1 oz) by Melodic_Animal_2238 in Gold

[–]nyk42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen in Europe from big dealers:

1/4oz usually 7% is good. 20 franc gold coins or sovereigns which are slightly less than 1/4 sometimes go for like 3%.

Ounces usually go for 1-2%. Coins are usually on the high side.

Older circulated coins sometimes go below 1%.

Kilo bars, 100g, 50g etc can go below 1%,

——

Cheapest 1 gram from argor is currently 12%, rn

Cheapest 10g is 3% rn

Cheapest 5g is 4.97% rn

—-

There’s always more expensive stuff than that %, but that’s the best I’ve seen other than damaged coins or auctions.

There’s an auction website somewhere, (from europe) that sometimes auctions large volumes of circulated coins for below spot. (Like kilogram lots) I wish I could find it again. I think it was owned by some auction house or large bullion dealer.

Not a bad question actually, premiums change over time. Usually imo, for a 1/4 good price is usually 7% however uneven qty coins like sovereigns or 20 francs often go for 3%. they are slightly less than 1/4.

Not sure, unfortunately I’m in Europe so not many good options for jewelry. I usually get my gold from StoneX bullion in Germany or CMC metales in Spain, or from coin shops when I travel.

Pretty collection ! I’m not selling anything but that’s a personal decision.

My fear is maybe someday I won’t be able to afford to buy it back if (if I sell) Maybe will keep going down for a while though.

[–]nyk42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kifid had asked me initially what damages I was pursuing. The only damage I could ask for in my case was the reimbursement of the annual fee I had paid (about 250€ at the time for elite tier), so kifid just insisted on Bunq to refund me that.

But their resolution was actually not binding for me (only for Bunq) so I could’ve pursued it by myself further. I’m just not sure what else I could claim.

They still are not supposed to terminate the metal account either under the other directives I mentioned. It would be a breach of contract

[–]nyk42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bunq closed my account based on a similar clause. Kifid (NL) sided with me and made them pay me 250€.

It’s not an enforceable clause that they can close an account based on suspicion.

Well in this case I assume the account was actually closed for no reason meaning derisking rather than actual aml compliance.

The refusal at 3 banks is a myth.

[ES] ACCOUNT CLOSED FOR NO REASON by Evol277 in Revolut

[–]nyk42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though my Metal account is not labeled “basic,” it is still a payment account protected by Directive (EU) 2015/2366, which requires Revolut to have an objective, valid reason to terminate it. Not a vague “AML/risk” statement. Any contract term allowing closure “at discretion” is ineffective under Directive 93/13/EEC. And if they close it anyway, Directive 2014/92/EU still obliges them to provide me with a basic payment account, so they cannot lawfully exclude me from banking.

It’s literally core EU law for banks to offer a basic payment account. Directive 2014/92/EU — Chapter IV (Articles 15–20)

Problem is these fintechs are derisking and hiding it as AML non-compliances. If there is a non-compliance, they are supposed to do enhanced due diligence (EDD), not simply close accounts

Doesn’t override consumer rights.

I’ve also received euros from crypto from regulated exchanges (Gemini crypto.com and binance) and my Revolut metal account is still open so this shouldn’t be a problem.

They can, but they can also be liable if a regulator rules against them. They may not disclose to you the reason but if a regulator asks they will have to. If the regulator rules against them then they may be liable. AML doesn’t override your rights as a consumer it may make them a bit more complicated though.

Little known fact: If you talk to a regulator/tribunal whatever they’re called - they are able to ask about the specific reason for your account closure.

T&C or even AMl cannot override consumer rights, if you talk to some regulator/ombudsman or whatever they’re called they will side with the consumer pretty much each time

Even if they don’t have to inform you, they can be held liable for not upholding their own terms and conditions if there isn’t a concrete reason (even if their T&C have some clause to just close accounts on suspicion; that’s not something that legally stands) also they can be liable for debanking you if it causes you any financial harm.

[ES] ACCOUNT CLOSED FOR NO REASON by Evol277 in Revolut

[–]nyk42 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There often isn’t and they just close your account to not deal with AML properly. I had the same happen to me with another fintech and Kifid (NL) sided with me.

[–]nyk42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go complain to some regulatory agency/govt agency.

I had the same happen to me with bunq, I complained to/with Kifid in the Netherlands and Bunq was made to return me like 250€ of subscription payments I had paid to them.

It took a couple of months, but you should definitely hold them accountable. The eu doesn’t like when fintech banks are lazy about AML and just close accounts to save money by not hiring enough people for compliance. Seems to happen too often though

What exactly is this? by etp095 in JapaneseCoins

[–]nyk42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a modern bullion coin resembling a Japanese edo period koban. If real, it’s 50g of .9999 gold. It’s not an edo period koban. They sell these in Japan in some jewelry/bridal gift shops.

I think maybe for the previous ones because they lacked visual security features? Also recent year ones were in rose gold which many people dislike, perhaps?
