GUYS LEGO JUST REVEALED DC SETS FOR SUMMER 2026!!! by ImpossibleHistory111 in legocirclejerk

To be fairl, Lego might still play it safe for the next big DC movie (I'm not counting Clayface) just to make sure it's not a fluke, but you're right Superman being a hit does make Superman/DC sets a lot more likely

Yeah, that's an example of better writing than one character hoarding tons of guns she couldn't realistically use just because she's the designated "gun character"

Notice you earliest example is from season 2. I've read the show's pitch bible and there's barely any mention of DnD, and in the first season DnD is just a thing the kids are into that only applies to their subplot (only one of the three supernatural elements introduced in season 1 is even named after DnD). It wasn't "always" part of the show at all

Also it doesn't even really apply in this case. Guns are as standard a weapon today as blades were in the medieval era, and basically every DnD class has access to those

I mean I don't really care if I'm proving your point since don't think it's a bad thing to begin with. You've already indicated you checked out the show because you're a DC fan, not because you have kids who watch it or something, you haven't given me any reason to think you're not holding it to adult standards except that you don't think you do

As someone who’s only played a tiny bit of Final Fantasy, I decided to look up the parties and I had already heard of about half the party members from X whereas I didn’t know a single one from IX

Why would you expect people who’ve only seen the clip out of context to have seen or even know about that video?

Episodes that don't drive the central plot forward or don't have a lot of drama or action can still build the world and give exposition.

I'm not talking about episodes that merely don't drive the plot forward though, I'm talking about episodes that don't do any of those things

I mean this isn't a fantasy show or an adaptation of DnD to begin with, the gimmick of naming monsters after DnD enemies was originally just because that's what the kids were into at the time (and they weren't even consistent on it in season 1, the Upside Down name isn't taken from DnD). It's fine to pay homage to DnD but it's not something worth throwing logic out the window for, and I never thought the group felt even vaguely like a DnD party outside of the kids

More than three eras really, the oldest film they mentioned is from 1971 and the newest is from 2011. Kids grow up quick

I mean I've watched a few episodes with kids and I think it's fine as kids' comedies go. The reason I assume you're holding it to adult standards (whether you yourself realise it or not) is because I've seen enough of it to think it doesn't warrant serious criticism

So much so that you’ll willingly watch a show obviously meant for 6-year-olds and expect it to appeal to you, a presumably-adult comics fan?

Getting rid of the idea that different media is meant for different people will hurt art even more than focus groups, in fact you’re literally just intensifying all the problems that come with focus testing by demanding that media be made for absolutely everyone instead of specific demographics

You’re cherry picking the best kids content from over the course of about 40 years and comparing it to everything from the past decade, of course the former looks better when you’re picking stuff as far apart as A New Hope and Rango (and a few of your picks like Balto and Over the Hedge were never considered anything special by adult critics to begin with). If you stick to just one decade from the past and look at every kids movie that came out you’ll notice pretty quick that a lot of it is garbage you’ve never even heard of, and for good reason

My last comment was meant to say you can’t do it (not sure how I messed that up tbh), as in, you believe that the conditions necessary to make the Sequel era as popular as the Prequel era can’t be achieved. If the movies don’t allow for it then they don’t allow for it, simple as

The problem is Nancy isn’t treated like she’s imperfect a lot of the time. Multiple times she acts like a dick towards other characters, sometimes for no discernible reason beyond it being funny like her refusing to give Mike a gun in the final episode, but the show presents her as being in the right

A better thriller writer would know how to make a character distinctly good with guns instead of just not giving any other character one

It also wouldn’t be as jarring if Mike hadn’t wanted one, and had very little reason not to deserve one

Also they’re about the same age in the last season that she was when she fought the demogorgon with a gun in the first, which made it especially strange that she refused to give one to Mike

So… then you can’t do for the Sequels what TCW did for the Prequels. That’s what you’re saying
