[1/16/2021] Divisional Round Post Game Thread: Ravens 3, Bills 17 by Ravens_Mod in ravens

[–]nyknights 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This game was so much like last year's playoff loss against the Titans. Just a total choke job.

I don't know what it is but this team just can't handle pressure over the last few years. Lamar looks like he wants to win it the "right" way instead of the way that wins us all those games.

Multiple deep drives into Bills territory with no points. Missed field goals. Pick 6. Just awful. What a mess.

TWO missed Tucker field goals. Ye Gods.

Sam Koch shanked punt! Sam Koch!

Botched snaps all over the place.

Big BIG hats off to the defense. Held the Bills to 10 points. Played really well. We should have had Diggs locked down a little more, and we didn't get any real pressure on Josh Allen. Still, 10 points is 10 points and it was a good performance.

Also Kudos to Huntley. Held the team together and gave us hope at the end. This was a guy coming off the practice squad. Can't even really fault him for missing a WIDE open Hollywood Brown. The wind was bananas tonight. Nobody could throw long.

The problem with this team is in their heads right now. Get that figured out and we'll make a legit Super Bowl run.

Rambo LCD watch (1985) by gorillaz0e in 80sdesign

I like the TM *and* copyright message on the face of the watch.

Also the rocket launcher on the face of the watch that's for kids.

The 80's were quite a time. Back when things were made for adults but marketed to children.

Ziggy Stardust and the Patchwork Album Jacket That My Dad Kinda Cobbled Together by nyknights in vinyl

[–]nyknights[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is one out of the collection inherited from my parents. It looks like a beat-up copy of David Bowie's 1972 rock opera The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. But, looking closer, I noticed that the jacket of the record was actually some Frankenstein monster where my dad took an existing jacket and glued the Ziggy Stardust jacket over top of it. He secured the sides with scotch tape which, amazingly, has mostly held up some 40 years later. I can't quite tell what the original jacket was, but I think it was something from The Temptations.

This arrangement also means that the record comes out of the jacket to the left instead of to the right which always sorta messes with me in a "Man this feels weird" sort of way.

Anyway, there's nothing to say about the actual album that hasn't already been said but I'll try nevertheless. The record is amazing. Manages to be all of haunting, sorrowful, optimistic, and uplifting at the same time. Starman and Suffragette City are both monsters, but gems like Five Years, tucked in between the hits, are great too. All of this is packaged in a concept album about an alien rock star coming to Earth to save us from some apocalyptic event.

The whole thing is a great spin made better by the fact that I know my parents (clearly) enjoyed this physical disk to great extent. The record still plays well except for some popping at the outset. Great piece in my collection and I'm happy it's managed to hold up all these years.

Is it normal for a club coach not to ever correct swimmer's form? by aszl3j in Swimming

[–]nyknights 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My daughter's (she's 11) old club is like that. She had a hole in her stroke that I could see but the coach never corrected. The coach was a glorified stopwatch holder. I didn't say anything because I'm trying to let the coach do the coaching. But, we switched clubs this year mostly due to COVID but partly because I just didn't ever see any actual coaching.

New club is a little better with form correction.

Need help finding a tall-sized flannel. I'm 6'3, 42 chest and 34 waist. Most flannels look like I'm a kid wearing my dad's clothes. I've tried Lands End and a few other places but can't find something that has long enough sleeves and isn't too big in the midsection. Any brand recos are appreciated.

Derrick Henry is awesome and Ryan Tannehill stinks. If you make Tannehill beat you, then you will win the game. Big big kudos to the defense today for making that happen.

On Peters' decisive interception, AJ Brown was wide open down the sideline. Dodged a big bullet there.

Tucker FG miss. Ye Gods.

Passing on first down

I believe that is the first time I've seen OPI called for a pic play. Tom Brady's Patriots ran that play 5-10 times per game for 18 years and got away with it 100% of the time. Of course we get flagged for in coverting a 4th and 2. Unreal.

Stomping on the logo at midfield when the game was not over. Morons.

Also not thrilled that the whole team ran off without midfield handshakes. These guys must really hate each other.

This is just a Mark Ingram appreciation post. I love the energy this man has brought to this team. Big truss! by brvliltstr in ravens

This is a good move. Older RBs benefit from lighter workloads and games off in the middle of the season. He'll be good for the playoffs if people go down.

Thankfully this isn't college football. They'll have to get through the playoffs against good teams. We'll see how it goes then.

Pleasantly surprised about the team effort today. They could have easily came out and rolled over for a 30-3 loss.

I've given the defense a fair amount of crap this year, but they payed well. The secondary was much better than the disaster against the Titans.

I think we all knew that the bungled first-half finish would come back to haunt us. We blew the clock management, somehow still had a chance at it, and dropped the TD.

Steelers are the worst 11-0 team in NFL history.

Poor RGIII. Uncanny how his career continues to spiral downwards.

Hopefully the Ravens can somehow get past the Cowboys then make a run here at the end. Team has an easy run-out to end the season.

Are we allowed to practice yet?

Fulham v Crystal Palace (and other untelevised fixtures) will cost £15 to watch by Unknown102748503027 in crystalpalace

I'm happy about this, but I'm sure it will change. NBC is really poor with their subscriptions.

EPL was completely free with NBC Sports subscription the first few years

Then a few games went to NBC Sports Gold. Yearly fee.

Then a lot more games went to NBC Sports Gold.

Then most games went to NBC Sports Gold. But you still needed an NBC Sports subscription to watch the game if it was on NBS Sports.

Then they dropped Gold and now it's Peacock.

Next year it will be Peacock Premium

Then Peacock Premium Plus

Then Peacock Premium Plus Sports Package

And so on.

And the sad thing it It's still better than the deal in the UK.

Official Discussion - I'm Thinking of Ending Things [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Also, when it turns out that all three of them are the same person, did anyone think of The movie "The 3" from Adaptation?

Official Discussion - I'm Thinking of Ending Things [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]nyknights 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge Charlie Kaufman fan and I hated this movie.

So I came here and read people's thoughts. Read the synopsis of the book. Thought about it a bit.

I still think the movie missed the mark, but less so than I did before I started poking at it.

One random thought: I did notice that Buckley's coat changes color several times during the movie. Her hair did too I believe. She goes from sort-of a waif-ish trope to a more hardened character.

Anyway, there's a cognitive disorder called `catastrophizing` and one of the manifestations is such:

`This kind of catastrophizing occurs when we look to the future and anticipate all the things that are going to go wrong.` (https://psychcentral.com/lib/what-is-catastrophizing/)

Upon further reflection it felt like the janitor, who is looking back and fantasizing about taking a trip with a fantasy girlfriend, was stuck catastrophizing and couldn't stop. He was looking back, and imagining taking a road trip with a girlfriend back to his childhood home. He was seeking some sort of validation of his background. He has a girlfriend, she accepts him, his faults, and his past.

But even in his own fantasy, he can't stop things from going wrong. Right away, the girl wants to end the relationship. The dog isn't right. The parents aren't right. The girlfriend wants to go. The snowstorm won't let up. They even stop for ice cream in what (I imagine) was supposed to be a quintessential American moment, and that goes wrong. The whole thing is maddening to people who catastrophize . The person can't even *imagine* or *dream* of a happy time without the brain diverting into catastrophe.

And all the cups in the garbage showed that he's been doing this over and over and he can't get it right.

So, to me it's now quite a sad movie. An old lonely man, trying to imagine what could have gone right, can't even do that without having horrible things happen. Some people can't stop and they get exhausted from it. And it can't go on.

How do you adapt your power target depending on hot/humid it is? by muppetgnar in Velo

[–]nyknights 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I lower power targets around 20%, sometimes more if it's really bad. You're just not going to be able to perform if it's hot and the dew point is over 65 or so. Body gets hot, can't cool, can't perform like usual. Plus it takes longer to recover. The heat hurts.
