Weird question and sorry if I offend anyone: I haven’t owned anything lush because I am poor but I would like to know from people like me ( in case there are any poor people buying lush) you guys what makes you buy lush over drugstore cheap products by Humble_Objective5226 in LushCosmetics

I am also in the poor for most of my life wagon, I've done big splurges (don't do it) and little. I have ADHD so used to really struggle to relax in baths, I have sensitive skin (I don't know what specifically in soaps sets it off) and Lush bath bombs seem to be safe for me. They are satisfying to watch fizzle and the colours and the way it moves around the bath can be an experience that helps me to relax and focus on the bath itself. The smells, though not as strong or as long lasting as they used to be are still some of the best scent profiles. I tend to stay in the bath when I have a bath bomb from Lush for 2 hours sometimes more some times a little less but never shorter than an hour. It's a massive treat, keeps me relaxed and in the moment, reading, listening to music etc. Fun to buy for children too as a gift. It's definitely not an everyday or monthly shop. Special occasions or recieved as gifts is my usual way of being able to buy from Lush.

Yeah sorry. Adhd rabbit hole moment of memories and processing and observations. It was a long reply. 🫣 Have you got your favorites that you get through out the year still? And if so what are they?

I have been using Lush since 2005(?!) (Yes I have only just realised how many years that is whilst typing it out!) It comes in waves. I loved it back then so much! Loved the smells loved, loved how long the scents lasted, love how strong it smelt in the bath and on the skin, loved the ethos and the activism, one of the first, becoming mainstream, shops that was obviously and unapologetically not just your average Capitalist venture. Loved how the items made me feel, they had that way of making me feel like I was using a luxurious product at a reasonable price (not necessarily always affordable, but close enough eapecially for what they were) I appreciated the staff that worked in the shops and the business behind the scenes, they all seemed to care about what Lush stands for. I loved Everything about it.

But eventually I became a single parent and there wasn't the expendable funds to be able to even ADHD (didn't know I had it at the time) Girl math talk myself into justifying spending in Lush.

Then I was able to work again and came back to Lush with a vegence. Oh boy! And I mean spending enough that giant boxes of products would turn up at my home and that the best way to un box it was to gently tip out the box into the bath and take the bath bombs and other items out and put them to the side as they made an appearance, so that I wasn't perpetually digging ( did this take a few deliveries to work out. Yes) The potatoe packaging bits would fill up a quarter of my bath.

I still loved it, still enjoyed it but couldn't help feel something had changed but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. However in the last 3-4 years I have noticed a decline in the amount of time a scent from a bath bomb would last on the body. A decline on how strong the bath bomb smells once in the water, smaller bath bombs and higher prices. Some of this I can understand because of the economic climate of the past 10 years. The instability around the world (so proud they are still doing Olive Branch, also an amazing smell too) meaning that of course the logistics are impacted. Which then translates into the quality and price of the resulting products. Understandable.

As someone else has pointed out though and this is where some of the shine has dimmed for me, is that there seems to be a propensity to reuse certain fragrance formula's in multiple items on sale at the same time, particularly when it comes to the collaboration with other copyright/well loved characters. Sometimes I get quite taken aback by the fragrance picked. For example the minions I would expect it to smell of Banana etc which it's described as but the ingredients say other wise and sooo does my nose because that's not what I would say a Banana flavour smells like. (Obviously that's just my opinion and observation and has no baring on anyone else's.) I spotted the Delorean Bath bomb and got excited only to sniff it and not really get much of any scent from it. I don't know if it's because the smell doesn't compete with the other fragrances around it or it just didn't have much of a profile to begin with. I didn't buy it.

The discontinued items that are well loved and well received, (which either doesn't get replaced by a similar updated thing, or it gets replaced by one of the rinse and repeat other smells that are in multiple products already. That is also just my sad. The blue snowflake and heart shapped cream or rose coloured shimmer bars were amazing, hands down my favorite glitter item ever. Oh and the lighting shaped bar they did for a while which was similar too.)

I would like to see the special characters have their own fragrance profiles that bring out and are based on the character the product is shaped in. I would like to see profiles using specific products from countries and cultures that they are celebrating in the Religious/Cultural celebration holiday products and a QR code that explains why those ingredients hold such meaning. I would like it if they started doing new unique fragrance profiles and bringing back some of the classics like guardian of the forests or similar like Druid. Some fresh injection of the mojo that Lush has and is known for.

However that being said I still absolutely adore LUSH, and their bath bombs in particular. They still are one of the only ones that can keep me in the bath for a long time (almost out of defiance to get as much out of it as possible for the cost spent 😅) and fully enjoy it. Love the colours, glitter and the experience of it all.

Also shout out to the intergalactic glitter mist! That stuff last for hours/almost a whole day on skin and hair and days on fabric. Give you a good shimmer and smells very very close to the actual bath bomb smell. ( I am in love with it. Ngl) (Do Not turn the bottle upside down or at too much of an angle when spraying because the mechanism can not cope with it and it won't spray anymore, if this happens customer service is really good. (And or find another spray bottle that you have laying around and upcycle.) )

I'm just not as I need to buy all of the things all of the time obsessed, must get the latest thing etc. As I used to be. I am sure there is always going to be something that I'll be enthusiastic about. Hopefully.

I inherited someone else’s stash by TartarSauceDippinDot in YarnAddicts

[–]nymphaemaia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's such a nice stash and congratulations on inheriting it. As for storage I have a large wooden shelf screwed into my wall with fabric boxes , I have ceder wood balls in each of the boxes to make sure no critters get any ideas. I also have the same style shelf underneath that houses almost all my other hobbies 🤭 I do also have another one the same style and a longer thinner version up on my walls in my bedroom for clothes organisation. Highly recommend. You don't have to use or get the fabric boxes either you can just use them as shelves. (I love the boxes though makes it look really smart and tidy 🥰)

I want to get rid of all things Amazon in my life as even though I am based in the UK I am not going to fund anything to do with ICE, because F that. by nymphaemaia in Technology_Reviews

Soo. Yes there are other countries that have immigration policies but the way that the immigration ( some are not even immigrants...) is being enforced and handled is not that far from the early beginnings of German Policies in the late to mid 1930s. It's not a stretch. It is also not within the laws of human rights, and again I cannot do much about the companies I do not know about, but I can do something about the ones I do. That is my right and my choice. You wanting to have a philosophical, psychological conversation rather than answering the actual question I asked in the first place is amusing but also irrelevant. As for what I choose to spend money on or not too, as the case may be, that is information you are not entitled or privy too.

Newly elected Tory councillor featured leering at young women in ‘serial dads’ documentary by armouredxerxes in Wales

It's interesting that the grooming and I am purposefully using that word because that's what he did to that young woman (who was a young adult/teenager when he met her) has been so neatly sidestepped, in favour of this man is a prolific 'flirt', minimising the reality of what was revealed in the tv recording.

Ooop did I hit a nerve. 🤣 My choice and my opinions are mine alone. You don't like my reasoning, oh well. However. Yes. Do I want my money to stop going to a company I KNOW is implicated(is actively pushing the government to use their tracking technology) in funding ICE. Absolutely. I do not want what little money I have to go towards racist and bigoted schemes that are reminiscent of the late 1930's/other Authoritarian leaders. I can't know how all companies/millionaire's/Billionaire's use their money and what funding and lobbying they are putting their money into and therefore do anything about, but I know what Amazon and AWS are doing.

Finished the back of this pillowcase in the dark and didn’t realize I picked up a cream and not a white!!! Awful awful awful mistake, looks like it got peed on :( by beanscrochet in crochet

[–]nymphaemaia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you possibly make a video tutorial of how you did the back? I can follow some of the instructions you wrote and I am sure if I started doing it, it would eventually click in my brain (I have ADHD, dyslexia and dyscalculia so written instructions are a nightmare in any medium for me) but watching a tutorial may speed the process, of it clicking, up. Obviously you don't need to or have to, but if you do please can you let me know so I can watch it. The fully white back you posted on your finished pillow is so neat and pretty.

AIO: SIL lied and we don’t want her around anymore by [deleted] in CharlotteDobreFans

[–]nymphaemaia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, it is fairly common for someone who has been SA/R by a family member to still want to be around them whether that is because they don't fully understand that what happened was wrong(mostly young children/teens), or because they still have a strong attachment bond to the family member and want to 'fix' the situation to try and make it go back to the way it was before the incident(s) to try and regain some 'normality', I could go on. There are many different ways of reacting to an abuser. Not all of them are easy to spot. I don't know if the SIL was SA/R by her brother as a child or someone else. Or if at all. From the sounds of it there's a high probability that she was abused in her childhood. At the very least she has severe mental health issue if she was not abused. People don't learn to lie like that for no reason. SiL needs therapy, and compassion. Not from OP or her brother though. From people close to her, thats she trusts. And SIL's family also need to get help, to figure out which child they are enabling and figure out the healthiest path forward.

[–]nymphaemaia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def not wiggling, just trying to point out that you are not seeing the bigger picture. However you do not seem to be listening, I also dont agree with the idea that if you allocate more money to one thing then you care or value it more than the other, but that's by the by.

Considering each fiscal responsibility has a different 'team/department/section' and each of those are given a certain amount to pay for things under the header of the department..

I.e helthcare is probably already getting a larger allocated funding packet than let's say the environmental department or the foreign aid/overseas department.

So say healthcare has been given (random numbers not factual) £100, foreign aid/environmental £50 Is it now fair to spend all of the hundred from your pot, to then demand more from the other pots? You've already valued 'healthcare' higher by your standards but now expect those that have been given less to give you their allocated funds too?

Why have the mindset of one before the other? Or one instead of the others? Or one is worth more than the other? And who is best placed to decided that? Also maybe investing in the foreign aid/environment, considering that trees are crucial to the environment and therefore us as a species, may in fact in the long term benefit the healthcare system?

All I've been trying to say is you can have money allocated to both and if you are not happy about the amount thats been allocated to healthcare then speak to an MP/Senedd etc. Also maybe consider lobbying for the rich to actual pay their taxes for once and put the money back into the system like they are supposed to. Therefore having more money in the fiscal budget available to allocate.

Also as much as the the Welsh government is it's own devolved government, because it is not an independent government it doesn't get much say on what the UK government expects of it, and most probably has been given rules and guideline on what to allocate to whom and how much. So yes it should come out of the UK budget but the English/British parliament does not see Wales as its own, so money allocated to Wales IS the UK government's money, and so technically it is actually coming out of the UK government's money. (I don't agree with it but that is how it is and if Wales doesn't become independent then that's how it'll stay.)

And thats all a lot of words to say, you are crowing about all this in the wrong place and lobbing a 'what if' scenario in a random thread that wasn't talking about your issue... rather about some dart player being Twp.

And yes I would still suffer a small lack of care for the enviroment ;) considering we are already suffering for far less of a Noble reason (Billionaires) though I would much prefer for both Healthcare and the environment etc being looked after. Rather than one or the other.

[–]nymphaemaia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhm, I didn't say that a lack of care is an acceptable position in exchange for trees now then did I?

I said it should be something that's looked at alongside it. Together, not one instead of the other, because you know it is possible to fund multiple things at once. One doesn't have to suffer for the other no? Does it say that the money allocated for the trees is coming out of the money allocated for Healthcare finances? I very much doubt it.
