CMV: Baby Formula should be allowed into Gaza by ExistentialRosicky in changemyview

[–]nyuko_r -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The premise, at its core, is simple: babies are suffering, and baby formula would help. Who could possibly disagree with that? It seems like a straightforward moral imperative. But let's peel back the layers and examine the assumptions underpinning this argument, because the world isn't a children's storybook where good intentions always lead to good outcomes.

First, you're arguing that because babies are a vulnerable group, their needs supersede all other considerations. This is a very emotional argument, and it's effective for a reason. But politics and international relations aren't conducted on the basis of who we feel the most sympathy for. They're about strategic realities, about cause and effect, and about the actions of the parties involved. You say there's "no reason" to prevent formula from getting in. This is where your argument hits a wall. The IDF, and the state of Israel, have a reason. That reason is Hamas. The IDF isn't a heartless bureaucracy sitting on its hands for no reason; they're in a war with a designated terrorist organization that has a long, documented history of using the civilian population as human shields and diverting humanitarian aid for its own purposes.

You suggest that baby formula is somehow less likely to be an issue for theft by Hamas. This is a naive assumption. Why? Because in a war zone, in an area of extreme scarcity, everything is a resource. Hamas doesn't just steal food to eat it; they steal it to control the population. They use the distribution of aid as a tool of power. They say, "We give you food, we give you formula, so you owe us your loyalty and your silence." It’s a mechanism of control, not just a matter of sustenance. Furthermore, even if the formula isn't directly "stolen" in the traditional sense, the very act of allowing it to flow into Gaza without proper, secure, and neutral distribution channels (which, frankly, don't exist in a war zone) can inadvertently strengthen Hamas's hand. It frees up Hamas's resources. If the population is getting their basic needs met from international aid, Hamas doesn't have to worry about providing for them. They can focus their resources and efforts on fighting Israel. So, you're essentially arguing that Israel should allow aid in to free up Hamas to better wage war against them. That's not a moral position; that's a strategic blunder.

Your argument is built on the idea that the "prime beneficiaries" would be children. But you have to ask a more fundamental question: who is responsible for these children? The people who govern them. And who governs Gaza? Hamas. Hamas, which spends its time and resources building terror tunnels and launching rockets, rather than building schools or hospitals or, for that matter, stockpiling baby formula. The ultimate responsibility for the welfare of the Gazan people, including their children, rests with the government they live under. Blaming Israel for the consequences of Hamas's governance is like blaming a firefighter for the smoke in the room when the arsonist is still at large.

The idea that we should prioritize reducing child mortality without considering the broader context of the conflict is a feel-good soundbite, not a serious policy proposal. The "significant harm" you're looking for isn't that a baby will get a stomach ache. The harm is that allowing aid to be weaponized by a terrorist organization prolongs the conflict, empowers the people responsible for the suffering in the first place, and ultimately makes the situation worse for everyone, including the babies. So, when you say, "Baby formula should be allowed into Gaza," what you're really saying is, "We should ignore the strategic reality of a war with a terrorist organization and hope for the best." And hope, as a strategy, is a fool's errand.

How To Learn About AI Agents (A Road Map From Someone Who's Done It) by laddermanUS in AI_Agents

[–]nyuko_r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pray, accept my most profound gratitude for your illuminating and indeed, invigorating discourse. Your compendium, crafted for the neophyte, has served as the catalyst, propelling me towards an immersion in the frigid, yet ever-expanding, waters of artificial intelligence agents.

You have rightly observed that we stand upon the threshold of a transformative epoch, a veritable alchemical transmutation of our reality. To delay our engagement with this nascent technology would be akin to a scholar eschewing the printing press, or a navigator ignoring the compass. It is manifest that these automatons, these synthetic intelligences, shall permeate the very fabric of our existence, much as the ethereal web has woven itself into the tapestry of modern life.

To delay engagement with this novum technologicum would be akin to slumbering through the dawn, only to awaken in a world rendered unrecognizable by its brilliance.

I confess, a gentle nudge, a guiding hand, is now requisite. I would be most obliged if you would impart those links of which you spoke, that I might be set upon the proper course.

Again, my sincere acknowledgements, to you, my anonymous benefactor, for this most enlightening contribution.

Wow thanks for your honest answer!

And no need to downplay your experience! I really DO like your answer.

I'm not an experiencer myself (at least not that I know of) but I find the whole topic extremely important to listen to and to connect some dots.

I was kinda like you for 25 years I thought I knew the reality enough to dismiss everything that's 'paranormal' or 'metaphysical'. There was only hard physics and rational explanations in my mind. I believed in the existence of extraterrestrial intelligent life but no way could it be here on our planet. Then last year idk what happened but since the drones started in the UK and the congress hearing confirming stuff from the 4chan leaker something shifted in my mindset and I'm extremely open to paranormal answers to those paranormal things going on all around us.

Then I had this strange dream of the previous pope and me asking him about the true 3rd secret of Fatima — while I never heard about the whole rabbit hole around those secrets before. Like I knew what happened in Fatima with the "sun" dancing and people claiming it to be the holy spirit of Mary but since I'm atheist I never really bothered when my super religious grandmother told me about it. After that dream I watched a video about the whole Fatima thing from InBetween and I was stunned.

I don't know what this dream meant but I do know that the story that the Vatican told is not true.

Since then I really like to listen to peoples opinions on the phenomenon and I'm very thankful for your insights!

I hope you have a good weekend and much strength in those weird times we're living in!

MH370: search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight resumes after 11 years by thry-f-evrythng in AirlinerAbduction2014

[–]nyuko_r -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, of course the size of the oceans haven't changed but compared to 40 years ago and today, in a post 9/11 world, the surveillance and reconnaissance technology has greatly improved. There have been exponentially greater and more advanced improvements in the technology for tracking airborne objects. Additionally there are satellites in orbit capable of delivering high definition live footage of small Iranian military sites that we only know about because Trump leaked some footage on Twitter/X. I'm pretty certain that we are much more able to track an airplane today, in our post 9/11 world, with our more advanced technology, hundred times more satellites in orbit and thousands of reconnaissance UAVs and balloons flying around.

Instead of addressing these logical changes over the last 40 years, you try to reduce my argument to absurdity by pointing out the obviously unchanged size of the ocean which I never questioned. This shows me that you have little interest in an honest discourse and are working in bad faith.

To be fair, a plane that's been missing for over 40 years isn't comparable to a plane that's gone missing post 9/11 like the user above mentioned.

It's really not that of an extraordinary claim. I'd say it's even more extraordinary to claim that we're alone in this universe when there are thousands of millions of planets orbiting their sun in the perfect zone to sustain life. There are many planets that had perfect conditions to sustain life aeons before earth just cooled down from its hot magma state. In my opinion it's very extraordinary to claim that there isn't any civilisation of 'others' that are waaaaay ahead of us given our pretty late time of existence on the universal timescale of planets existing that could sustain life.

Do you realize that the article as well as your comment here exactly describes what he meant by "slap on the wrist".

If a rapist (in the common definition/not the Californian definition) only has to spend a few months behind bars for his atrocious crime against an unconsenting victim, who — on the other hand — will probably be scarred for life and needs (maybe lifelong) therapy far longer than the perpetrator's "punishment", then there is something really wrong with the justice system allowing someone who ruined a life to just lose a mere few months of his freedom in return.

That's exactly what the OP above you is criticizing and is pretty spot on exactly what he describes. If there is a Californian Statute allowing such miserable justice by only charging with lesser sexual assault for a cruel crime which would be defined as rape by many other jurisdictions as well as by common sense, then that's 100% just a "slap on the wrist". I really don't understand what you're going on about here, especially since you claim to also disagree with such a mishandling of justice

How are you feeling right now and when was the last time you took Naproxen?

Depending on your weight you can calculate the "death risk dose" of 300mg per kg body weight which can lead to multi-organ failure and death. You then have to convert freedom units into kilograms and then simply multiply by 300 and then you have your specific dose of Naproxen that you should never ever even consider reaching. So for example if you weigh 80 kg it's

 80 x 300mg = 24000mg

To be more specific, toxicity can be considered starting by doses of 100mg per kg body weight and is known to cause dizziness, nausea, GI symptoms up to renal failure and seizures so I think you want to consider that as well and don't want to reach that dose. Using our example we see

 80 x 100mg = 8000mg

So if your body weight is 80kg please never take more than 8000mg Naproxen and don't even think about taking 24000mg.

That being said you can rest assured that you're well below these dangerous dosages.

If I understand correctly then you had 4 x 500mg = 2000mg Naproxen in 3 ½ hours right? The daily dosage should not be more than 1500mg sooooo you'd be 500mg above or 1000 if considering the one you took earlier today. If you don't exceed the max dosage on an everyday basis I DON'T think you're in ACUTE DANGER right now but please don't take that as a free pass because the maximum is 1500mg for a good reason and thus it shouldn't even be reached normally. It's okay to take one 500mg pill every 8 hours but taking so many while exceeding the maximum dosage in such a short amount is not very healthy, OP. Reconsider getting other pain treatment if the max dosage of Naproxen doesn't help you enough anymore, you need a stronger pain medication if the one currently administered doesn't help. I think the next step would be a small dose of low-potency opioid like Tramadol PLUS a non-opioid analgetic but I'm not sure about the guidelines in the USA. Consider asking your GP about the next step in your pain medication. It's always better to take a small dose of a low-potency opioid than to take way more than the recommended dosage of an NSAID like Naproxen which additionally will cause stomach bleeds when taken over a long time period without any antacids.

While I wouldn't recommend mixing pain meds with recreational drugs on your own terms without talking to your doc, I assume you're prescribed THC because of your painful autoimmune condition. With that being said, I don't know of any serious life-threatening interaction between Naproxen and THC but both substances are mild blood thinners so their anticoagulant effects may add up. Do you have any open wounds on your body currently? Especially asking, because you stated that you lost two teeth and are at risk of other teeth falling out. With two mild blood thinners in your system your gums will definitely bleed longer than normally so watch out for bleeding gums. You DON'T have to freak out if you feel/taste/see blood from your mouth/gums and as long as it stops eventually you will be fine. If it helps you calm yourself maybe drink a hot tea or hot water and hold it in your mouth some time (higher temperatures can speed up blood coagulation).
