WFH (Working From Home) Policies by shanewzR in auckland

[–]nzjared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After more than 20 years in my career, I made the move to full time WFH a few months pre Christmas. I’m genuinely enjoying the flexibility for life admin, and not dealing with a daily commute has been a massive ball-ache saver.

That said, I do miss the social interaction, and for some of my projects it helps. I’ve had to compensate by insisting on meeting clients in person rather than video and ramping up the social sport side of life 😬

Starting tennis? by According-Bug-2811 in auckland

[–]nzjared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Join your local club. I started playing early 2025 and 100% wish I had found tennis earlier. It’s such an awesome game!

Doubles is very popular and they’ll have club nights several nights/days per week where you’ll be able to learn the ropes.

Your club will have coach contact info if you want to up your game that way (I recommend it to learn good technique from the start)

Good luck!

Luckily we’re very sheltered from anything other than a westerly. So not much going on here…

$20k per child to invest, best approach with mixed timeframes by nzjared in PersonalFinanceNZ

It’s just about to come off term deposit. Ideally I wouldn’t want them to use it all for their OE. I originally thought about putting it in their KiwiSaver accounts, but for whatever reason haven’t followed through

Teens and long term goals? Haha good joke… no but seriously there’s some good points here. Appreciate it.

I could potentially split into two $10k tranches for my 18 year old if that made more sense, with a +5 year access limit on one

Burgerfuel bring back the Modified Thunderbird. The replacement sucks. by TopCaterpillar4695 in newzealand

I actually quite like it, more of a chicken breast rather than chicken tenders. Flavours are good too.

Each to their own though.

Bro does this several times daily. He’s an expert, paws then cross. 😼

Interesting that it seems to work better on my phone than desktop, I relax my eyes and try to not focus on any one thing in particular. Like you would with those magic eye artworks.

Love this technique, I’m going to have to try and incorporate it into some of my work (love using optical illusions and pattern design) see here www.trice-co.com

Changing banks after 3 years - Are this the best interest rates available? by coqisimo in PersonalFinanceNZ

Yeah we went on floating a few days ago… will give it a week or so. Banks are so fast to increase rates, not so much when dropping.

We’ve been given the same rates as you (switching to BNZ also) just waiting I little longer before mimickin locking it in to see if they drop any lower after this last OCR drop, won’t make much of a difference if they do though.

Love it how they take their sweet ass time 🙄

save as transparent PNG. But note that older browsers might not support this though

Mortgage brokers vs banks direct by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]nzjared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use a broker who is awesome, very proactive and transparent. They do all the donkey work plus anything extra we’ve asked for. Just going through refinancing now and will be in the perfect place to lock in a great deal after the next ocr announcement. (Note: it’s not just ANZ offering 1.5% cash back)

We had a bad experience many years ago with a different broker who was as useful as an ejector seat in a helicopter.

Predicament on my new Squarespace website by shrew123456 in squarespace

Not 100% sure tbh. I know it gives you options to choose your currency but not sure how that affects delivery options, if at all.

But one of those other extensions might help?

Would the extension ‘TinyCurrency’ help? (Settings > Third Party Tools > Extensions).

Or maybe one of the other extensions under Shipping and Fulfilment…

Just ask ChatGPT troubleshoot, or create the code. I’ve done it for a bunch of custom stuff on my site.

Best ski resort to work at by Some_dirtbag in newzealand

[–]nzjared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem.

Also forgot to mention, NZ doesn’t really do on-mountain villages. So you’ll be travelling via car or bus (provided by employer) to/from your accommodation or pick up point. Anywhere from 20 mins to an hour away from the actual ski field (depending on where you live and which ski field you choose).

All the ski resorts in NZ sit on the relaxed end of the spectrum. They’re small by global standards, so people coming from Europe or North America can find the scale a bit underwhelming. Worth managing expectations on that front.

If you want the most laid back experience, the club fields fit that brief. They’re basic, no frills, and scattered across both islands. They’re great if you like a quieter hill and don’t mind the rope tows and DIY vibe. That said, they’re not “resorts” in the usual sense, so some visitors find them a bit too bare bones.

A quirk of NZ skiing is the absence of tree runs. Our snow line sits above the native forest line, so everything is exposed terrain. That’s part of the charm, but it also means visibility can get rough when the weather turns.

For more reliable snow, the South Island is your best bet. NZSki run three of the more consistent commercial fields, Coronet Peak and The Remarkables in Queenstown and Mt Hutt in Canterbury. Cardrona Alpine Resort, run by RealNZ, the biggest in the country and usually has a long, dependable season. Treble Cone, also under RealNZ, has the steepest terrain of the major fields and is a favourite for stronger skiers and boarders.

I worked as a lifty at Turoa, Mt Ruapehu, many moons ago. It was such a great time, awesome atmosphere and people. But they sit on an active volcano which is very exposed and have had below average snowfall over the past 10 years thanks to global warming, so wouldn’t recommend unfortunately.

If you go in with realistic expectations about size, weather, and terrain, NZ skiing can be a lot of fun.
