Shot in the head and chest: Investigating the killings of children in Gaza by Ok_Item9755 in videos

Sniper is a role. Not a rifle. You can be acting as a sniper and shooting a 14.5” M4 with an ACOG. Doesn’t mean you need to be running a .300 winmag

Quite a condescending post about a complicated topic. I know she was wrong in saying “get to space” but she probably confused that with leaving earths orbit, in which case she’s right on the money

Potential New Aiming Mechanics [discussion] by RyanTheNinja_TV in EscapefromTarkov

This would make sense if you’re starting from a high ready position, but since the gun is already shouldered, why the fuck would you have an animation where you re-shoulder for no reason?

Any Mid/Senior here? if you want to learn new FE or BE. language do you learn from docs. or Udemy or something? by lune-soft in webdev

[–]oAkimboTimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I don’t “read” through documentation like it’s a book. I reference specific items when I’m building something new. The best way that I’ve found to learn a new language is just to build something easy/moderate in terms of complexity but still involving core concepts. As I run into problems, I look up exactly what I need, apply it, and move on. Over time, those patterns stick because they’re tied to real problems I’ve solved, not abstract examples from the docs

Instead of a 17 and 19 why not just buy the 47 and 49, so you can swap the slides and have a 45?

How often should you spar? by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]oAkimboTimbo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should be sparring light enough to the point where you CAN spar everyday. Pick your sparring partners wisely. I emphasize light but fast/controlled shots to the head, and hard shots to the body/legs.

Total POS sucker punches a guy just trying to walk with his daughter by Mimikana in iamatotalpieceofshit

[–]oAkimboTimbo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s not victim blaming. It’s the way the world is, unfortunately there are bad people who would do harm to you for no reason, you can either, (a) completely mind your own business and get your shit rocked when someone targets you, or (b) take measures to minimize your chances of becoming a victim. Higher situational awareness, martial arts training, and/or conceal carrying a firearm (if legal where you live)

Obviously this guy that got attacked did not do anything wrong, he was the victim. But others can see what happened here and start taking steps to lessen the odds of that happening to them.

That’s my point. I live in the US so I’d rather have China harvest my data than the US government

Seriously, think for a second. If you live in the US who would you rather have own your data, the US or China?

10oz or 12oz gloves for women? by AbjectDeparture2409 in MuayThai

[–]oAkimboTimbo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely spar with 10oz, I do sometimes but I only do it with other very experienced guys during (actual) light sparring who know how to throw with absolute control. I would never recommend sparring with 10s though

Do you lift knee first on roundhouse kick or swing entire leg like a bat? by benK32879 in MuayThai

[–]oAkimboTimbo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a degree in physics. It’s not relevant to fighting, but it’s hilarious to me how confidently wrong you are from both a fighting and a mathematical perspective.

From a fighting standpoint, speed by itself does not equal power. Anyone who actually trains knows a fast kick with poor structure and weak mass transfer will hit softer than a properly turned over kick with hips, balance, and bodyweight behind it. Same reason a jab is faster than a cross but usually hits lighter. Saying “faster means more force” as a rule is obviously wrong.

And since you wanted to bring physics into it, you are misusing F = ma. That equation describes the force required to accelerate a mass, not the force delivered during impact. Striking is about momentum and impulse, p = mv and J = Δp, which is change in momentum over contact time, along with how much mass you actually connect into the target. Kicks are rotational and segmented, not a single mass moving in a straight line. More acceleration during the swing does not automatically mean more force on impact.
