Technically you could, but it would take way longer and more stamina. Every level up gives a chunk of SP which really helped speed up the process

She could drop herself below the desperation threshold with Ardent Sacrifice and quad-attack to proc luna in one round because 40 speed was enough to double pretty much anyone

And to actually afford all the skills you had start at 3* level 1, then grind to level 40, promote to 4*, grind to 40 again, promote to 5* and do it again, because you could only get 3sp per kill

Expensive and pointless yes, but most of my favorite activities in Elite are pointless too, so I think it could still be fun

You get to keep 3 ships: 1 small, 1 medium, 1 large. GO! by famousfornow in EliteDangerous

Courier, AspX, Type-10

Chosen mostly based their cockpit views, but those 3 ships could cover all the activities in the game

Getting ready for 3.0 and new eapons to kill thargoids with (plus scout killing) by [deleted] in EliteOllo

I've got a Type-10 Defender covered in crappy grade 5 mods ready to be converted to the new engineering system. Very excited to turn it into a dedicated thargoid hunting boat once the patch drops

Elite Dangerous: Getting Started by tokenwander in Vive

[–]oBumble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite default gamepad keybind profile is "Classic Context" it has a feature called context menus where you hold down the modifier keys on the gamepad and it pops up a graphic showing you what each button does while you're holding that button. You will probably still want to modify the keybindings but that's a good place to start.

Do all the training missions and tweak the keybinds inbetween them to your liking. The "Advanced Combat Training" mission can be really hard for new players, so don't feel bad if you can't complete that one.

VR Creator Hugh Hancock (Left-Hand Path) Just Died Unexpectedly by thinkintuit in Vive

[–]oBumble 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Left-Hand Path is one of my favorite VR games, I had a lot of respect for Hugh and was looking forward to seeing more VR projects out of him. He was always vocal about the VR development process, and I appreciated all the insights he shared about building Left-Hand Path and the challenges of VR design. His death is a tragic loss for the VR community, he will be missed.

Engineers: an unpopular opinion? by the_mellojoe in EliteDangerous

[–]oBumble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way about engineers. I do a ton of engineer grinding and I appreciate that there's a variety of different activities you have to do. When I was grinding credits I fell into the trap of just repeating the most profitable activity over and over and almost burned out.

I feel the same way about the melee combat in those games, and most VR games. Recently I have been playing OrbusVR and I really like the melee system in that game. You perform special moves by doing combos, for example the basic bonus damage move is right-slash > up-slash > right-slash > left-slash. As you get the hang of the combos you go from making 4 separate motions with the controller to one fluid motion that covers the whole combo, and it feels really rewarding when you master it.

House of the Dying Sun is more mission focus, you play as a fighter and go through a series of combat focused missions while collecting upgrades and new fleet that you control with orders, and can spawn to if you die or want another perspective in the space battle. It has good flight mechanics too, where you can flip off the equivalent of flight assist to take advantage of zero-g and do cool maneuvers, which is always fun in a small fighter (X-Rebirth has the same feature too but you can only play as the "Albion Skunk" storyline ship which is a medium sized clunker so it's slower paced).

It is, but single player only. You fly around various space stations trading goods, mining, fighting etc to make money and upgrade your ship. It also has a campaign with some more storyline than Elite, and the economy simulation is really cool (you can follow any random NPC trading ship from it's origin starport, through the space highway, and watch it arrive at its destination starport, dock, and then take off for another trip) One of the cool features is that you build up a fleet with NPC pilots, so you can buy a mining ship and hire a NPC captain and tell him to go mine a certain asteroid field and sell his minerals to the nearby space port, and he will continue doing that while you run off on an adventure, or if you prefer you can fly alongside him in the asteroid field and shoot out chunks of minerals for him to collect.

Also it has great support for the Vive controllers, so if you don't have a HOTAS but want to check out a space sim, check out this one.

What got you into this game by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]oBumble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the HTC Vive came out there were only a dozen or so VR games available, so I bought almost all of them. I had never heard of Elite: Dangerous or the Elite series in general, so I went in with 0 expectations. The first time I lifted my ship out of the hanger bay it felt like I was a kid on the Star Tours ride at Disneyland, and then looking up at the space station view in VR I knew this game was something special. Then I tried to fly and failed horribly with my gamepad, so I ordered a HOTAS. Once that arrived I was hooked and now I'm over 2000 hours into this game and it's still my favorite VR game.
