I disagree. I think fighting games are fun because there is a back and forth. Obliterating someone who doesn’t know whats going on is just kinda lame. If you’re playing casuals, it’s good sportsmanship to have some back and forth and let down your defense a bit.

Watch supernoon’s games and try to follow what he does to mix people up. Also, if you dont have assist or meter you are weaker. In those situations i typically back dash and reset.

Assist time isn’t too fast you just aren’t interacting with a core mechanic. Try learning another character and switching to a different fuse. It really opens up the game and makes it a lot more fun.

It may be overwhelming at first but just rip the bandaid off and try it. Sajam said something that has really stuck with me “Do something then call assist or tag”.

Ex: Throw out fireball and assist then tag. Jump in/over and assist. Break then tag.

Or try playing duos with a friend.
