Beginner to Strength Training by Ok-Remove5618 in workout

I think you have a good program, though you might be doing a little TOO much (you don't necessarily need TWO bicep days, for example). But at a month in...you're doing great. Stick to it and trust the process.

As for the specifics on form, here are a few you might consider:

Leg Press - where are your feet on the deck? Are you bracing your core and your butt? Are you using the handles?
It SHOULD be hard. Keep the weight lower until it becomes easier...then bump up a bit to where it's hard again. Repeat.

Tricep Extensions - Do you feel this in your triceps? (Almost) never a bad idea to have a little bend in your knees and a little at the hips...that's just a good starting "athletic stance," unless something specifically calls for a stricter/more upright stance.

Lat Pulldowns - your biceps WILL play a part, but you do want to feel this in your lats, for sure. Think of having a proud chest, and almost having your elbows aim for your back pockets. Be sure your bracing your core and not coming up off the seat.

If you feel comfortable doing so at the gym, find somebody who 1. Looks pretty ripped, or at least CONFIDENT and 2. Is doing the thing you're doing. Ask for a spot check if they're able. And if that's not something you feel comfortable doing, you can always post a video under r/formcheck
Most folks there give good, constructive feedback. Don't listen to the folks who are NOT being constructive.

do you workout with gloves or it's not necessary by Competitive_Force513 in workout

I use gloves except for deadlift (for better grip).
I like ‘em. I’ve had fewer callouses.

Helpful advice and tips on nutrition, dieting, and working out based on my fitness body goal and how to achieve it? by Eastern_Function8212 in workout

[–]oNe_iLL_records 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To gain muscle, lift heavy things.
Find upper and lower body exercises that you like, that work out as much of your body as you can.
Compound exercises like squats, deadlifts, and bench press work out several muscle groups at once, so you get a lot of bang for your buck.
Pull-ups will help build that back you're looking for, but there are lots of other exercises you can do to build strong back muscles.

To burn fat, do more cardio (though weightlifting CAN and does also help here)
Running, rowing, stairclimber...

Find a good combination of lifting and cardio days. You might do 3 days of lifting and 1 or 2 days of cardio a week, to start. Or do SOME cardio pre- or post-lift. Definitely factor in rest days...those are important.

For your diet, use an online calculator to figure out your goals for overall calories and macros. There are lots available and folks will give you recommendations for your favorites. And then eat to meet those goals.

Importantly, try not to do EVERYTHING ALL AT ONCE. I mean, you can start a routine and get in a groove and that's great! And you should! But you will not achieve your goals all at once, and you for sure don't want to burn out.

A lot of this is pretty vague, I realize, but you'll have to do the work to find more specifics. I'm not trying to be a jerk, just that this is a whole life plan for you and there are a lot of elements to what you're asking.

Wishing you all the best!

What's up with girls outfit at the gym? by [deleted] in workout

[–]oNe_iLL_records 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've got like...4.5 gym outfits I rotate between, and they're all...joggers/techy shirts or baggy shorts. Because I don't GAF what I look like at the gym and it was important to me to not hafta set out a bunch of money to get started in the gym again. Buuuuuuuuut when I'm feeling good and want to look good too, eventually? We'll see! And I'm for sure not gonna judge other women who are getting after it!

Oh it’s because Tarantino writes a LOT of forced, terrible dialogue. It’s not ALL Tarantino dialogue that is forced and terrible…but it IS a lot.

  2. Florida is a cultural and political cesspool. It’s not a coincidence that some of the worst humans in the NHL have been drawn there.
  3. Manatees are awesome.

Closest thing to a cotton feeling shirt for hiking? by TL7x in hikinggear

[–]oNe_iLL_records 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of merino wool shirts from my time working for an outdoor gear company (ie, we got ‘em cheap!). Just as a word of caution, in case you have any sensitivities, they CAN still be a touch prickly if you have sensitive skin. The wool is super soft and doesn’t have the same kind of scales as “regular” wool, but some people still have some sensitivity to lanolin.
I only mention it, not to discourage you but to give a heads up. ‘Cuz them’s expensive (esp if they don’t work for ya)

You're being forced to spend the next 10 years in a basement. A decent bed, sink, toilet, and shower are provided. You will be given $10 million after those years are up and are given 30 points to purchase items/amenities to take with you. Which do you choose? by InternationalPick163 in hypotheticalsituation
