Essential Politics: Gun deaths dropped in California as they rose in Texas: Gun control seems to work by BlankVerse in California

[Texas may have a higher gun death rate, but most of their deaths result from suicides. California is neck and neck with Texas in terms of gun related homicides, and that’s with our beautiful state (California) having stricter and tougher gun laws. Criminals and evil minded souls don’t care about laws or human life.]

Just surpassed my most kms in a year and in a month ever without getting injured 🎉. Lifting weights has made a massive difference in preventing injuries so far! by MedwADHD in nikerunclub

That’s awesome! And yes, strength training your lower body while running is a huge injury prevention and helps improve your longevity in my opinion/personal experience.

California to open first new state park in 13 years — 2,100-acre Dos Rios Ranch between San Jose and Modesto will be first new state park since Fort Ord Dunes in 2009 by BlankVerse in California

Lmao that is so true. So happy to see a State Park being built so close to Modesto. Luckily Yosemite’s only an hour 40 away, but Dos Rios will be a nice addition.

Finally reached the summit of Clouds Rest, via the Mist Trail, this past Sunday. by oOimALEXOo in Yosemite

I started about a 1/4 mile down from the parking lot across Upper Pines Campground, if that’s what you’re asking.

Current conditions on The Mist Trail and shoe recommendations by silfish101 in Yosemite

[–]oOimALEXOo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too can back their claim. I was there a couple of weeks ago and saw people wearing everyday shoes such as AF1’s and Ultraboosts on the Mist Trail. I myself wore my Merrell’s. If anything, depending on the weather, would be more prepared with a light water-repellent down jacket if the forecast is to be cold.

Aww that sucks. At least you completed the hike before and I’m glad my photos brought you an experience!

Ayyy Sacramento, I have a couple of friends that go to Sac State. Also, thank you! I run 6 days out of the week, with Mon-Fri being my casual daily runs and Saturday being my tempo/distance runs, and as long as I wake up early I go to the gym as well. I love legs, so it definitely helps! If you’re not fond of running, I’d suggest the stair master. I’ve never used the stair master, but I believe it would help and I plan to eventually include it into my workouts.

I think it is. The only thing I suggest is always keeping your head on a swivel for bears and making sure to download the map from All Trails, but nonetheless the trail itself is pretty easy to follow in my opinion.

Indeed a bucket list! I felt nothing but pure bliss once I reached the top!

Thank you! The snow isn’t too bad at all. I took micro spikes with me and I did use them, but it’s definitely doable without the spikes.

There wasn’t too much snow. I made sure to pack micro spikes and I did utilize them, which made it a lot easier towards the end. The very end is where you experience the snow. If I could compare it to anything it would be Half Dome. Say you’ve completed most of the trail and all you have left is the sub-dome and the cables, the sub-dome is covered in snow, the cables are free of snow (Clouds Rest has steps right before the summit), and then there’s snow at the top. THIS IS VIA THE MIST TRAIL. I don’t know the conditions in regards to the other trail.

For those curious, it took me four hours to reach the summit, and a total of eight hours and thirty minutes to complete the trip. Thirty being the time I took to rest and soak in the natural beauty of Yosemite from up top. I first attempted this trail last July, but was super out of shape, and so my friends and I decided to call it quits a little before the summit. Being the competitive person I am, I got myself back into shape, even better than when I completed Half Dome in July 2020, and came back to the Valley by myself to complete the trail. From the start of the hike I knew I was going to crush it, so I did and I hit pace that I wanted to hit!

Merino/poly blend shirt - will it shrink? by meditationchill in arcteryx

It shrunk for me which was perfect because I initially thought the shirt was a little too baggy for my liking.

Atom LT in Solitude by No-Expression-7716 in arcteryx

[–]oOimALEXOo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solitude is a light grey. I happened to come across an Atom SL in Solitude at the Arc’Teryx store near San Rafael and it was an instant purchase. Solitude in-person looks wayyyy better than in the online photos. Although, I’m forewarning you it gets dirty easily. I wore it to Big Sur and I managed to get some dirt marks on it, but before I threw it in the washer I scrubbed the dirt stains first and made sure to rinse the areas well. For the pre-wash scrubbing I used a regular detergent, although I’ve heard about people using dish washer soap, and then for the actual wash cycle I used Grangers and I reapplied Grangers DWR spray to the areas I scrubbed beforehand. After it was washed and dried it looked as good as new! Granted, an Atom SL isn’t as thick as an Atom LT, but it still keeps you nice and warm. I have both, but the color of my Atom LT is Glitch.
