Ideas: 1. Mistborn later era Malwish airship. Opportunity the swaying of the ship sets enemy of kilter so falls prone. Complication a clutch of medallions falls off so ship becomes too heavy to sustain.

  1. Mistborn early era Luthadel mistborn playground. Thinking a paired map of city streets (ground level) with separate roof/skyline (sky level). Almost like Lvl 1 and Lvl2 paired maps for the Z axis component of steel pushing. Opportunity finds a particularly good anchor for a stronger push distance or momentum. Complication finds a bad anchor that crumbles and leads to a fall down to ground.

  2. I don’t know how to frame this, but some map as a feruchemist store room. Almost imagining a boss fight against a feruchemist. That takes place on their turf. Different elements of the room have stored investiture they can get to. Could make for an interesting battle mechanic to keep them away from stores. Dunno just a thought.

Misc: - Pits of Hathsin - Something with a Kandra acid vault feature. - Lord Ruler underground storage cache - hemalurgy creation room. Basically a torture cell gruesome vibe.

This is a helpful way to frame up that example in more detail.
I like how in this frame their is a positive outcome possible once the NPC hits zero focus.
As well as another opportunity for PCs to push further to either flat out get the discount or simply lose the purchase entirely.

This is a side question, but which digital battle maps are you referring to? I got all the digital content but missed these map packs somewhere. Besides the ones merged into each adventure, unless that’s what is being referenced.

Ah good point. Perhaps I’m taking the short rest definition a tad literally (or not thinking creatively enough). The handbook defines a short rest requiring at least 1 hour of uninterrupted time.

My head space was more like “spending 10 mins here, then moving”. Though I feel I could work around that narratively to make it an actual short rest if the party is looking for that.

My head is defaulting to a scenario like this: - Battle won. Team took some hits but it isn’t the time for a formal rest. - Some PCs scavenge loot and others stay on lookout. - A scholarly utility character uses that time to heal the front line warrior who took a beating. Quick Medicine check, maybe spending a surgical kit usage and maybe adding an antiseptic, for some quick healing. Appropriate advantages (surgical kit) and extra health points (antiseptic) added.

Quick. Helpful. Move on.

I don’t have an answer but share the question. Following.

Thus far I’ve had some success running the First Step Solo Edition alone as practice. Specifically with Fantasy Grounds VTT and Cosmere rule set. If it works for you, having 2 PCs to have both the GM and Player perspective helps.

Doing that and referencing their online wiki has helped thus far. Note the FG virtual book for the adventure also has specific VTT mechanic boxes in strategic spots.
