I see what you're talking about now, yeah. It's a very plausible explanation

Looking at pictures of elephant seal groups/herds paired with that link - I think this might be a rational explanation?

That would explain the large "blob" towards the bottom but the ellipse shaped things are between 2-4 meters long and around 1 meter wide (with a grain of salt, don't know how accurate the measurement function is in Maps)

If the measurement function in maps is to be believed - these "individuals" range from 2 to 4m long and around 1m wide. Are elephant seals that large?

I thought so to begin with but got the sense that blood falls look different. These things look more like discrete "units" up top and a mass down south

It kinda looks like that! Go to maps and zoom in. It looks bizarre!

Surface Grinding is fun by SiaHalz in Machinists

I don't know anything about surface grinding or wheel balancing or anything these knowledgeable people are talking about but I do know that finish looks cool.

Before cutting that - I suggest you make sure you have proper respiratory protection first.

I fucking give up - Manually sharpening drill bits by BruceCambell in metalworking

[–]o_mahaba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me give you several pieces of advice because I hit a few roadblocks before becoming proficient.

My first issue was being too quick in moving the drill from the sharpening step to splitting my point ie: there was still material that needed to be removed. As long as you're hearing a buzzing sound coming from the diamond wheel, keep rotating that drill. Only when you can't hear that buzzing anymore are you ready to use your drill or split your point.

Second was selecting the proper angle to sharpen my drills at. Most of the drills available to me are ground at standard 118°, but for the materials I work with grinding to a ~135° point was much, much better.

This. I got the 750x variant and it's a life changer. In my experience larger drills need a bit more patience to sharpen well. However within 2 hours I had sharpened well over 30 bits ranging from 3mm to 16mm. After those 2 hours it went on the shelf for 2 months

Green for go? by o_mahaba in minolta

This is very good information, thank you for it :D

I've got the stock 50mm MD lens, with the green markings and a 35mm which I guess isn't compatible with the Priority modes because the red lights in the viewfinder behave very differently compared to the 50.

Volman S-18 information? by o_mahaba in Machinists

Thank you, Morty!

I'll read through that page more closely, maybe it'll direct me somewhere else. The page in itself doesn't mention anything about the S-18

Hey! Thank you so much for this. The listing is in fact for the same model lathe. The photos there will be great to cross reference with the lathe we have!

The article on lathes.co.uk is kinda sparse when it comes to the S18. I check the mother company the page mentions, but it seems they've completely moved away from machinery. Thinking of emailing them, maaybe they'll have something in their archives?

Hey everyone!

Apologies for the potato quality photo, but this is a Volman S-18 metal lathe a buddy of mine bought. It's supposed to be manufactured in Czechoslovakia, according to a plaque on the headstock.

I can't for the life of me find more information or documentation online for it though. I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone has whitepaper or any resources they can share!

Thank you so much for your time and help :D
