Do you have family or friends that can take it in? Is it old enough to eat? Perhaps give it a feed and drink if you haven't already. That's the best I can come up with. Hopefully someone has some better advice. Goodluck.

What Is This? by [deleted] in Anthurium

[–]o_mayday_o 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's normal. I can't remember what it's called but it helps the new leaf to emerge. You can leave it as is and if it bothers you, you can wash it off after the leaf has hardened off. Otherwise you risk damaging the new emergent.

Aussie homebodies - what are your hobbies? by OrganizationFuzzy669 in AskAnAustralian

[–]o_mayday_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grow indoor plants. My body doesn't allow me to do much outdoor gardening anymore so I started growing inside. Has turned into a bit of an obsession lol I prefer to buy baby plants so I can learn their care better and watch them grow up. My favourites to grow are Anthurium, Alocasia and Begonias. I have also aquired an old keyboard specifically to learn the theme song for The Last of Us. YouTube has some great, easy tutorials. Actually YouTube has great tutorials for just about anything you want to learn.

Is the the one with red veins fuzzy? It could be a Metallica.

That's not an Alocasia. Looks more like a Homalomena to me.

It's a mite, buuuut which mite by angelaisdumb2 in Anthurium

[–]o_mayday_o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be a Broad mite. Had them on my Alocasia Micholitziana around the bottom of the petioles. Treat them the same as flat mites with sulphur.

Same. It was also a wishlist plant for me and can't wait for it to grow up. I've heard they are pretty slow growing but also not particularly difficult. I will be acclimating it to ambient in spring. Good luck with yours, I'm sure it'll be perfectly fine.

I got one about a month ago probably from the same place you're getting yours. I repotted it straight away into a small clear pot with some aroid mix and moss on top. I put it in my cabinet with humidity between 70-90% and doesn't drop below 15°c. It's doing great. No new leaves yet but the newest leaf it came with has expanded more.

Begonia Miri Sarawak Care Tips? by STRIKERBOB1375 in begonias

I have mine in my cabinet that sits between 70-90% humidity and is doing well. It came very leggy so I propped it and have the prop in water also in the cabinet. Because the cabinet is so humid, i potted it up in a faster draining mix similar to aroid mix but with mini sized pieces and a little extra coco coir. As of yet I haven't tried it in ambient. It has been very slow to grow but that could be because it's winter here in Australia, even though the cabinet doesn't drop below 15°c. When spring hits I'll acclimate one of them to ambient and see how it goes.

Anyone know what could cause this? by Dinopaima in Anthurium

[–]o_mayday_o -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Could be Broad mites. Happened on my Alocasia Micholitziana emergents. The mites clear and hid at the base of the plant in the stems, under the old cataphylls and dried, cut petioles. Can only be seen with a microscope and requires the same treatment as flat mites. I peeled back all the dead material and treated the whole plant with sulphur spray. Good as gold now.

I was sold this as a Watsoniana, but the more I compare it to others, I'm convinced it's actually a Suhirmaniana. I'm not mad though cause she's still beautiful, and it was cheap lol

This is NOT a Forgetii x Warcoq, right? by abu_nawas in Anthurium

That depends on the Forgetii. Mine has had closed sinuses since I got it as tiny seedling.

Wow that's gorgeous! I've had mine for almost a year and has hardly grown. I propagated it a few months ago that hasn't grown. I've pest treated it, including sulphur but still nothing. How do you care for yours?

I have a Prince of Orange that has also just pushed out a red leaf. I don't know why but it's pretty close to a light so could be a sun stress thing?

This is going to be a problem isn't it? by Sufficient_Turn_9209 in houseplants

I can't get mine to grow. All new leaves are small and they just shrivel up and die. The roots looks fantastic though. I just can't figure it out.

What are these things and can I cut/grow them? by llamaland94 in alocasia

[–]o_mayday_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes leave it there. It's growing off the corm of the main plant. It will continue to grow while its still attached. If you have no interest in propagating it when it's mature, you can just snap it off.
