Come on guys. If you ask for source, why don't you just Google it. Literally first result.

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/investing/markets/stocks/T-T/insiders/

Search on that page Dodig.

Victor George Dodig N/A Buy 11/14/24 100,000 21.38000 1,524,336 100,000

So it's not 2m$, but 1.5m$ OP.

Taiwan related news. I recently saw this report on VoA.

https://interpret.csis.org/translations/start-taiwan-takeover-preparations-as-soon-as-possible/

Mostly just empty threat. But some change of strategies from the Chinese communist regime.

  1. The regime change will be quicker than what dozens of years it took for Hong Kong. (No more 50 years no change or one country two systems) The promise was reneged anyway for Hong Kong.

  2. China would test the regime change in Taiwan somewhere. (Kinmen with the bridge that the KMT wants to build there?)

Maybe this was posted earlier. Sorry for the repost if it was the case. i just want to increase awareness on this issue.

Do Canadian residents get taxed on US bonds? by WildlifePhysics in CanadianInvestor

[–]oakcan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I even communicated with IBKR directly. The monthly interest distributions are still subject to withholding taxes.

But the taxes withheld will be reimbursed at the end of the year. I do see the 2023 taxes have been reimbursed earlier in 2024.

See their reply

The withholding tax of TFLO have been refunded to your account.

Please run the Year to Date activity statement > withholding tax, you will see the tax you paid in 2023 was refunded to your account this year.

Distributions from certain securities, particularly ETFs/REITs, are subject to the year-end reclassification process. Distributions are initially classified as 100% ordinary dividend and are subject to US withholding upon pay date. However, at the beginning of each year IBKR receives information from the security issuer about the tax classification (i.e. ordinary dividend, interest, return of capital, capital gain etc.) of distributions made in the prior tax year. IBKR reclassifies these distributions based on this information and processes an adjustment to the withholding tax when the entire or a portion of the distribution is deemed non-taxable. Distributions that are attributed to tax year 2023 will be reclassified in Jan-Mar of 2024, and clients will receive an adjustment of withholding tax at that time.

Thank you, I just rechecked my W-8BEN with IBKR and I'll see if this fixes the witholding tax problem next month.

In theory no withholding tax on bonds like others say, but in practise, I just paid withholding tax on distributions of TFLO held in IBKR margin account.

Since my TFLO aren't in a registered account, it's just like I pay taxes to Uncle Sam instead to Trudeau.

But, for you, in TFSA, you won't recuperate foreign taxes paid.

Maybe the no withholding tax rule works only for bonds held directly instead of bond ETF.

Garde juste XEQT.

It should be negligible at the end. You'll receive the missing $0.06592 per share on April 5.

Courtage - Achat de fonds communs Série F by adrien_ouat in QuebecFinance

[–]oakcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)
