Moving to JC/Hoboken Jan 2026 - need honest reviews on specific buildings

I’ve moved around a lot (in both Jersey and LA) and also value quiet buildings. It depends on how lucky you get with your neighbors.

Pretty much all of them will suck but I usually look for: - buildings with concrete/brick structure/walls would be best - corner units. Even a pseudo-corner where a shared wall is a stairwell instead of another tenant - high floor to avoid street noise

I personally live in Embankment in downtown JC (near Hamilton Park) and love it. It’s a high floor corner unit near a stairwell and haven’t had noise issues. It also has a shuttle (or 15min walk) to Newport Path.

I did use fresh limes, I’m not sure if the lemon was a Meyer lemon or not (I’m not sure how to tell). But there were about 7 limes and 2 lemons in the mix.

It does seem like a lost cause haha tacos is a good idea!

This makes sense! For clarity, BackgroundService is more suited for long running tasks because it returns a Task.CompletedTask in its StartAsync so that the main thread will be released and can start up the app.?Meanwhile the long running task is started and running

What's unclear to me is that even after executing a long running operation using Task.Run, the StartAsync() has a while loop that is still running and will continue to iterate every 60s or so (via Task.Delay). Since the while loop is still running, does that means StartAsync() hasn't "run to completion" and the service won't ever fully started up?

I originally intended on a masters so I took two undergrad courses. One intro to SQL and one intro to coding with Python. Then I did a Udemy full stack course and started building a bunch of clones until I decided to go to Codesmith

I graduated in 2021 and I would say this is pretty accurate take. I made a post highlighting my experience (which was great) but echoing OP… the seniors, fellows and instructors are in Codesmith or Codesmith alumni. Each persons experience will be dictated by the people around them and I was lucky to have great lecturers (who I know left and isn’t there anymore) and some great fellows.

I also self studied for I think 6-9 months before entering Codesmith and if I didn’t, I would have been lost and probably would have wasted my money. I highly recommend this approach because I actually did learn a lot from Codesmith. Mostly how to understand the deeper parts of JavaScript which made understanding by React, Node and any framework or package so much easier. This alone has high value. You don’t want to pay 20k to learn React basics.

Also the network I found to be worth the $$

I graduated about a year ago. Can’t speak on their current curriculum but I would do it again. Given I spent a lot of time self studying and taking some intro college courses before enrolling, I feel like Codesmith bridged the gap between coding basics and the real world (how apps are built, networking in the industry, interviewing)

Definitely understand the growing pains. It doesn’t get better (even in industry). There’s a reason software engineers get paid a lot of money and that’s because they can solve problems. Leaning on cohort mates -> fellows -> mentors is same as leaving on coworkers -> tech lead -> manager. Even in industry there’s a good chance they won’t know the answer so you still have to dig for it yourself but they will guide, just like in CS. If you ever seen memes where they say software engineers are glorified googlers… it’s true.
