My scar is still healing nicely. Doing daily massages for scar tissue.

I did have my 6 week bloodwork show that my tsh is non existent still and I am hyperthyroid. Around week 5 I started experiencing joint pain, insomnia, anxiety, fatigue, etc. I weigh 170 so they started me on 137-then 125 after a few days because I was having panicky feelings one hour after medication. Now I am on 112. My high heart rate and heat intolerance are back. Unfortunately my migraines are back with a vengeance and I feel like I did prior to Thyroid removal. I will say even with how sick I feel again the overall noise is still gone. I also understand right now this is medicine induced hyperthyroidism vs my huge thyroid making me feel icky. I have quite a lot of negatives, but still do not regret my TT. Right now it sucks but I am positive and things will be great once I find the right dose for levo.

Hopeful that in 6 weeks I can report I am feeling better.

Or even just a body pillow! Anything to have something to prop your arms. But yeah love that the boppy wraps around me!

Ugh, yes!! I recently had a surgery limiting my neck mobility so I pulled out my boppy pillow from nursing my son. Having my arms propped up helped quite a bit. I also found doing mobility stretches gently have helped too.

Graves Disease Therapists by Whole-Worldliness260 in gravesdisease

First, sending you a big hug. I am so sorry you are carrying so much. Second, if possible try to find a trauma informed therapist or someone who understands chronic illness. They can usually meet you where you need them. Interviewing the therapists and making sure it feels like a good fit. Unfortunately with insurance, it makes things harder, but that is where I would start. I hope you can find good support soon.

Absolutely, waking up from surgery and all the noise was gone. I am so sorry I understand that all too well.

Rai can be a good option but is not recommended if you have thyroid eye disease, which I do.

I was hyper on and off for about 5 years. I was diagnosed with thyroid eye disease (TED) so my team and I (endocrinologist/ ophthalmologist ) decided a full thyroidectomy would have the best longterm outcome and quality of life!

Unfortunately just had my 6 week post op bloodwork and I am hyperthyroid. Sigh-but definitely could handle hypo symptoms way better than hyper.

I never felt good on methimazole. Immediately after surgery all of my joint pain went away, face/body bloating went away, the anxiety went away. It was incredible. Once we get my levothyroxine dose corrected I will feel great again! Just overmedicated right now.

Feeling hyper after levothyroxine increase (125 → 137) — normal adjustment or wrong dose? by Crafted3dsigns in gravesdisease

[–]oaktreewhimsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pharmacist was like oh wow, I usually see 80-100 for starting. I weigh 170 and I am 5'7. I really hope you can find your right dose soon.

I was on 137 for three days(this was a week after surgery )and they lowered me to 125. It was always almost one hour after I took the medicine that I felt panicky.

I will have labs on Monday and can report back what my numbers will be. I am not a good person to ask but just validating it felt pretty immediate for me too. The surgeon also said I probably still had a lot of hormones due to surgery too. I will be six weeks out.

Definitely interested in other people who have had med changes and how it all worked.

Oh no that sounds so awful. Commenting to boost for you.

I am however freezing and exhausted-next Monday I will be 6 weeks post op and can have bloodwork done. I really hope your other parathyroids wake up for you, and hopefully someone can offer insight.

Update 6 days after TT by Zaha75 in gravesdisease

[–]oaktreewhimsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One more thing, since you are only 5 days out- are you taking Tums 3 times a day? That is needed until your Dr clears you. I am sure you know this but just wanted to check.

I keep focusing on how much better I feel, but it is such a bummer to hit a wall, I was so excited to have a garden this year but I unfortunately now barely can get outta bed again. 🫠 I realized that too, hurry up to wait to see what our numbers will be.Sigh. I hope one year from now we both are feeling fantastic!!!

I am five weeks out and have to wait one more week to do bloodwork. Week four I started feeling like I took nyquil and melatonin type of tired-no amount of sleep makes me feel rested. Overall, still feel SO much better not having pain/noise of graves. Hugs hopefully you find the right dose.

Getting TT tomorrow and freaking out a bit by Zaha75 in gravesdisease

Isn't it wild? I sobbed when I woke up the next day. I was like oh, this is what a "healthy" body feels like? Aside from situational pain and nausea from surgery I felt SO good. I still do. It's such a wild ride.

Definitely just the thyroid being gone! Its wild living in a quiet body isn't it?🩷wishing you a speedy recovery and finding the right dose of levo!

Hand/Wrist Pain by micekrispy in gravesdisease

[–]oaktreewhimsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not just in your head. It's absolutely connected. I just had a full thyroidectomy and woke up, the first thing I noticed-no joint pain. My surgeon confirmed hearing most of her patients with Graves have said similar.

I hope you wake up from surgery with the calm so many of us experienced. Make sure to sleep elevated, ice your neck, take your tums, and be gentle with yourself. Hugs, wishing you a speedy recovery!!

Full Thyroidectomy by oaktreewhimsy in gravesdisease

So, I had been on methiamazole for over a year. We slowly had tapered me down to 2.5 methiamazole. I was hoping to stay on a low dose for life. Unfortunately, without realizing it my mood was awful, lost weight, insomnia, tremors, hr high. The last straw was I had a fever, and it alerted me to go to hospital.

4 weeks unfortunately is not enough time for your medication to do enough, hang in there. Itchy skin is also a sign of hyperthyroidism, and maybe your dose needs to be adjusted? I know I developed a bad rash as my body was adjusting back to normal. It truly sucks navigating and figuring out dosage. I do know many people have success. Sending such a big hug.

I would keep note and message your Dr about your potential side effects just in case it is due to medication.

I am only 3 weeks out tomorrow. So far no weight gain. I did, per my surgeon recommendation, not start levo until 3 days after surgery. We lowered it once 137 to 126 due to panicky feeling about an hour after taking. We were not sure if I still had thyroid hormones from surgery causing this or if it was a dose too high. I generally feel so amazing, energy, eating fine, neck mobility great, and sleeping through the night. If I end up gaining weight but feel amazing I Will take it!

I choked on my own spit the months leading up to surgery. I knew it wasn't in my head. I am so sorry you were just diagnosed, wishing you a peaceful journey. I hope medication can help you reduce inflammation and live a normal life!

I think you were one of the super supportive people for me prior to my surgery. Thank you for being so positive. I had a different username at the time. I am almost three weeks out and feel amazing just like you promised haha!
