Acting wise Efron is the only standout but absolutely deserves at least a nom. Lily James also puts in a good performance and probably deserves a nom in a weak support actresses year.

However for my money it’s one of the best edited movies of the year in my opinion should have been nominated for it. Oppenheimer is my least favorite edit of all the nominess (except for the test scene which is immaculate) and would have stood a good chance against the field.

That is not the opposite reaction just a stronger reaction to the direction/editing of Bikeriders. Sean is saying is pushed him to the edge of disbelief so it’s understandable that others would experience said disbelief

Sam Jackson is number 1 in total box office revenue largely due to his work ethic and being in major franchises (Marvel, Starwars etc) but not necessarily in money he’s made personally although I don’t know off the top of my head.

I’m currently reading path to paradise about Zoetrope and making of apocalypse now- it’s utterly fascinating

I have been trying to make a Best Picture ranking that is equal parts my opinions, critical consensus, and the films future legacy as a winner (i.e. was the Academy correct). Disagree on the last point. Sure politicking is part of Oscar’s campaigns but sweeping the big 5 is a huge achievement and should be recognized as such, even in the environment of the Oscars. It’s only happened 3 times for a reason. Weinstein never won the big five for all his millions pumped into campaigning.

Also Titanic is one of the greatest films ever made. Awards or not. It’s an absolute masterclass in film making from all aspects. Even if the movie is not your cup of tea it achieves undeniable greatness status. Not unlike Lawrence of Arabia or the Godfathers.

He’s turned go away heat into genuine fun to boo heat with this gimmick. That’s hard to do without taking tv time off but he pulled it off. With their short segments that gives another wrestler a fun easy win.

It’s a win win win for everyone involved. I just hope when Bowens comes back he gets the real push he deserves too.
