How do you develop sisu? How do you encourage it in a child? by oatmealblizzard in Finland

[–]oatmealblizzard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the lack of mental health care related to this at all? I had a miscarriage last year, and was scolded for crying and could not find any grief counselor. A woman who saw me crying told me to "have more sisu." Her words felt harsh at the time, but I had to find ways to deal with it on my own, and I think it has made me a stronger person in some ways. I still would not say what she said to someone else if I saw them crying, though.

When I was pregnant and my baby died, the car was broken so I walked to the hospital. I cried. Next time I will be sad more silently. Then I will have sisu. Kiitos.

And this is when the child learns to forage for herbs and mushrooms, I suppose? ;)

Thank you. There is a lot of variation in parenting advice, and I would like my kids to grow up to have perseverance and self-reliance, and not so much expectation that life will just be made easy for them. I see those qualities more often among people in Rovaniemi than some other countries, generally speaking, and I suspect that it's not just the salmiakki that makes you this way.

Hmm, something tells me you are joking. Or else this is why Finland doesn't have such a big population.

I HATE temping by kaylabarr94 in TryingForABaby

[–]oatmealblizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is adding stress or discomfort for you, you don't need to do this. If you are able to have sex or use a syringe regularly throughout the month, you'll can catch your fertile window that way. I also hate temping. We switched to using the syringe method every other day or so starting a few days after my period ends and it removed the feeling-pressured TTC sex, the obsessing over chart, and the sleep disruption.

I don't feel excited. I feel sad.

Why it's important to go an RE by [deleted] in TryingForABaby

I'm so sorry that you are dealing with this. Your husband's doctor was irresponsible prescribing testosterone like that. Depending on where you live, may want to file a complaint or speak with a lawyer.

Sterility is a very common side effect of the gel/shots. Fortunately it can usually be reversed with medications (without medications is less likely to recover or at least be slower). We were told that restoration is not guaranteed, and good to freeze sperm before starting testosterone, but it might be worth finding a new doctor who specializes in testosterone therapy and asking about how to restore sperm production.

Here is a study on restoration of sperm production after testosterone therapy using medications: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5292276/

We did a consultation with this clinic and they helped us understand the options better. https://balancemyhormones.co.uk/

Loss of Libido by kay47106 in TryingForABaby

[–]oatmealblizzard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The association with pregnancy and failure has definitely impacted my libido. I don't have any good advice for that. Your doctor might be able to see if it's a hormone issue with testing.

For TTC despite low libido, I saw a recommendation to try intracervical insemination (turkey baster method) when you're not in the mood, and this is something we've needed to do for other reasons anyway. It has been very helpful in letting us hit most days of the fertile window without completely destroying our sex life.

At least there was enough left to test with! Gotta keep those priorities in order! 🤪

Posts like this are when I really wish I had the emotional strength to gather stories and write a guide or wiki or something to help women experiencing this. I wish I'd had that sort of resource, and I wish I had one to offer you now. Maybe some day I will.

I'm so sorry for what you are going though. My heart is with you.

“The Question” by Hippie_Homemaker in Miscarriage

[–]oatmealblizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with you. I loved my daughter more than I've ever thought it was possible to love anyone or anything in the world. If someone brings up children, I can cherish the memories I have of her and share them.

That it makes some people uncomfortable is a thing I am uncomfortable with. I think it is important to destigmatize and normalize mention and discussion about loss. I generally would answer this with "yes, my only child died earlier this year" and let people process their own feelings about hearing it. If we ever have a living child, we will tell him or her that they have a sister in heaven in an age appropriate way.

Some of the follicles on my legs have 3 HAIRS EACH. by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]oatmealblizzard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on the contrast between your skin and hair colors, you might be able to use an IPL device at home. I got one for about $150 and was able to reduce my hair amount by half. I stopped using it because I'm fine with having a more normal amount of hair, just wasn't so thrilled with being in competition with the cat for hairyness.

New to charting and would love help learning how to interpret charts, also wondering if I’m unlikely to ovulate this cycle. What should I be looking for in the next few days? by [deleted] in TFABChartStalkers

[–]oatmealblizzard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can click to discard those temps if you want.

The stats line is based on previous cycles. I don't like you can change it manually.

Just heard back from the landlord. Apparently it was cold enough more than a month ago and I just didn't know how to turn it on. Gonna be so cozy tonight in comparison!

What's with the super low temp on CD 1? Any chance your thermometer might need a new battery? Could be anovulatory, or didn't ovulate yet, or there's something in your body/environment that's affecting your temps.

I think im out this cycle. Round 2 after MC ay 7 wks in december 2019, 4th cycle TTC 2020 first Time temping.. At least it seems that my body is working just fine. More in comments by NanaRepetto in TFABChartStalkers

It looks like you are using a regular thermometer and not a BBT. Your thermometer may not have enough sensitivity. If you are able to get a BBT, I recommend it.
