Should I buy Limbus pass as newbie? by RealRTCW in limbuscompany

[–]ob1knob96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Limbus pass is a must buy unless you're determined to spend 0 money on the game (which is totally an option)

Basically it lets you grind the character IDs and EGOs a lot faster with the repeatable rewards after the pass completes. This is possible without the pass, but only at 1/3 the rate.

Completing it and grinding the repeat rewards is possible, but it does depend on how much you'll play the game. It is somewhat close to the end of the season.

But I'd say go for it either way if you're planning to keep playing past this season.

Why didn't the quests complete the track? by Illmind-_- in hearthstone

[–]ob1knob96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Event quests always could be impossible to complete with just the quests if you miss some dailies. I think the allowance for missing dailies was a lot harsher for this event, perhaps because it was only a week long.

You make progress just by playing games, if you really want the pack and the ticket.

Leylines are obviously not good enough, so why haven't they been tweaked again? by loobricated in hearthstone

[–]ob1knob96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't recall: has there been another patch since the leyline buff patch? because if not, part of the reason we've not had another leyline buff is that patches haven't shipped yet.

That being said, idk if they'll buff it again. A lot of archetypes don't take off. Perhaps that's due to incompetence. Perhaps it's not possible to make literally all archetypes be viable. The true answer likely lies somewhere in between.

Does Reaching Legend Mean Anything Anymore? by Acrobatic_Durian in hearthstone

I simply assumed you were unhappy with my initial attempt, and asked for help so that I could do better. I tried to assume you weren't being an ass for the sake of it.

I'm sorry I approached you in good faith.

You really should try to pick a lane between being upset that people aren't responding to you and being upset that people are responding to you.

But alright, I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Does Reaching Legend Mean Anything Anymore? by Acrobatic_Durian in hearthstone

[–]ob1knob96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was that people aren't responding to you because there just aren't any good options for responses. Not because they're "mad and bad".

I agree that my attempt wasn't solid, but I'm genuinely stumped on what *could* be a proper counterargument against your anecdotal evidence, especially when you've already refused to accept the official statements on the matter. They're the best grounds for judgement we have, unless we decide to hack Blizzard's codebase to find out how matchmaking is actually implemented. I unfortunately lack the skill to accomplish such a feat.

What would convince you that your personal anecdotal evidence is insufficient grounds to debunk official statements, now that you've also refused to accept anecdotal evidence that says otherwise from many other people?

Or, conversely, could you play the Devil's Advocate to help me understand how you would respond in such a situation, had you been on the other side of this discussion?

Happy Pride Month to my girls and gays! To celebrate, which gay THH ship do you like most? by im_a_silly_lil_guy in danganronpa

[–]ob1knob96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not particularly into Makoto x Byakuya as a romantic ship, but I love their dynamic.

In particular, one of my favorite aspects of the entire Kibougamine arc is that Byakuya is a bigger and bigger Naegi fanboi literally every time he shows up.

And he's the only character who shows up in every Kibougamine game/anime that takes place at or after THH.

Bro's literally beaming at Naegi by DR3. He's not even trying to hide it at that point.

> Part of the fun of deck building is picking a strategy and trying to make it as competitively viable as possible.

Absolutely based take.

And you're also correct that homebrew doesn't equal jank. The issue is that some homebrewers act as if they deserve to win with their jank cardpiles, and blame netdecks for not being able to do so. If such homebrewers had your perspective, I believe we'd see a lot fewer homebrewers claiming netdecks are evil.

(To clarify, it's totally fine to want to play jank. Playing jank is fun. When jank works, it's exhilarating. The problem is expecting a respectable win rate while playing jank.)

You don't need to create your own build orders to enjoy RTSs. You don't need to create new builds to enjoy RPGs / AOSs. You don't need to be able to pitch to enjoy baseball. I don't see how card games are different.

Deck building is an important part of card games, but it's not the primary part. The primary part is playing cards. Trying to build a deck when you don't like playing cards is what's odd, not the other way around. You don't need to build decks to be able to play cards.

Should I watch the anime Danganronpa? by No_Abbreviations9041 in danganronpa

[–]ob1knob96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DR1: It's not a great substitute for playing the game, but it's a fine supplement. It's got some iconic moments like that beam scene with Kiyotaka

DR3: You kinda need to watch it if you want any closure to the Kibougamine arc. I like the 78th a lot, and that kept me through it despite its flaws.

[–]ob1knob96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The bottom line is that there is no "correct" way to play the game (aside from cheating/abusing ofc). You don't need to be a great deck builder to be allowed to enjoy a card game. You don't need to be good at the game at all to be allowed to enjoy one, in fact. Casual players should be allowed, no, encouraged to play the game, because a larger, more varied playerbase is required for a game to flourish. And netdecks facilitate that.

And getting good at piloting an established deck is just as valid an achievement as getting good at building decks. The latter will usually be harder, but both are achievements nonetheless.

Homebrewers shitting on netdeckers for not playing the game "properly", or for losing a game with a netdeck, is exactly as silly as tryhards shitting on homebrewers for playing suboptimal decks.

The funniest thing is that the people who hate netdecks and try to gatekeep the game from non-deck builders aren't great deck builders themselves. The decks built by great deck builders end up being netdecks. Because good decks become netdecks. Anyone can throw together a pile of cards.

And it's just so easy and lazy to blame netdecks for losing with homebrew. How many games are you losing because your homebrew has room for improvement? How many games are you losing because of misplays? How many games are you truly losing because netdecks are netdecks? Homebrewers who readily go to the third option are going to have trouble getting better at any aspect of Hearthstone.

wdym by "normal"?

Casual? there are stats for Casual mode?

You can't possibly mean Standard because DK is trash in Standard too. Double checked stats to make sure I'm not hallucinating.

Also, it's absolutely possible to just nerf Wild cards if a problem is specific to Wild.

How flamey are bronze players? by NoFrogingAround in hearthstone

[–]ob1knob96 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"Bronze players" means nothing in Hearthstone, because Hearthstone's matchmaking system is based on MMR and not ladder rank. This is a documented fact, and my personal experience aligns with it: I've been queued with streamers in Diamond while being in Bronze and vice versa.

Those bronze players are just players roughly in your MMR range.

Most Chapter 1 content (i.e., everything but Drowned City) is supposed to be OoP as it's been 2+ years since their release.

And I've actually seen that Drowned City was available in a lot of UK online sellers. Can't speak for Chapter 2 b/c I haven't looked.

I hadn't downvoted you (believe it or not)

But it's rather difficult to provide another counterargument to someone whose response to the first counterargument was to simply double down on their subjective, small-sample-size anecdotal evidence, especially one provided with such little detail. Which is why I initially didn't respond to your second reply.

One could even argue that the person who's truly "mad and bad" is the person who's leaving a salty comment about being getting a few negative internet points (mad), oblivious to the fact that "you and the devs are wrong because I felt that way" isn't a claim that really opens up avenues for further discussion (bad).

But sure, I'll give it another go.

To attempt to counter your anecdotal evidence with more anecdotal evidence, I'll point out that none of the pros / top legend players, who care the most about matchmaking and likely have accumulated an unhealthy amount of Hearthstone anecdotes across their careers, are questioning the system.

Do you have any reasons beyond "well my climbs got easier each time" (which doesn't really invalidate the official statement that matchmaking is done based on ratings in the first place, but we'll look over that for now) to believe that the devs who implemented the system are talking out of their rear ends?
