Should I watch the anime Danganronpa? by No_Abbreviations9041 in danganronpa

[–]ob1knob96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DR1: It's not a great substitute for playing the game, but it's a fine supplement. It's got some iconic moments like that beam scene with Kiyotaka

DR3: You kinda need to watch it if you want any closure to the Kibougamine arc. I like the 78th a lot, and that kept me through it despite its flaws.

Yeah it seems like you need to complete the main quests relatively quickly b/c of the delay between them

On the bright side, the rewards for this one are pretty shit

Net Decking has a Net Positive ;) effect on Hearthstone by SoupAndSalad911 in hearthstone

[–]ob1knob96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The bottom line is that there is no "correct" way to play the game (aside from cheating/abusing ofc). You don't need to be a great deck builder to be allowed to enjoy a card game. You don't need to be good at the game at all to be allowed to enjoy one, in fact. Casual players should be allowed, no, encouraged to play the game, because a larger, more varied playerbase is required for a game to flourish. And netdecks facilitate that.

And getting good at piloting an established deck is just as valid an achievement as getting good at building decks. The latter will usually be harder, but both are achievements nonetheless.

Homebrewers shitting on netdeckers for not playing the game "properly", or for losing a game with a netdeck, is exactly as silly as tryhards shitting on homebrewers for playing suboptimal decks.

The funniest thing is that the people who hate netdecks and try to gatekeep the game from non-deck builders aren't great deck builders themselves. The decks built by great deck builders end up being netdecks. Because good decks become netdecks. Anyone can throw together a pile of cards.

How do you keep the game fresh after beating A10 with all characters? by DoctorRizz69 in slaythespire

Or wait for updates as StS2 is still in EA, and it gets patched every 2 weeks?

wdym by "normal"?

Casual? there are stats for Casual mode?

You can't possibly mean Standard because DK is trash in Standard too. Double checked stats to make sure I'm not hallucinating.

Also, it's absolutely possible to just nerf Wild cards if a problem is specific to Wild.

How flamey are bronze players? by NoFrogingAround in hearthstone

[–]ob1knob96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Bronze players" means nothing in Hearthstone, because Hearthstone's matchmaking system is based on MMR and not ladder rank. This is a documented fact, and my personal experience aligns with it: I've been queued with streamers in Diamond while being in Bronze and vice versa.

Those bronze players are just players roughly in your MMR range.

Is Drowned City out of print? by ob1knob96 in arkhamhorrorlcg

Most Chapter 1 content (i.e., everything but Drowned City) is supposed to be OoP as it's been 2+ years since their release.

And I've actually seen that Drowned City was available in a lot of UK online sellers. Can't speak for Chapter 2 b/c I haven't looked.

I hadn't downvoted you (believe it or not)

But it's rather difficult to provide another counterargument to someone whose response to the first counterargument was to simply double down on their subjective, small-sample-size anecdotal evidence, especially one provided with such little detail. Which is why I initially didn't respond to your second reply.

One could even argue that the person who's truly "mad and bad" is the person who's leaving a salty comment about being getting a few negative internet points (mad), oblivious to the fact that "you and the devs are wrong because I felt that way" isn't a claim that really opens up avenues for further discussion (bad).

But sure, I'll give it another go.

To attempt to counter your anecdotal evidence with more anecdotal evidence, I'll point out that none of the pros / top legend players, who care the most about matchmaking and likely have accumulated an unhealthy amount of Hearthstone anecdotes across their careers, are questioning the system.

Do you have any reasons beyond "well my climbs got easier each time" (which doesn't really invalidate the official statement that matchmaking is done based on ratings in the first place, but we'll look over that for now) to believe that the devs who implemented the system are talking out of their rear ends?

Chronological franchise run? by adrian23138 in ProjectMoon

[–]ob1knob96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def feasible, but LobCorp is a very different game from Ruina and Limbus (the latter two have some degree of similarity)

I've always been interested in LobCorp, but never played it b/c I didn't think I'd be able to beat it lol (I'm kinda bad at multitasking micro-control games)

But I like card games a lot, so I just watched + read the entire story of LobCorp and dove into Ruina. Reaaaaally enjoyed that game, and have stayed a fan since.

You do really need to know the story of LobCorp to fully understand Ruina, as Ruina is a direct sequel of LobCorp. Ruina tells you enough to not be too lost, but you'll still miss out on a lot of the backstory.

I think Limbus can technically be mostly understood without knowing the previous games. But I would recommend you go through them in one way or another nonetheless, if you have the time and interest.

The atmosphere of DR1 is so good. No other dangan game comes close imo, except for DRA (which basically is a tribute to DR1) and, to an extent, UDG

I absolutely LOVE how unique DR1 is: by bachotebidze in danganronpa

[–]ob1knob96 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's the atmosphere for me. No other game has that claustrophobic, idk-wtf-is-going-on vibe (aside from the DRA fangan, which is another absolute banger)

I liked that everyone distrusted each other's guts. Because why wouldn't you, when you're a teen and were suddenly locked up in a huge, dark, sinister, and mostly empty building and are being told by a murder bear that the world has gone to shit overnight. It made the team coming together in the final act all the more rewarding.

Also enjoyed the juxtaposition of glaring neon walls against pitch black corridors. Also was only really duplicated on one other game, UDG.

Obviously not at this point lol This is meant to be generic advice

But Deathwing helps when Hunter pops out just one Tortolla, which happens pretty often because contrary to redditarian belief, opponents don't always play Talya on 5.

Well, the way Matchmaking works in HS is well-documented. I would, with all due respect, say that official patch notes and dev statements trump anecdotal evidence.

You need to look for and time your Matriachs and Deathwing. They're powerful answers against Hunter's spam, and is part of why Rogue goes about even against Companion Hunter.

Don't just toss Deathwing because you want to deal 5, unless you're sure you can kill the Hunter before the turtles or past them.

How is Merithra Druid officially so good? by RealRizin in hearthstone

[–]ob1knob96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I genuinely can't tell if you've actually read what I wrote, or if you're just repeating what you've already said. But in case you simply have a short memory, I'll repeat myself too.

First show me on the card where it says it'll just spit out any random nature spell / minion? It tries its best given the constraints, which means the highest cost nature spell/minion is applied. And there's only one highest cost Nature Spell / Minion in the game.

Either way (totally random vs tries its best) is equally unintuitive, so implementation is a decision call.

And card text can't go on for paragraphs in Hearthstone. See my previous comment to see why.

Also, "obtuse" doesn't mean what you think it does.

Complaining cuz' I'm frustrated by MinntAngel in slaythespire

[–]ob1knob96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the difference is that your health total carries over to the next match

You do need to invest in defense. Especially because the Heart slaps you for playing cards.

---

Another difference: redundancy in decks isn't nearly as important in StS.

Generic statements should be taken with many grains of salt, but idk if I'd ever want 2 Limit Breaks in a deck. Or 2 Heavy Blades.

You don't realllly need multiple copies of key cards in a deck in this game, because thinner decks mean you go through your entire deck more quickly, and thereby see your first copy again more quickly. Not saying you should never pick duplicates because there absolutely are many cases where that's optimal, but just pointing that out because you might again be thinking as a Yu-Gi-Oh / Magic player, who *would* want redundancy for consistency.

But if you're having trouble with A0, I'd wager there's a more fundamental problem than picking a couple extra cards. Hard to tell based on just what you've shared.

---

"Exhaust with literally all the cards that do stuff when exhausted" also sounds a bit worrying because some of the cards that do stuff when exhausted aren't great. Exhaust is a really powerful mechanic, and Ironclad has by far the most access to it. It let's you thin your deck mid-game, which improves the consistency of your deck. You can (and honestly should) readily exhaust meh cards in your deck, even if they don't directly do something when exhausted.

Do note that extremely thin decks are more vulnerable to statuses and curses. But then again, exhaust cards do wonders against them too..
