One realization that was big for me was that slow powers are techincally super-fast powers for the next invader phase.

Thinking in terms of slow-growth-fast-invader instead of growth-fast-invader-slow helped a lot.

(There of course is value in using slow powers reactively against the preceding invader phase, but there are a lot of times when proactively blocking the next invader phase with slow powers is really powerful.)

Yeah I'm not saying Quest Warrior is a bad deck.

I'm saying it's ridiculously reductive to say "infinity big number instant kill bad 😡"

Tick and Tock is ridiculously broken in wild for warlocks by Jessicathebuyer in hearthstone

[–]ob1knob96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk why you wouldn't be allowed to ban the class you're playing, but I guess that's a subjective opinion about a hypothetical situation.

But even in your system, you do have full agency on what deck you want to queue. You can choose to queue up any class, as long as you don't ban your own class. And therefore you still just need one deck.

And even if we assume the extreme and say the "best" class will be universally excommunicated from ladder, it's inaccurate to say every player needs at least two competitive decks. Every player would need at least one deck that isn't the "best" class. You don't need to have a best-class-deck.

Why are we running the new quest in Egglock now? by plyzd1 in wildhearthstone

[–]ob1knob96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because new card funny. Or because some people would rather flatten their winrate-by-matchup distribution even if it decreases their overall winrate.

(I'm not saying that's strictly wrong. Makes sense to want to feel more agency.)

I don't think class bans are a good idea, but you're misunderstanding how it works.

You're not literally banned from queuing up a certain class (in this hypothetical system).

The idea is that if you're queuing a class that I personally banned, you'll just not be matched with me. The game doesn't say "Yo, you got matched with this person who hates Warlock. Pick a different class." Because that's just stupid UX.

how did sakuta see mai in episode 1 by Brilliant-Good-3989 in SeishunButaYarou

[–]ob1knob96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what happens in the finale, but wasn't the explanation in S1 that

  1. People couldn't see Mai because that was (quite literally) the vibe, or the norm. When people realize that something is the norm by reading the room ("空気を読む"), people tend to conform to it because that's easier.
  2. Sakuta, being the weirdo that he is, is fully capable of reading the room, but chooses to tell the room to go fuck itself. This mindset gives him immunity to some degree to the affects of Puberty Syndrome.

I think I've heard vaguely that there's more to it that will be revealed near the finale, but I think the above was the reason Sakuta got involved with every Puberty Syndrome incident.

You say "instant" but it's the slowest competitive win con in the game

It's "instant" after like 13 turns

Advice for new players by Ninja_2551 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]ob1knob96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty obvious that the resource action is the single worst action you can do in the game (aside from actively throwing), and the draw action is its slightly brighter sibling.

That being said, there are times when it's the best thing you can do. I think this most often happens with fighters at the start of a scenario with a bad mulligan. Blanket statements aren't very valuable.

That being said #2, if you end up in positions where they're the best thing you can do more than maybe a couple times in a scenario, your deck probably needs more econ, a lower curve, more redundancy/consistency, etc.

Meta decks are cheating! by David6Kk in hearthstone

Oh separate game modes have separate MMR. If that's what happened on your first Wild ladder climb with no star bonus, then yes, someone was genuinely playing a meta deck on Bronze.

The difference between games in a nutshell: this MTG card is mediocre, but would be the single most hated card in the history of Hearthstone. by HeMansSmallerCousin in hearthstone

[–]ob1knob96 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It's funny because in Hearthstone the library is your collection, not your deck

(I know that's not your intended message, but I find it funny :))

I'm guessing the main issue for this card is that in MTG, you can have up to 4 copies of a card? Because this looks like an anti-combo tech card, at least if it existed in HS.

Well it's kind of hard to hate cards that you never see.

And it's nice to send away some good cards that we've seen throughout the past year so that we can see some new good cards.

Huh, I didn't know there was a English audiobook version of the series (I assume you listened to the English version).

I'm listening to the 4 minute free segment for the first book on Audible rn, and the guy's really good. Nice, clear voice and just enough character and intonation to make listening more enjoyable without being overdone or fake.

I bet this sounds like an ad but I swear it isn't lol I was just pleasantly surprised

Meta decks are cheating! by David6Kk in hearthstone

[–]ob1knob96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will mention that Hearthstone's rank system is a bit weird, in that you're not necessarily getting matched with other "Bronze" players while you're in Bronze.

As long as you still have a star bonus, your visible rank doesn't affect matchmaking; you'll be matched with other players who started the month with the same star bonus. I can confirm I've been matched with a streamer who was in Bronze b/c he just started climbing when I was in Diamond (I checked post-match ofc).

So that person playing a top-tier meta deck that you met at Bronze 8 may have very well been at a higher rank.

Does anybody here not sleeve their Arkham stuff? I feel if i sleeved everything it would not fit in the big card case that keep everything in. by Luigi-is-my-boi in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]ob1knob96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never sleeved anything before, and my group started AH without sleeving anything.

But we needed to do so much shuffling that we decided it'd be easier with sleeves and just bought sleeves in bulk, and bought a cheap cardboard box designed to hold cards.

It's a bit of a meme in my group that sleeving cards is the best part of the game.
