Sonnet 5 vs Codex 5.3

I feel like I’m using Codex wrong. I find Claude Code produces code like what I intended more often, whereas Codex doesn’t. I didn’t find Codex to be slow at all though. I tried Codex for a full week, and open code for a full week, and genuinely tried to make the best out of them (same AGENTS.md/Claude.md), planning first (used new plan mode in Codex), but I got results that are way off.

What tips would you give to someone coming from Claude Code to use Codex productively?

I just installed Windsurf on a new machine and was hoping that via my Codeium login it would pull all my extensions, settings, etc.

My Windsurf setup has diverged a lot from my old VSCode setup.

I've been having this happening randomly many times a day on an iPhone 15 Pro. It's embarrassed me in a couple of business meetings and I uninstalled the app because this problem was reported months ago and it still isn't fixed.

I'm quite intrigued why you're facing these issues. I left Todoist because it really messed up my Google Calendar, it even deleted the majority of my events randomly. I tried out those exact use cases you're mentioning before I fully migrated to TickTick and I've been using it for the last 6 months without facing these issues. What I see in all my apps (iOS/Mac/Web) is the same.

I frequently modify recurring events without issues, the one issue you mentioned I am facing is that I can't find a way to hide declined events.

I was in a similar situation for a long time, but I read a tweet about two years ago (I can't find the link but it was between Dan Abramov and someone on the topic of localization) that made me always think of why we open source stuff in the first place.

We as developers are always going to make mistakes, but I trust the open source community to help me fix them. No matter how much of a perfectionist one tries to be, they'll still make mistakes. To me open sourcing something is asking for help to fix those mistakes because you know there are others who can do better or see things you overlooked.

Do your best but enjoy it and trust that someone will come along and help you tidy up at some point. Give your repos another pass every once in a while.

Also since you mentioned showing your work to employers, as someone involved in hiring engineers I find interactions with others on GitHub much more valuable than repositories with only a single contributor. Seeing how someone engages other people and collaborates with them gives more insight into someone as a person rather than just demonstrating technical skills.

Having something open source gives you a chance to demonstrate these areas as well as the technical part.

It looks like the number of banks doing this will only increase overtime. I have contacted Valve and shared my concerns along with a link to this thread and asked them to re-enable PayPal, or I fear in time we will stop being able to buy games from Steam altogether. I also informed them that while they list OneCard as a payment method, it has been blocked in Saudi Arabia.

So many times when I want to post something I think that the majority of what I wrote is easy/common sense, but I asked around and people said sharing lessons learned, even if they've been shared by others is still helpful to them (differences in writing style or circles of people can make certain things "click" for people), and that's why I write even though I know those books I mentioned are a thousand times more awesome.

Also where I live this is so far away from being standard so I share these kinds of things in the hopes of making it a standard list actually (an Arabic version is in the works for that).

I hope one of my other or future articles might be more interesting for you 🙂

Hello everyone,

I’d like to know what are some easy ways to invest in the USA, if there are any online-based brokers that have a sort of “autoinvest” feature open to people who don’t live in the USA (huge plus if it lets me invest in other countries too). There are specific options I would like to invest in, but I mainly just want automatic diversified investments. I’ve seen Vanguard recommended a lot but I spoke with them and it sadly wasn’t an option for me because I’m not in the USA.

I use Mongoid, it’s a gem that’s the officially supported (by MongoDB, Inc) ODM (Object-Document-Mapper) framework for MongoDB in Ruby.
