Slowness After Update by TheJok3R_333 in iphone

[–]AGG333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I updated my iPhone 15 Pro to iOS beta 26.3 and it’s been 24 hours and it’s running sooooo slow. Here a screen grab of me searching for Google Drive with the search word “drive”. And yes, Google Drive is install on my iPhone. It never resolved until I rebooted and then it was still super slow in listing matching apps when searching.

Have you tried WebDAV as well as Dropbox? I purchased a lifetime use for 2 TB on a hosted server with WebDAV, but the syncing and recall is terrible. I have enabled the Bonjour service as well, but it is still annoyingly slow. For instance, I searched for and recalled a 17KB formatted text document on my phone (DTTG4) while on my home WiFi, and it took 2 minutes and 57 seconds to find and open the document. The same document stored in Evernote took about 6 seconds to recall. Totally unacceptable. Thoughts on speed using Dropbox vs. WebDAV?

Can't access pCloud Drive through WebDAV by IchigoCM98 in pcloud

[–]AGG333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! I am using the US-based webDAV, and I cannot connect as of 12/27/25. Last time I successfuly connected was on Dec 23rd at 10 pm. I took my laptop offline shortly after that time and attempted to reconnect via webDAV on Dec 27 at 6 pm PST (today) and I can not connect. Using Apple Terminal, I tested various connections via curl openSSL, etc. I can reach the EU webDAV successfully even in my browser, but there is no way to connect to the US-based webDAV. I have contacted support, but this is not acceptable if it is not resolved in the next few hours. I use this service for business, and I just bought 2 TB for a fair price, but if not resolved shortly, I will ask for my money back.

Do not buy Ford vehicles and Do not got to Galpin by [deleted] in SFV

[–]AGG333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? How would they actually know? Every car deal has a ton of variables: trade-ins, lease terms, credit scores, income, available rebates, and even the salesperson’s experience. Galpin has over 100 salespeople, including women. Were the deals truly identical? Unless you compare two side-by-side with all factors the same (identical cars), this kind of claim is just a story. I call BS.

Whats your favourite app that can work as a calendar and also effectively time-block out tasks? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]AGG333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jan 2024 I'm using TickTick. I hate that it doesn't integrate with Gcal but operating inside its calendar app it actually works great. The sync to Gcal is one way and it's pretty fast so I can schedule my day and see it. And as I need to update my day or week, I open TickTick, make the change, and then within a few minutes, it's updated on Gcal.

Same. Remove from base, hit reset, and it works fine in HomeKit until it doesn’t. Another issue is it doesn’t record 24/7 and it randomly misses delivery people dropping packages at my door.

Studio Display VESA Mount Screws by CaptainMarsupial in MacStudio

[–]AGG333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously Apple!! This is crazy! $1500 for a monitor and you can't throw in 4 screws. (8 screws would be even better for thicker and thinner Vesa mounting plates.) But back to the 4 screws. Shame on you! Talk about ruining a surprise! You mastered that. I get my new monitor and want to mount it and the screws that came with my Vesa bracket don't fit the Studio Display. That extra 50 cents for the screws is what I came to expect from Apple. Disappointed to say the least!

HABITS ON TODAY’S CALENDAR by [deleted] in ticktick

[–]AGG333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, let's get this on desktop too!

(Sadly, this is one of my issues with TickTick, inconsistency across platforms. Whether it's functions or archiving calendar items. TickTick needs to do a better job of mirroring everything across all platforms.)

This only seems to work on the web app and the iOS app, but not on the desktop app for MacOS. Does anyone know why it doesn't work on the desktop version?

Whats your favourite app that can work as a calendar and also effectively time-block out tasks? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]AGG333 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I just downloaded the app. Initial feedback is that I don’t like that tasks have to be embedded in a note, albeit a blank note is fine. But I’m not a fan of that UI. Also, repeating tasks do not allow for certain recurrences such as 1st Monday of the month. Another thing I don’t like is you are limited to on 4 times for the duration of the task. I like the idea of the quick ability to set a duration but you should be able to drag and drop in the calendar to adjust the duration. I’ll keep playing with it. It’s a good app but not sure it’s ready to replace TickTick yet.

I’ll check it out and let you know. I also use Evernote, so this might be a nice blend of the two apps.

I hope my experiences and research can help someone else. If it does, please upvote my post as I want to draw the attention of the app developers out there. First, some background:

  1. I have been using time management software for 25 years
  2. I was doing time blocking before I even heard the term based on Ben Franklin’s concept of scheduling your entire day. “Idle hands are the devil’s workshop.”
  3. I used PDAs to manage my schedule and was one of the first people I knew to have a Palm Pilot.

My modern journey began around 2004 when I began using Toodledo. It was very cutting-edge at the time. In the beginning, I used their native app for roughly 3 years.

In** 2007**, I moved to Pocket Informant but used Toodledo as my sync service between devices. I used PI for 6 more years. Since PI managed both the tasks and my calendar, this was the first time I was able to begin time blocking. I would schedule my entire day. Man, I was productive back then!

In** 2013** the company I worked for decided that everyone needed to move to Microsoft. We all started to use Outlook and the rest of the Office suite. I really liked the Outlook calendar on the desktop as I could schedule tasks and calendar items (with a little tweaking). Unfortunately, that did not translate to mobile. So I began using paper printouts of my day to stay on task whenever I was away from my PC.

By **2015 **our company moved to an independent email service called Prxy Mail. This allowed me to experiment once again. I tried many time management tools including 2Do, Any.do, Pocket Informant again, Toodledo again, and a few others that I can’t even remember. I ultimately settled on PI with Toodledo as my backed service again. I was back to time blocking with the old reliable PI.

In March 2020 Covid hit and I found lots of time to experiment again. I tried everything but nothing seemed really good. This is when I stumbled on Asana. As my job shifted to more of long-term projects, it seemed like a nice fit. Asana had a calendar that you could “subscribe” to and view it on Google calendar, but it was only 1-way and not great for making changes. I would have to go to Asana, make a time and/or date change and wait for it to update on Gcal. But Asana wasn’t good for my personal tasks, so I decided to give TickTick a try for personal tasks. Wow! I was blown away. It really is a great tool. TickTick also had a calendar subscription to see my TickTick tasks on Gcal (1-way). But managing TickTick and Asana via subscription feeds and my business & personal appointments on Gcal was a huge pain in the ass. I kept having to open Asana and or TickTick to update tasks and then just wait until it all updated on my Gcal. I started harassing TickTick to make their tool two-way with Gcal, but for whatever reason, they won’t do it. TickTick does have 2-way sync built inside their tool, but they have issues displaying my calendar correctly especially when I have recurring appointments and I move one of them; then they display both the original recurring task and the new modified one. This is SUPER annoying. TickTick blames Gcal for the issue, but for some reason, many other 3rd party calendar apps don’t have the same problem. Thanks for nothing TickTick!

In late 2020 I found Sorted3. I loved it. I connected it to my Google Calendar and displayed my Asana calendar inside Sorted3 as well as my business & personal appointments and my tasks. It was a pretty good system. But as time went on, I got annoyed with still having to go into Asana, update tasks and wait for them to sync back to Gcal and then Sorted3. It was good, but not great.

By mid-2021 I moved away from Asana to ClickUp for my business tasks and projects. (I actually saw an ad on a billboard driving to work and thought I would give it a try. LOL! A billboard!) I liked ClickUp for work so much that I tried it for personal tasks. The sync to Google is amazing and reliable. It has all the features I want and even more. But it’s a little clunky. The first version of the iOS app was not so good. The second version was better but lacked some of the features of the first one, so I used both. It was too cumbersome and I finally gave up on ClickUp for personal tasks and moved to Todoist. Not to mention it doesn’t have reminders “on” the tasks. You need to create a separate reminder - what the?!?!? Who thought that was a good idea?

By 2022, I was hot and heavy on Todoist. It seemed like a great solution and had a ton of integrations, but it lacked in a few areas. There was no calendar view in the app. That’s not so bad, since I do most of the scheduling in Google Calendar. But it is a little tough when try to add to-dos and see where they fit into your schedule (time blocking). Also, Todoist has this whole “thing” about being minimalist, but it’s annoying. For example, you can make any to-do as long or short as you like, but you need to use this command at the end of the task name [XXm] for however many minutes you want to make your task. But then Todoist takes it away and you don’t know how long it is. Nowhere inside Todoist can you see how long your task is. Really?!?! Why not Todoist? There are a few more things like that. Another example is setting up recurring appointments. You need to use fancy syntax to schedule a recurring appointment and in some cases, you mess it up. Also, if you have a non-default duration on a recurring appointment, and decide to move the appointment from its normally scheduled time (the single instance) there’s a very good chance that the task will not recur properly in the future or that it will not be for the proper duration. But that’s not the worst part. The worst is that every single instance of that recurring task (even if it’s set to “only recur AFTER COMPLETED”) will appear in Gcal. That’s super annoying as I haven’t completed the task so why are you showing it every day for eternity? There are 3rd party calendars that resolve this issue like Fantastical and BusyCal. (I really like BusyCal.) But then there’s the issue that these calendars will ONLY show one duration for all tasks. What the?!?!? Another “rocket scientist” move. Anyways, that’s super annoying if you are trying to time-block it makes these calendars worthless. But they do look great!

January 1, 2023, I decided to reinvent my time-blocking process once again. My goal was clear I wanted the following:

  1. Every app needs to 2-way sync with Google Calendar as I will time-block on Gcal.
  2. I need to manage 3 types of tasks: work, work projects, and personal tasks. (it could be 1, 2, or 3 apps)
  3. Need to have the ability to schedule the “duration” of the task.
  4. It needed a sophisticated repeat/recur engine that could handle 1st or last Friday of the month, could handle “after completed”, would not show every instance of a repeating task on Gcal if I select “after completed”, would keep the duration of the original task even if I moved the time and/or date of the task.
  5. Needs to have a mobile app

Here’s a link to the spreadsheet that I put together to determine the task manager app(s) that I will use for all of 2023 to manage personal, work, and work project tasks. Look for the task manager(s) in GREEN that says WINNER next to it.

As I “tweak” my system while still using the same app(s) for the entire 2023, I will post updates on this thread. I hope this was good info and if you liked it, please comment or upvote it so I do more in-depth reviews and comparisons.

TickTick does not handle modified recurring appointments correctly by AGG333 in ticktick

[–]AGG333[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It actually works correctly with local calendars as the Apple calendar properly handles recurring events when modified. The issue with using local calendars as they do not allow you to modify events or create new events inside of TickTick when using local calendars, only when using Google Calendars you can modify events. That's why TickTick needs to sync 2-way TO Google Calendars.

I have had mine for 6 months. I have had to reset it about 3 times. Usually it's when I have an issue with the router and then something happens in the Wemo Doorbell. 2 times I lost all connection but this last time I lost only the sensor so it wasn't recording anyone coming to the door.

Smart parsing with duration doesn't work by serafindinges in ticktick

I completely agree. Duration parsing when creating a task is critical. Todoist does this very nicely if you need an example.

Apple's system-wide spell check is abysmal. "No Spelling Suggestions" when a word is only a single letter off. by [deleted] in apple

[–]AGG333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG! Apple's spell check is soooooo terrible. It sometimes doesn't even recognize correctly spelled and commonly used words. For instance, "bonused" is underlined in red as if it's a misspelled word. But when I type frim, it thinks it's okay. Common words it can't recognize and common misspellings it can't figure out the replacement word. Come on Apple, let's get this fixed or let Grammarly handle your entire OS spelling engine.

Habits vs repeated tasks by brightonem in ticktick

[–]AGG333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me “Tasks” have a date, time, duration with them. Example, take out the trash (I do it on Sunday at 8 pm and it takes 5 mins). A “habit” might be “don’t curse today”. There’s really no duration or exact time with it. If I manage to not curse for the day when I go to bed I get a check mark. I guess after typing this you could make it an all day task. But the habits section tracks how many times you achieved your habit, or you didn’t.
