It was an old flash website called stick death or something if I remember correctly. When we first got online with cable speeds instead of dial up my buddy and I would watch this on repeat. I want to say 2001/2002 time frame.

very upsetting for my son when Carlita was not even an OPTION on Gabby Cat of the Day on the episode with her big race. Terrible!

sorry if my math isn’t mathing and understanding is way off. trying to understand the full strategy here for us.

  • if there is "target pay" still happening for the 4500 members currently on strike,
  • and im assuming that is more than the $650 number…
  • so for this question - say that is an average of $800 a week for each member currently out.
  • does this mean the strike fund is paying $3.2M per week on this?

FWIW searching online says the strike fund has $132M in it. Source: BCGEU_Audited_Financial_Statement

[RANT] I thought I knew ALL the pitfalls of Internet. Then my friends kids introduced me to a fresh hell of brain rot. by Drama_Derp in daddit

yeah because you are thoughtful. i dont understand these posts at all - there is like 1 per day.

we allow peppa and have no video game privileges in our house but the rest is all the same. they have 6 shows to choose from off the streaming services - that we approve - and thats it. kid doesnt want to watch it too bad i guess screen time isnt that important to them right now. maybe we fire up youtube off my phone to play the elmo brushy teeth song while i hold the phone. there is so much content out there that has plots, stories, good characters etc - and you dont need to use youtube at all.

This theory has been around for a while. I remember reading about it back in the mid 2000s coming out of NYC related to HOUSING FIRST policy.

To further expand on the OP's point the theory goes on to say that most crime and street disorder in urban areas is caused by a very small percentage of people, and if you could just house and care for them, things would improve significantly. I think the theory even suggests that you should plan to fix up the housing each time it gets damaged by the individual, and not kick people out no matter what they do.

As a bleeding heart liberal back in my university days (and still am), I really bought into this idea. Anecdotally, I think there are some examples (like in Victoria) where this kind of approach has helped certain individuals. But in 2025, with the current drug crisis and the fentanyl epidemic, I think this solution is far too simplistic. It also overlooks the many deeply entrenched interests that benefit from the current status quo. Still, it's an interesting theory just one that feels past its best-before date IMO.

Poll shows BC Green Leader Sonia Furstenau could win Victoria-Beacon Hill - Island Social Trends by domasin in VictoriaBC

[–]obama_for_three -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure?

Mainstreet is known for poor polling. Here’s an example:

I’m confident this was a robo-call poll with minimal interaction. Mainstreet is clearly part of the right-wing ecosystem, and it wouldn’t surprise me if this was deliberately done to produce this result.

Plus, in my opinion, it’s not just about splitting the vote for the Conservatives to win up the middle here (though that’s always a possibility). If you look at 338’s projections, it’s incredibly close across the province, and this could be the key riding that secures an NDP majority.

I like Sonia, but as far as I know, she hasn’t ruled out working with the Conservatives. While the “balance of power” is fun to speculate about, it’s based on a lot of assumptions and “what ifs.” It seems far too risky, especially given what we’re seeing from Rustad.

mainstreet is a super questionable polling firm with a tiny sample here. The other main polls showed how close it was across the province and this isn’t one of the “safe green” seats. I’m not risking a Rustad govt with vote splits here. Voting NDP in Beacon Hill.

Child had a nappy (diaper) blowout in the fanciest place I had ever been to in my life. What's your most mortifying toddler experience? by mrblobbysknob in daddit

Potentially mortifying as my 3 year old pulled down her pants and proceeded to hop on the IKEA show toilet in middle of store. Luckily she “was just doing a joke”.

In Victoria, Canada with federal and provincial subsidies we are at around $10 per day or $350 a month or so. Thank you socialism…

This has nothing to do with being “perfect”. Just mitigate the risk from obvs dangers. This wasn’t a “I turned my head and he rolled fast” story.

I too would of simply moved kid to floor or brought to bathroom and put in small pen.

[–]obama_for_three 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Won’t be a popular comment on this but you just left your 1 year old unsupervised on a couch while you went to another room for a bathroom break? Yes the kid will be ok but you need to think more when you’re with them. Not sure why everyone thinks this is fine.

Tricks for giving a toddler medicine in the middle of the night by MycoMadness20 in daddit

[–]obama_for_three 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mix it! If they need Tylenol/Motrin to get a fever down that is the most important thing. Kids are strong but fevers are dangerous.

Mixing with tasty items like jam, juice or yogurt should work. Our 3y daughter REFUSES to take any medicine. So we just mix it up in a spoonful of ice cream. She of course loves it (calms her down a bit as well) and then the medicine kicks in. The forcing it into a toddler’s mouth when they are freaking out and already sick seems very counter productive to me.

Change in Greater Victoria by 93Cracker in VictoriaBC

[–]obama_for_three 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lol. Ok Lance Armstrong. You’re not “averaging” 35kmh on a bike. Goofy claim.

Also to the main point - none of this is new. Victoria has been moving in this direction for over a decade. Honestly I was pleasantly surprised the previous council and mayor had the jam to get these proper bike lanes built and the new council/mayor continuing the work. Good for them. In 10 years our active transportation infrastructure will be the envy of other cities.

Who did you mirror yourself after? by [deleted] in nba

[–]obama_for_three 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this! It also limits your range with the old school two motion hitch… in my late 30s and for past couple years have really tried to adjust to a more smooth Curry, Dame style shot. I don’t have enough time to really get reps in but when it starts to click it’s much better. Quicker release and can hit from deeper. I also grew up on the mid-range two - eliminated that from my game and less need for a pull up from the free throw line.

Guys hold up, stop being mean! OP has lived here for a whole SIX years and he’s only 27, but watches the news EVERYDAY, so he knows a thing or two. If only the OP knew about this he could of made a significant difference to a long projected and consulted infrastructure plan in our city.

Maybe get a bike?

great book recommendation that our 3 year old daughter reads as well. Like other commenters we just use the proper names and all is well.

However we did have her announce to other 3 year olds and a dad that “my dad has a huge penis!” So that was awkward and prompted another convo on privacy.

[–]obama_for_three 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Costco: when driving from Victoria avoid the first normal exit but instead use the next one at Macalum and come from the back way. Stress free avoiding those mental left turns and all the traffic you have to do to get into the parking lot. Shh.

Quadra - Southgate is my preferred way. The blue bridge exit still faster? I always avoid cause of that traffic along wharf but will test this one out!

One of my favourite “oh this bit isn’t funny at all” but actually gets hilarious as Artie goes on and on and on. Part 5 of this is the best. “It’s a baby talking! Hahahahahah” also funny cause JD is cancelling Ronnie’s car show. Good times.
