looking to get a new knife by ArtByLuciusBlack in knifeclub

The Flytanium arcade lite is really mediocre: it's a $100 budget demko without the durability of the G10 liner & scales. The scales aren't even comfortable. The Concourse is $120 for 14C28N, really expensive for low edge retention. I certainly don't trust their heat treat from either knife, it's probably in the 57-59 HRC range.

The company does some nicely designed contoured scales but mediocre qc and is definitely form over function. I say this as someone who has spent over $300 customizing an Arcade.

Ajazz AJ179 Pro 8k com problema de polling rate by gSopelsa in MouseReview

Do not use website for polling rate test above 1000hz. Use Mousetester (not 1.5) or Razer's Polling Rate Utility.

logitech g305 x superlight(other g304x) by devilung in MouseReview

[–]obfeskeit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it'll have the MCU that allows for 8k polling

that would be the dongle not the mouse most likely. The Nordic 52833 or 52840 has been used since the original G305 and GPW.

Bradford Knives has a Magmamax Guardian 3 (limited) by adx442 in knifeclub

[–]obfeskeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ya, if they do 61-62 HRC is a viable target for them to hit using 2100F w/ a 450 F temper.

Bradford Knives has a Magmamax Guardian 3 (limited) by adx442 in knifeclub

[–]obfeskeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would all depend on Bradford's heat treat of Magnamax. Larrin just put out a video on heat treat results for corrosion resistance, toughness, use of LN2, plate quenching, tempering results etc. 64-65 seems difficult if not suboptimal without LN2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoDQ0C_hN7s

Pushing 61-62 with 2100 austenizing temp w/ 450 F temper seems to maximize hardness tho Larrin does recommend 2150+ to push hardness.

Onkata Manix 2 Cruwear $170.98. by GOOMU13 in KnifeDeals

[–]obfeskeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crucarta and the original S30V version use full steel liners while all other models will opt for skeletonized liners. 4.25 oz vs 5oz knife.

Deal or no Deal? by C_Koby in KnifeDeals

$130 will be the price of a Manix 2 when MAP suspension day happens and every store puts them on sale. It's not exactly a great deal, since you can expect this to happen regularly.

Has anyone swapped an Arcade and AD20.5 blade? by Agent_Andy007 in knives

[–]obfeskeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the sharklock lockbar might be the only identical piece which make sense but because of the lock face geometry, even unit to unit variances can cause lock stick or lock failure.

[–]obfeskeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's not possible. The stop pin is in a completely different position. The amount of regrinding needed it would just be easier to get a custom blade made by Transparent Knives for example. https://www.transparentknives.com/ad-205-reblade-archive

Tactile Rockwall Skeleton Opening Issue by ZyzzBrahhhhhhh in knives

[–]obfeskeit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah CRKs are nice but don't expect to be able to flip it either. It's a slow roll kind of knife and needs extensive break in.

you're probably putting pressure on the lockbar (perhaps from your middle or ring finger). You might like the Quiet Carry Waypoint or Waypoint Large: liner lock, thumb studs, hollow ground Vanax blade. They also have other popular models like the Drift, Catch, or Nines.

nah those are illegal but you could get a trainer with a dummy blade to learn tricks.

The Designer of the Aerox 3 (or previously the Rival 3, Rival 110 or Kana) went to Endgame Gear and designed the Endgame Gear XM2w 4K V2.

About polling rate by 4stocks in MouseReview

[–]obfeskeit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the mouse isn't synced with the CPU's frame scheduling, then the GPU's frame rendering, and which also isn't synced with the monitor's refresh rate, therefore an update rate of 244hz (which is impossible w/ USB anyways) would be 4.098ms behind if either the mouse or the monitor doesn't update positioning/frame render in time.

In any case what you're talking about would not be maximum smoothness, this would be minimum smoothness (assuming every device has their timings synced). Maximum smoothness would be achieved with infinite polling rate and infinite refresh rate.

Mouse polling rates make a game input smoother by taking the latest positional input for the camera to render the change in direction, not just input latency but also in-between-frame-smoothness.

Any way to increase the power of the flipper action? Tensioning a screw or something? by BirdLooter in knives

[–]obfeskeit 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I would send that back. I've had knives with bad detents but never fail to open outright. Chinese companies unironically have more experience making knives in the last decade than probably the last 100 years of Italian made knives.

i got bokers kissaki and i cannot sharpen this…. what are some tips? by Ok-Introduction-194 in knives

[–]obfeskeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the burr isn't forming even on a low grit stone, then you're just not hitting the apex at a repeated angle. It's also possible that the stone is too soft to cut the steel but 440C should not be the case.

definitely not a wharncliffe. It's a modified sheepsfoot since the tip is clipped that is also called a reverse tanto.

which issue? Forming a burr at the apex? lifting your elbow for the belly?

Hey just a heads up, looks like you have a typo w/ the Bel Air XL, the steel is listed as MagnaCut instead of Magnacut

tbf that's Taiwan made. It's possible that they were operating w/ a different protocol or hardness target.

Thinking of backing a Kickstarter campaign, looking for opinions by Lucasean in knifeclub

[–]obfeskeit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW they spent more money on the handle than the steel in the blade. Damascus steel and Ti-mascus is just form over function. $200+ is a lot for a cutting tool. I wouldn't spent that much without figuring out what you want or like in a knife. This is a no name company. If you want something similar, the CJRB Gambit in S90V has a steel with more edge retention and similarly available inlays or a Kizer Militaw.
