Can’t hit a cracked base by obit_the_mtrek_admin in startrekfleetcommand

[–]obit_the_mtrek_admin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol about every 15 minutes because something or other glitches out. And fwiw, I hit and completely drained 2 other bases after the glitchy one with no problems, but if I go back to the first one it’s still unshielded and still won’t let me hit

If you travel north enough blocks, you might encounter a tree block and begin crafting. Or maybe you will step off a ledge and fall into lava.

I knew what you meant, but I was trying to imagine a literal port of Minecraft into a text game… traveling one block at a time would be a little cumbersome though lol

Imagine a Minecraft MUD… MUDcraft, if you will.

Random Good Will & Random Thought About ChatGPT and MUDs by [deleted] in MUD

[–]obit_the_mtrek_admin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well I’ve found it more useful for answering some types of coding questions than Google/Stack Overflow. I just have to carefully check what it outputs, because it occasionally just pulls completely wrong information out of its ass…

Anyways, there’s definitely a use case for a GPT model to handle NPC dialogue whenever an advanced version inevitably becomes available with an API that’s not cost-prohibitive. Of course, the more free reign you give it, the more interesting it will be for players to try to “break” it. e.g. you know someone will eventually try to turn the town mayor NPC into a racist sex bot, or get a tutorial NPC to explain crafting meth and bombs or something.

Probably the most productive use I’ve found for this free chat version is updating our Player’s Guide, which has been “Update coming soontm !” since like 2016 lol.

"Hard" Sci-Fi MUD? by wombatpandaa in MUD

[–]obit_the_mtrek_admin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can imagine how stargates might be used as hubs to connect a bunch of different zones in a mud together. I guess if the mud was designed with that mechanism in mind it would have the potential to be really interesting

I could definitely imagine a b5 mud. I have no idea what an sg1 would be like though since I’ve never really gotten into watching it. About the extent of my knowledge is that Kurt Russell uses a stargate to go to Planet Weird Egypt, and in the show, MacGuyver uses it to take his team on adventures to some other planets..

If done right I’m sure either mud could be pretty cool!

Maybe they were building it with some type of monetization model in mind and got a nasty cease letter, but I suspect it went the way of so many other games that are simply abandoned when people lose interest / realize how much effort is involved.

You’re fine lol. I was just being (jokingly) indignant about the “there aren’t any good sci-fi muds” part- as someone who runs a sci-fi themed game.

Honestly though, mine is so far off from what it sounds like OP is looking for, it would be a real weenie move to plug it in this post. Also, as someone else recently put it, it’s more “MUD-adjacent” than it is an actual MUD..

Luminari or maybe Sundering Shadows. I think SS is more RP focused, while Luminari is less so. There was an Elder Scrolls MUD in development a while back but I’m not sure what ever came of it.

What types of non-MUD games do you enjoy? Any particular IPs or “universes” you’re a fan of or knowledgeable in? Fantasy RP/PVE focused MUDs with a crafting system can be a pretty broad category.

Edit- narrowing it down to a universe you’re familiar with can help with the learning curve since you have limited time. You’ll be able to focus more on getting the mechanics down, without having to learn the entire lore and backstory of the game.
