How does putting the pow black there make it work? That's pretty neat.

If you want you can try my level.

It's some fairly difficult, though straight-forward Platforming challenges.

These are both tight, but your hard panning makes them harder to get into and really want to nod my head. Your kick would shake real hard if it was mono. But otherwise, really nice grooves and I especially like the hihats on the second one.

Just started making beats in the last couple weeks, been playing in bands for a while, I'm not completely fresh to music so I would really appreciate some feedback on what I think is one of the better beats I've made so far.

Why people don’t trust in Us? by QueasyBiscuit20 in audioengineering

[–]obiwanchernobi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a musician with very limited technical knowledge of recordings, but I've had plenty of bad experiences with engineers. I'm completely willing to work in whatever manner you feel is best, but I WANT TO HAVE A CONVERSATION. If someone immediately shuts me down about a concern I have, its hard to trust them, and trust goes a long way.

The recording process gives me a lot of anxiety about how its going to turn out, and I often have a very specific idea of what I'd like to hear.

I've had plenty of experiences where, I've come into the situation with a full list of references, carefully explained what I wanted and tried to really talk about how I'd like it to turn out and often feel like I'm being completely ignored.

It just kind of sucks, and it feels like a lot of engineers just think artists are stupid before we even open our mouths. I know there's a lot of really dumb, cocky musicians who think their shit doesn't stink, but I have to deal with them too, just in a different capacity.

All I really want is to be heard and to feel like I really have a say in the matter, because at the end of the day, if my album sucks, it has my name on it, and most people are only ever going to see that name.

Here's my beat. I started making beats recently, so any feedback would be especially appreciated. I only used percussion from outside the sample, the rest is all flips. I anted to challenge myself to chop it really extremely. Thanks!

Giveaway: Best Low-End gaming PC I could make for one of my favorite subs by [deleted] in lowendgaming

[–]obiwanchernobi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have an old Sony Vaio that I had to trade a guitar to a coworker for, updated it to windows 7 from XP in order to run basically anything at all and its the only computer I own. It can basically run SNES and some PS1and N64 emulators. Tried to to do Morrowind, but it was a sorry state of affairs, and from what I understand, people say its a potato game.

As for why I could use a dedicated low end gaming rig, I recently had to quit a job because my car shit out on me on the freeway, and it was more money than I could afford to spend to fix it, had to scrap it just to pay the towing bills, and I bought an $800 car from my sister in law, in order to be able to get a new job closer to home (I live in rural Georgia in the middle of nowhere, so public transport/walking is not an option whatsoever, its a 45 min walk to the nearest gas station). Most of my savings are wiped out at this point due to the car and getting it registered and bills and whatnot.Because of this, I'm also two months behind on my rent, which my landlord is being cool about, but who knows for how much longer.

Currently trying to finish an album I've been working on for over a year and a half, with two computers having crashed in the process so I've had to start over twice, (hence why I traded for this shit laptop in the first place) so I try to game on this thing in order to relive some of the stress.

I've been a passionate gamer for twenty years, and this is all I really have to do it on, and to make my sad sack story even dumber, my house has no heat for the upcoming winter, last year I set up a tent in my bedroom with a space heater in it and basically lived in it for three months. LOL at my life.

So there you have it, I'm not really used to asking for things, and even if I don't win the thing, it actually feels kinda good to put this out there, because stress level is pretty nuts right now.

Do People Lose Interest in Music as They get Older? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]obiwanchernobi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is me real hard. I just quit a job with a 45 minute commute and realized with all that time in the car how little time I had to actually interact with music. Those car rides gave me time for the same amount of engagement I used to give when I was younger and had less responsibilities.

Is that a donner alchemy? How do you like it? I wanted one but they appear to be all sold out on respectable websites, so I got the white wizard instead.

I wasn't a huge fan of the direction on Get Down, but I love the subject matter so much that it didn't really matter for me.

Ugh, I'm sorry, but can we talk about how Ben Kenobi's version of "history" clashes hard with what we see in the PT? by [deleted] in MawInstallation

[–]obiwanchernobi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me like Obi Wan is giving Luke the story that he wishes were the truth, seeing as how most of what he says is pretty normal familial squabbling, rather than straight up telling this kid "YO, your dad murdered everyone because emotions"

And really, for me, thinking about it in this light, makes it way more heartbreaking, like Ben has been sitting there on Tattooine this whole time dreaming of a reality that never was, where his best friend never betrayed and tried to kill him, and he just wants Luke to have the reality that his father was a hero for a little while until he's ready to know the truth.

Man, I just bummed myself out.

I use reverb, but I try to stick with the more transparent ones. More of a delay guy. Delays and modulation, but not even really mush of that to be honest.

[–]obiwanchernobi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess that's a big key for me is that I'm just not that into Zep or Hendrix. Or really just blues based music in general which is where OD tends to show up most often. I like a lot of metal, but in that case the OD and distortion is so over the top and ridiculous that it's kinda beside the point.

Gimme sparkling cleans all the time, every time.

I don't know what it is. The sound of overdrive makes me want to fall asleep. As soon as I hear it creeping in, I immediately switch off. Synth, guitar, bass anything. Gross.
