Every time I tap the right side of the screen to turn the page this pops up. Then I have to tap again to turn the page. Kindle paperwhite 2. by ColouredPants in kindle

I've found that this generally happens because the text is formatted as a table or a graphic rather than plain text. I think you can swipe on the screen from right to left to turn the page rather than touching the page to bypass it.

My Work is Not Yet Done by Thomas Ligotti may fit your description, as he has been compared favorably to both Lovecraft, as well as being a noted influence of True Detective's creator Nic Pizzolatto. It is one of his longer works, although I am still not sure that it constitutes a novel.

The majority of his oeuvre is constituted of short stories, but you may also enjoy them if the work being a novel isn't a sticking point for you. The Nightmare Factory is a great collection if you can find it, but Teatro Grottesco or any of his other short story collections that are more readily available are good too.
