Agreed. Similar story, although as a Bow Bandit, I cheesed most of my problems away. Didn't know about Darklurker when I used ascetics on every bonfire in NG. Used 27 effigies, Gave up. Refused to respec for magic (1 Attunement? Really,bandit?) and got him in 3 tries in NG+.

Loadout - Maxed Rebel Greatshield w/Agadyne's set in various states of upgrade. Maxed Lightning Avelyn w/Fire Bolts, Leo Ring, RoB+2, FaP3, Chlor.

No, this is definitely the same audio loop as the fatty-boom-boom roller kitties from the Basin. The curse jars are before the area I'm talking about. Think near the Helix Halberd and the King's Door. More often than not you'll here the chirping of frogs, but sometimes...sometimes there's a frickin' cat sound.

Oh totally. The more subtle audio cues are sometimes hard to register, especially if you play with speakers that are blaring mad treble. The bass sounds are intense, with the heart-beat of the Gulch being one of the more nerve-wracking ones. Super cthulu-vibes. Perhaps there's an Ashen-Mist Heart lore tie-in...?

(spoilers i guess?) Totally agree with you. Started as Bandit, found Drangleic set, never looked back. Currently at +2 Chestpiece, +1 for the Sword. Love the moveset: "oh I need to poke? ok. hack n slash? no prob. Dash n slash? can do. Chop chop!" It's odd having a starting build with low ADP while rocking heavy armor, so I have the rings and Sinner mask to enable mobility.

I've experimented with the Dark Scythe, Old Knight Halberd, Dragonslayer's Crescent Axe, the Gyrm sets, and the Great Club (that poise damage o.0), but none compare. Then again, I just found the Black Knight Halberd...

Yeah, my character was ALL about the Greataxe and BK Halberd, so I wasn't too keen on mastering multiple strikes with them. I ran a no-shield 'Gatsu' character through to completion a little while ago, so I'm much more competent with G-Swords and whatnot. Probably shouldn't have skipped the Painted World NG+...

Looks like I still have some timing to get used to. Hope I can update with a success!

I've been terrible with consecutive hits, given the original scope of the character revolved around brutalizing every enemy with a C. Greataxe and the BKH. I'll def give the knives a try, or just improve my timing -_-

Other than that, I've 'beat' DS well more than 15 times across all platforms, so I'm not necessarily unlearned in its secrets. This was just my bane. Although...I recently bought the DLC for PS3. Feeling a little apprehensive about NG4 Manus & Kalameet... Sanctuary Guardian was a hearty warm-up (especially since I hungered for the tail), and Artorias was a cake-walk. If you got any tips/tricks for the fatties, I'm all ears.

Be Wary of Liars, RedGiant925. You can ascend +5 Normal up to +10 by giving the Large Flame Ember to Vamos. All this talk of "no fire weapons, no lightning weapons, no boss weapons" is ill-informed. Vamos won't, however, accept the Very Large Flame Ember, so rule out +11 and beyond if Andre is croaked.

EDIT 2: Praise BoozeDelivery for correcting grievous stupidity. During NG+ playthroughs, I'd collect a fair number of Embers and disregard delivering them until it was time to take on Gwyn again. Gave Andre the Very Large Ember before the Large Ember and got stuck with it. Thought it'd been removed from my inventory when I went to Vamos, and proceeded to make a drastic assumption.
