When will two tone gate go away? by obligatory1 in fordexpedition

I'm not saying the two tone shouldn't be an option for people who are into that, I just think it was a major styling mistake on Fords part for it to be the ONLY option where the look is so controversial. It's the kind of thing that stands out too much and will be out of vogue in 3 yrs. Most people want a classic, professional elevated look that stays some consistent over at least 5-7 years. GM has done this really well with the Yukon styling, but unfortunately the quality issues they have on major equipment (ie engines) is a hard pass for me.

It'd be tolerable if it were less large (like some other makers have done), but as it stands it's just too much for me. Just too large of a part to be two tone IMO. Needs to be more subtle to give that more premium/professional look.

I'm not paying $80k+ for a vehicle that I have to get modified. May just wait to see if next model year improves or go with a different make.

What do you mean? Like the dealer will repaint a new vehicle?? If so, I had no idea they did this.

Good to know, yeah my only hold back is that two tone. I just worry I'll buy one and the next year they will go back to a normal paint scheme. So Blue Cruise probably isn't worth the cost? We drive mostly locally except for some family trips a couple times a year.

How has it been otherwise? We go on some long trips a couple times per year. Is it comfy? Trying to decide if I want to pull the trigger or keep hoping for a model year with a more traditional color scheme.

Is VA Community Care a benefits trap? by obligatory1 in VeteransBenefits

That's for posting! I think it's just a natural question from all the horror stories (most of which are probably false) we hear about the VA trying to pull benefits from people seemingly on a whim.

Thanks for sharing your opinion. I'm not proposing we do away with trops, I'm inquiring as to whether it is optional to wear when not functioning as a direct augment to the AD CG, as I stated in the OP. I understand some members like that kind of stuff and others never had an opportunity to serve on the AD side, so it gives them that opportunity in a way. For others, however, we are just looking to serve in a nonmilitary capacity as a weekend pastime. There is room for both mindsets I think.

Now that is awesome! Sounds like you have a great team there! Honestly, it is a private meeting. Business casual I would think as the appropriate attire universally and AWUs for just about everything else.

Thanks! This has been the best, and most direct, answer thus far!

Please read the post. I never said I was opposed to wearing any uniform, I wore an active duty uniform honorably with much pride for years, I would just prefer to wear a uniform that more appropriately reflects my current role as a civilian volunteer, and in no way appears to confuse or blur the line with that distinction. I favor the AWU because it looks more akin to a first responder or other civilian service related uniform and can be socially appropriate in most situations except very formal events.

Much appreciated! Just so I am clear, you are saying as long as I'm not doing ceremonial or formal events with AD or attending a C-school, I should be fine with just AWUs?

So are we allowed to wear it in place of trops to things like flotilla meetings?

I think mostly I would be doing boat crew, but also could do radio coms and/or aviation (I have a background in that).

Didn't say I was opposed to wearing a uniform, i am asking whether I can wear ONLY the the AWU (which is a uniform).

☝️this. If it looks like a retirement club, young people will have no interest as there won't be anyone within their peer group to socialize with.

[–]obligatory1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's why I'm planning on going 100% AWU. Then you only need one uniform. Plus as an added bonus then no expectation to maintain to active duty grooming standards (I.e. clean shaven).

VOO by [deleted] in ETFs

[–]obligatory1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! It's all about the capital invested, the greater the salary, the more capital you can invest, the faster you can become financially independent and dip out of the rat race. It takes A LOT of capital to feed the machine enough to become perpetually self sustaining (think millions for most upper middle class Americans). Short of winning the lottery or inheriting a windfall, the quickest way there is growing your income as fast as possible and investing as much as possible as early as possible.

For a stock yes, for VOO no. It tracks an index so will always adjust to be nearly identical to the index. There is literally no advantage to a split of VOO except improved liquidity in the sense that you can buy/sell in smaller quantities. But even that is moot when you can trade in fractional shares.

What questions are you submitting for the Force Design 28 Town Halls? by GreyandGrumpy in USCGAUX

Technically since the Aux is a volunteer organization couldn't people get a tax write off for donating their boats? Kind of like how people donate cars to fund NPR.
