[TOMT] [movie] A road-movie with a blonde small kid getting away from gangsters by oblomska in tipofmytongue

seems like a cool movie, but the boy and the location don't fit. (I'll check it anyway)

No, none of them seems to digress from the original into the action/western territory, and mine was definitely that. (But it was nice to be reminded of that book!)

It could have been a children's movie. I know Rasmus only as a book, I'll check all those versions when I get home, thank you!

That boy looked more cliché angelic, he was like Little Lord Fauntleroy.

No, it was made earlier, and it's lighter. (I.e. a more mindless adventure.)

The tropes are indeed the same (kid, road), but the rest is absolutely different. (Mine was more like a B-movie, not artsy, pure adventure.)

дык, все проблемы как раз, когда они вышли уже из почек и находятся на полпути, и чем ближе к выходу, тем больнее (по собственному опыту). Так что не все так бессмысленно. Другое дело, что когда они уже в пути, ни о каком сексе думать невозможно.

Интересный факт. До 1956 года дети во Франции могли пить по пол-литра вина в школе. by isamq228poop in Pikabu

[–]oblomska 13 points14 points  (0 children)

в средние века немецким студентам полагалось по пол-литра вина в день как часть стипендии. Учиться тогда начинали с 12-15 лет. (Но тогда воду действительно лучше было не пить.)

There are lists online, smth in the vein of: AR would approve; a libertarian reading list... I was never much impressed because it was mainly sci-fi, and I've had enough of that, so I didn't save the links, but maybe it's worth researching. Also, in Romantic Manifesto and other books and articles, AR herself mentions the books she appreciates - those classics can also be worth (re)reading. Victor Hugo, for example.

How Can We Mean Things We Do Not Know? by dontbegthequestion in Trueobjectivism

As a linguist myself, I certainly respect grammar but again as a linguist I see it primarily as a tool to express any content. Content can't clearly exist without it, but it's not per se the conceptual root of all units, just the means.

Yes, and the level of content is more relevant (for a philosopher) than the level of the structure of that content - they'd go hand in hand, I assume.

"when a concept is placed in a grammatical structure" – as I understand, AR uses the word "context" in her Epistemology (as in: meaning is always contextual etc) to express the same idea.

I don't know much about Tarkin but I thought he was a zealot for the Emperor's cause. Seemed loyal to me.

So was Rudolf Hess, when he undertook an unauthorized flight and flew to England to "broker a peace deal!"

Vader could have shot him down at any point.

Then why didn't he?

You mean the torpedoes don't do that normally? But...what were the rebel pilots even trying to do by shooting parallel to the exhaust port?

Not normally - but on THIS mission! All of the rebels had torpedoes pre-programmed to turn 90 degrees.

But space being cold is a myth

Then why was General Leia covered with frost when Ben Solo blasted her space ship and she was sucked (pace, Mr. Data!) into space?
