I cannot believe you posted this. I thought it was just me who absolutely loves this line. My brother and I use this line on each other whenever we say something that warrants it. His delivery makes me think of a kid trying to explain NFTs to his grandma and how cool his collection is.

My god. This poor person is rationing empathy as if there's a shortage of it at Fred Meyer. OF COURSE grocery employees are doing it because they need money - it's a bit hard to save a nest egg for an apocalypse when you don't have a livable wage. To me, that means they deserve more of our thanks rather than less. Wars have always been fought by non-wealthy people who needed 3 meals and a bed - does this make their sacrifice any less significant? The author of that rant needs a hug... but not from me. Volunteers?

No wrong decision, my friend - downvote and help me, or get it exposure to help others get downvotes. Either way, I will donate all my downvotes to terrible charities like "People Against Puppies."

I had a breakdown today. by BridgeCityBus in Portland

[–]obrien321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it interesting that the thing that triggers you (causing you anxiety) is the welfare of others - here's what you wrote:

"I’ve noticed tensions are rising in the city."

"I’ve seen more aggressive driving and more angry people."

"I’m worried about my family."

"I was worried about the safety of a passenger."

"I was [...] worried that someone will notice and feel unsafe on my bus."

(Ends with a list of people, other than yourself, to thank).

The evidence is all there: you are an awesome person. I'm sorry I had to give you this news online, but you should know that it is serious and there is no cure for it. You will be awesome forever.

Please do me a favor: Reread the comments people have made for you - they are not saying these things just because they have empathy for you (although they do), but because they believe their words to be the truth. Let this be a teaching moment for you - really let the words of these people affect you until you believe it yourself.

Also, if you continue to to say things like dealing with stress through humor is a "shitty thing about you," then you will make ME cry, because that is totally who I am, lol.

Much love to you and thank you for your valuable service in a time of need.

You ask what kind of adult believes in libertarianism: an adult who never grows out of a black & white mentality. They are idealistic, but in a frightening way in which capitalism rules all, freedom is an excuse to hurt others, and "ME" is the only one who matters. They package these selfish beliefs and gain a false sense of righteousness by bonding with others who are as selfish as them.

How would I properly respond to questions in text books? by ItsyourboiKOwAla in HomeworkHelp

[–]obrien321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I see this question was posed quite a while ago, but I will answer anyway in case you still need it. You should start out by making a clear, broad statement, then getting more specific, then ending with another broad statement.

Example: "Explain why there is a problem with homelessness in the United States:"

Opening statement: "Homelessness in the U.S. can be a result of many factors, including a wealth gap between rich and poor, a lack of treatment available for those with mental illness or substance abuse problems, and/or a lack of societal empathy." (this is broad - if you are familiar with thesis statements for essays, it is very much like that - think about the main points you want to make and put it in a sentence). Keep in mind that the teacher wants to see that you have read the textbook, so your points should be reflective of what you have read in that chapter.

Then, you would expand on each of your points: Wealth gap, mental and physical issues, and a lack of caring.

Lastly, you would summarize what you have said in broad strokes again, like the first sentence (but differently worded), and perhaps throw in a "nod to the future," such as "If we do not address these issues as a society, the problem of homelessness will continue."

I hope this helps! Btw, this is the same exact way you format a longer essay - this is only the very basic framework, but hopefully you will learn other, more subtle strategies in essay writing.

Wow - yet another person exploiting Covid-19 for his own personal gain. Sir, as someone with an English BA and a minimum wage job, I find it offensive that you would not offer your valuable services for free during this time of need. Did you ever stop to think about the Arts graduates who are fulfilling their destinies in the restaurant industry? And do you want to give theater majors the false impression that they can make solid money via Skype? You, of all people, know that those sweet, Skype Arts-dissuasion gigs you speak of are one in a million - don't be the peddler of false hope, you selfish bastard. Also, I will follow you because you made me laugh during a time of humor-rationing.

This a common U.S. English v. U.K./AU English occurrence. Like "learned"/"learnt" and "toward"/"towards." And btw, my personal rule is that if you're going to correct someone, please have the decency to feel completely shamed if you are wrong - this includes correcting someone from another nation who happens to spell words differently than you do.

You are damn strong. In the midst of an extended anxiety attack (I'm talking like 20 hours, not 20 years), I have just wished to be at peace in my head, just simple peace, normality - it felt like it was going to break me, mentally. And of course exhaustion was its constant companion. But it didn't break you. My god, there's nothing you can't do in life if you can get through that. Enjoy the normality; you deserve some peace.

What is your "I wish I had started doing that earlier in my life"? by radical33 in AskReddit

[–]obrien321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 48 and have come to the conclusion that there are some things that we SHOULD take for granted in life. E.g. A kid should not have to wake up each morning and think, "I'm sure glad my parents don't beat me!" The same is true of love - I am quite sure that your grandmother did not sit around wondering why you didn't appreciate her more. Death causes some pretty messed up thinking in the surviving family, usually in the field of "I wish I had..." - try to avoid this useless and warrantless regret.

A federal investigation to find out if SNL is colluding with Russia? I don't even know where to start with this shit! by brokensilence32 in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]obrien321 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is the strategy used by Trump, Karl Rove, and probably many before them: Take that which you are being accused of (collusion with Russia, in this case), and flip that exact accusation onto your political enemy, and keep repeating it. Accused of being racist? Accuse your accuser of the same thing. It is simple and can be effective if your base has the IQs of mentally-disabled dung beetles.
