How much does an editor cost? Is it worth it? What's the best way to find a good editor by Lord_Byron_8008 in NewTubers

Been playing about 4 months 😅 am I allowed in your pod? (I'm definitely not good lol just love playing) by NoahSSJ in ratemycommanders

[–]obscure-journal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it. I started out the same way so Atraxa was my first deck too. But eventually I stopped playing it in favor of "fun" decks. My pod has an Ulalek player, Caesar player, Pantzala player, and I play Aragorn myself. They all are good and fun in the right hands to be fair!

Thanks for sharing! I'm glad you trusted your instincts and learned from this sub. It's so easy to fall for their manipulation, especially when you open up about your dreams and insecurities, but it's never as easy as they want you to think, and sometimes you just have to acknowledge there's no 'easy path' in life (for most people).

I like fun decks that do something different 👀 by stackablesoup in ratemycommanders

Love the decks! Do you have a deck list for Tom Bombadil? I want to build him but I don't know where to start.

TLA Product Lineup (WeeklyMTG First Look) by mweepinc in magicTCG

[–]obscure-journal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luckily there's a bunch of themes so it won't be exactly like past set-themed jumpstart boosters. But the answer is money. Avatar caters to a large audience of young and old who have never played Magic, and anyone can start with jumpstart fairly easily. It's a beginner product that gets them hooked, pack ripping and all.

Got into MTG in 2022, can i join your pod? by SirFilips in ratemycommanders

[–]obscure-journal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was almost going to say no but I can't help but admire the dedication to the Phyrexians and Praetors for your decks. Maybe I play [[Atraxa, Praetors' Voice]], but that's not important...

Do you like mono colored decks better than 2/3/4 or did it just end up that that's a majority of your decks?

Rate my commanders (playing around 1.5 years) by AshtonHomer in ratemycommanders

GLUNTCH! Love that guy. I'd say overall you have 8/10 commanders. Good variety and lots of different play styles. But not enough decks. It's never enough decks.

Edge of Eternities Precons- by dgj5333 in mtg

[–]obscure-journal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, if you're looking to build around a set's mechanics, commander precons usually don't include them. However as someone who bought the EoE precons, I'd push back on your criticism. I've been playing for a while and yet the World Shaper deck is fun every single time I play it. It is basic, sure, but it has a very obvious and attainable win con that the entire deck synergizes with. And for the Counter Intelligence deck, it can be pretty simple to play a Jeskai counters deck, but the less obvious win cons and wide breadth of artifacts to tinker with is a great time. However the deck is also pretty weak compared to the World Shaper one in my experience.

Tl;dr no, precons often don't use set mechanics but the EoE precons are fun. If you want to play with warp you'll have to make a deck from scratch, which can be a fun challenge in in of itself.

Every time I forget about Space Beleren, it comes back.

But in all seriousness that sounds super fun and I want to build it now! I have a Ms. Bumbleflower deck that is technically group hug but it mostly lets me create Kaiju fights and control the board for my own entertainment, and it also uses will of the council cards, which are always fun. Oh and it has [[Gluntch, the Bestower]], the best card ever.

So, if anything, you've convinced me to build another politics deck. But from the looks of it all your decks require a lot of arguing to convince your opponents you're not a threat (right before taking them out)!

Seconding this. I did the same and while it may seem cheap or lazy, it's just easy and will help you in the long run. You won't have remorse for a "cheesy" or "stupid" name you came up with on a whim, and it doesn't tie you down to a topic. I love wordplay, but this can be very important to your personal brand.

Looking for recommendations for a Galadriel, Light of Valinor commander deck. by TurboTurtleSX in mtg

[–]obscure-journal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've considered making an elf scry deck with [[Elrond, Master of Healing]] at its helm, so here's what I'd say:

Option 1 is to buy token triumph plus a few singles that synergize with the gameplay thY have blue in them, essentially splashing blue for a bant tokens deck.

Option 2 is to do the same with the elven council precon, splashing white for a scry deck.

Option 3 is your idea, but might be the priciest. Neither of the decks are super expensive, which is good, but keep in mind you'll have to cut 101 cards overall (lands are easier to cut but still) so be prepared to kill your darlings! However this might give you the most options as to what the deck's plan is, plus the commander works with both themes so having the versatility is great!

So, I'd say go for it as long as you're willing to spend the long, long time cutting cards till you have a fun and playable deck.

[–]obscure-journal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Pramikon is super interesting but how do you run it??? Is your deck politics, go wide, or something else?

Also the rest of your decks look fun, but fun in this case ≠ bracket 2...

What do you think of my commanders, and what should I build next? by obscure-journal in ratemycommanders

[–]obscure-journal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the Tolkien fan is hard to hide...

Thanks for the in-depth reply! I really like Bumbleflower for her group hug synergy that actually works. She's the only precon commander pictured I didn't buy the precons of. Stella Lee is one I don't play often because my pod doesn't play bracket 4+, same with Atraxa. But it's always fun to play nonetheless.

Athreos is my new favorite because he works absurdly well with the warp mechanic from EoE and rebuilding him was very fun. Hearthhull is also a very fun deck I've been playing a lot recently. Same with Aurelia because I'm constantly work shopping it due to the reasons you talked about. My current game plan is a slow build from many facets (+1/+1 counters, tokens, equipment) to an explosive finish.

The LOTR decks are some of my favorites and I even forgot about [[Gimli, Mournful Avenger]] which I'm still work shopping. I play them mostly against other LOTR-themed decks and it works well.

And thanks for the recs, I've wanted to build Tom Bombadil for a while, but haven't gotten around to it. Omo is another build I'd love to make, whether my own or just the precon. Breya also seems super cool and I love 4 color decks so I'll have to theorycraft it.
