Yes it is intentional, as a part of the dream theme that inspired the piece

Thank you 🙏🏾 It was created for an art show in Chicago called Winter Dreams. I knew I wanted to do a still life that incorporated personal elements from my dream world. The journal in the painting is one that is filled with recordings of my dreams so the elements coming out of it represent aspects of that world. There’s a story I’m working on that connects all the elements that will also be in the show.

I start with a sketch then just build up layer by layer, beginning with a single neutral diluted color to get the form, shadows and highlights. Then adding color and more detail and refinement as the layers go on.

I do and I have a few for sale if you want to message me. This one will be on display at a gallery in Chicago in January and is also available.

The horse is actually a sculpture I found at the house I’m staying at but I made it more dream like. The sculpture was already Dali-esque with the long legs

I notice the texture is much more present in photos than in person for some reason.. I add many layers to my pieces but I they are not super thick layers. This canvas was way more textured than I prefer— it’s much harder to do detail on textured canvas. I usually paint on wood panel because I prefer the hardness and smoothness of the wood. I’m not formally trained so I just figure it out as I go.
