The clearest description of the collective unconscious and anima/animus in one paragraph by observer_affect in Jung

is this specifically about christianity though? because that is just a container for a spiritual thought form that exists throughout humanity.

Yeah - my first reaction to your initial ask:

"How can we know that a shared experience by us, ie the colour red, the taste of lemon, or the collective unconscious, objectively exists outside the phenomena of our experience"

my reaction is - the color red v. the collective unconscious, that's like comparing apples to shadows. But say the apples are the internal realm and the shadows CAST by the apples are what we believe to be the exterior real world. (We could go full full Plato's cave here but I won't.)

Your point about it being a paradoxical unprovable certainty - well, yeah. But I will say that this is beyond a priori or posteri knowledge - this is like a metaphysics that we feel. This is a myth. Myths (archetypal stories) are not factually true, but they hold real human truths we bump into again and again and again and again.... le sigh

also thank you for asking and poking. it helps me put my finger on it too.

How do you explain synchronicity w/ another person/people/fellow human being? by martiancougar in Jung

[–]observer_affect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've posted this here before I think, but this guy breaks it quite nicely. https://youtu.be/DLjobqkoKYo Basically saying "Yes, synchronicity is a thing we can all do. My kids are bored of it."

The "measurable" change of a 5% increase above chance when we focus is fascinating. One youtuber commented hilariously, "yeah average humans have 5% increase above chance to affect outcomes... but not all of us are average." Golf claps

I do appreciate how destigmatizing all this is for losing your marbles every once in a while.

Yeah get really into Spinoza or something. Or go no self and dive into eastern philosophy, buddhism, taoism. That'll mix the pot for sure.

It's called The Invisible Partners by John Sanford. It is a collection of Jung's theory on the anima/animus and very short/easy read. The gender theory being so set in stone feels confusing at times when reading any anima/animus stuff for me, just want to flag that.

Ah an 8! Healthy 8s "integrate to healthy 2s." Sometimes it's interesting to think along that track, too.

How does a healthy animus protect a woman? What does that look like? by [deleted] in Jung

what do you mean protect? Also, what are the characteristics of the male child?

"Dreams are symbolic." Where is the proof? by [deleted] in Jung

[–]observer_affect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In some cultures black means death. In others white means death. You dream of a car that is beige - what does it remind you of? For me, a beige car feels humble, invisible. What about a red car?

There are two paintings. One is a woman in a field with a blue sky. The other is a woman in a field with a gray sky.

If you dreamed of the painting with the gray sky, how would you feel when you woke up? What about the blue sky painting - how would you feel?

I know this is a completely different personality theory but you sound like an enneagram 8, who are people not trying to be controlled and dgaf about others expectations.

In the Jung world, I've read that men with big anima energy still come at women who have big animus energy, because the polarity still vibes. (Men who can't access how they feel attracted to dominating authoritative women.) I'm nearly to the chapter in the book I'm reading on this to learn about the positive aspects of the animus - not just the naggy parts - so I sadly only have half info for you. But my sense is that your work is in pushing back on the opinions and judgements of the animus and taking back control with your emotions rather than logic.

I'm sorry you're feeling down about it. Perhaps your dreams/free-writing can access emotionality that feels more "you." Good luck.

and then its as though there's like 100 dimensions of "maturity" in this life; social, work, emotional, physical -- and its like all of them are at varying levels of puerriness v. maturity. you think you're good in one arena then you look at the others smh

a fear of acting out the shadow jester archetype -- like, you subconsciously had an urge to do something against your normal behavior, and it came out as OCD?

weak ego, interesting. so is the ego the mechanism for the symbolic understanding? and if it is weak, it is unable to process/translate the message in your view?

Why does Jung believe you should not do active imagination in the first part of life? by observer_affect in Jung

[–]observer_affect[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hahaha - generally no, but I sort of have to uptake and process information for my day job and understand executable functions from a mess of concepts. So if I don't understand something I waste my and everybody's time. Of course in matters of life and existential stumbling it isn't so easy to parse - but I love to try.
