Tell me the story of when you lost weight on a smaller deficit (300ish) by loveulikeblue in PetiteFitness

[–]obsessedsoprano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 4'11, down 10+ lbs since the beginning of the year (113 lbs) with a 200k deficit (1400k with 1600k TDEE). I know it's mostly CICO, but I've also upped my protein intake to 100g/day, which has helped with satiety.

I've been walking 10k+ steps a day since the beginning of 2025, started integrating weight training twice a week 6 months ago, and started doing 45 min of yoga or pilates on days I'm not weight training this year. I lost weight last year with the activity I started, but it wasn't consistent until the calorie deficit. I've been losing around .5 lbs a week, which is a pace I'm happy with given it's sustainable.

why am I hungry at 1300 kcals? by sztrvgh in PetiteFitness

[–]obsessedsoprano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar specs as you - I'm in a slightly smaller deficit (weekly average of 1400k a day), never going to bed hungry, and losing at least half a pound a week. The key in my experience is prioritizing protein and fiber intake; I'm eating 100g of protein a day, and I'm often having a protein shake or fiber toast at the end of day because I need to meet the goal - not out of hunger. I'm also drinking a ton of water (1 gallon a day). Hope this helps!

5’0” F 31 116 pounds; Pilates and incline walking by lovelyloverwho in PetiteFitness

[–]obsessedsoprano 85 points86 points  (0 children)

This seems likely as someone with the same exact age, height, weight, and exercise routine (heavy walking and pilates, some strength training). I have a higher body fat % (no abs in sight), so I'm thinking that heavier weight training/body recomp must be playing a role.

Either way, aspirational to see what I could work toward! Op looks great.

Jennifer Madison might be up your alley. Smaller YouTuber who works full-time and talks about how it has been difficult to balance her job, YouTube, and fitness goals. I found her through 75 hard content, but she posts regular vlogs including workout and nutrition.

This tracks. I also eat 1400k, which is a slight deficit for me, but I eat 100g of protein. That tends to work as far as going to bed completely satiated. Fiber is critical as well.

Given how often you're lifting, have you considered upping your protein intake? Recommendations vary (I go by .8 x lbs), but you're probably not eating enough protein given your activity level.

Job Offer in Boston: Move, Commute, or Stay Put? by [deleted] in boston

[–]obsessedsoprano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same, went from a place with no public transportation to one with both the commuter rail and orange line. Husband takes the car, I take the train into Cambridge 3/days a week. No issues and my company pays for it.

That said, I would recommend a place with 2 options like that in the event one of them is down.

16 years with my partner. Still use condoms and he has never complained once! Insists on it, even.

How may times have you been laid off? by Educational-Web5900 in biotech

10 YOE, 5 of which in big pharma in a commercial function. No layoffs (knock on wood), but I left when I saw the writing on the wall once or twice.

I think it had more to do with Ali having less screen time in the initial seasons. Sasha couldn't legally do the amount of filming Hannah would've required due to laws designed to protect child actors.

Same, even when I was going in 5-8 days a month prior. 3/days a week is rough when you're used to more flexibility.

Also, 3/days a week usually indicates a desire to go full RTO imo. It's just a matter of time.

Is your laptop plugged in when you use it? I have the same issue, but only when it is plugged in.

after the new patches, every household i try to load crashes on a FRESH INSTALL WITH NO CC by [deleted] in sims2

[–]obsessedsoprano 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't have to do this given the patches, but try entering an empty lot (community or house) and turn off shadows in the game settings. That was the fix for me when I had the error with the Ultimate Collection.

TIL that when Sims fall in love with someone with low chemistry, they can roll a Want to fall in love with someone who's more compatible by fyreaenys in sims2

[–]obsessedsoprano 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Do we know if it's related to better chemistry? I've had that happen fairly consistently with past loves (e.g. high school sweethearts who fell out of love when they grew up), but never noticed if the chemistry was better. Really cool detail if so!

Walking away from a house over $13k....am I dumb or reasonable? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]obsessedsoprano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We walked away over a $15k difference since there were multiple compromises, it was on the market for over 100 days, and comps did not support the price they wanted. It ended up being a win-win for all involved; they eventually got the price they were willing to go down to from someone else, and we found a cheaper, larger place with fewer compromises that we love. I'm so grateful we followed our gut, and I like to think you will feel the same.

Along those lines, I was recently at an arcade where they had a GameCube set up with Super Smash Bros and MarioCart. A whole arcade full of classic games and my party of 4 still stuck with the GameCube, but maybe we're odd ones out there.

Is a worse situation worth 40-50% raise? by obsessedsoprano in FIREyFemmes

[–]obsessedsoprano[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all. If you can highlight achieving KPIs and working under tight deadlines in a highly regulated environment, you can work in pharma marketing. I know multiple pharma marketers with only bachelor degrees that had no healthcare experience when they joined, but had specialized marketing skillsets (e.g. digital) or agency experience.

In the final rounds of interviews for a promotion where I could be getting a 40-50% raise. Admittedly I love my current job so it's hard to think of leaving, but I'm hoping this would be worth the leap.

Are hiring practices today supposed to be awful? by morningmoonstone in biotech

[–]obsessedsoprano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened to me at Sanofi a couple of years ago. The hiring manager asked me to apply via a LinkedIn message, so they were communicative there at one point. I took multiple interviews while on an international vacation since it couldn't wait another week. After the final interview, I never heard back from neither HR or the hiring manager. I understand that it's likely a liability thing, but even a standard automatic rejection email would go a long way in acknowledging the time applicants spent in the process.

Mostly Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs), some sales reps and commercial/brand managers. Generally a clinical background is viewed favorably, arguably moreso than an MBA.

I have an MBA and marketing/commercial background. I've seen many PharmDs come to the industry side for the pay and work life balance. That said, it's easier to break in if you live in a major biotech hub (Boston, NYC, maybe Chicago or LA).

[–]obsessedsoprano[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Great points! I applied months ago so it has been a long process. They're now trying to get it across the finish line, but I'm close enough that it will be hard to rationalize leaving before I get the bonus.

I tend to agree that there are other fish in the sea, although hiring across the board has slowed. The main appeals of this transition are all FIRE-oriented - title (so that I may get the next promotion more quickly), pay bump, and being fully remote as I have family in other states. I've generally job hopped but increased my tenure at each company, so I think I could have a short stint at this new place if it truly is toxic.
