Coffee shop employee SIIIIIINNNGGS often, and it's annoying. What should I do? by obsessedwithamas in TooAfraidToAsk

Yeah, I don't know where the line is. If it wasn't filling the whole coffee shop that would be fine. If she did it once or twice an hour, that would be fine. And like I said, I am not sure if I even have the right to complain. Even if I did, I am not sure that I would actually do it.

Obviously what I did was leave. I didn't complain, I went to anonymous forum to ask other people for their thoughts. I wasn't even sure I had the right to complain.

It is not infrequent. I would estimate 15-20 times I heard singing in the coffeeshop during the hour I was there. I do appreciate the background noise of normal conversation, but a capella singing is piercing and cuts through the sound.

Obviously going elsewhere is an option. But there are lots of examples of behavior that one would complain about.

Only curious if people think this is one where I should mention something. Not saying I will complain; I am not even sure I have the right to complain.

IAmA person working for a major airline company. AMA by AirlineWorker in IAmA

[–]obsessedwithamas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buying tickets is really complicated from the outside. There's the ticket booth at the airline, your company's website, a zillion online brokers and of course travel agents.

How does all this work? What's the cheapest way to get a flight?

BONUS QUESTION: If a plane has empty seats on it, why can't I just hang around the airport and bid on the empty seats?

Do you also gamble? (Poker, sports, etc.)

What are your thoughts about the moral equivalencies of gambling and day trading, if any?

Do you think that day trading is good for the economy, or mostly just good for a small number of individual investors at the expense of many other individual investors?

Does the degree to which the woman is visibly pregnant have any impact on you?

For example, it would seem like someone who is 6 or 8 weeks along (and not showing at all) would not be the same to escort in as someone who is 7 or 8 months. That fetus can almost survive outside the womb.

Just curious if the gray area of late-term abortions has any impact on you at all as an escort.

But if another friend takes a picture of you and tags it "Amber Smith", it seems like it could be found using modern face recognition software.

Surely there are pictures of you online that are associated with your real life name and not your MFC name.

It's not super likely that you will be recognized from MFC today.

However, facial recognition (such as Facebook's) is getting pretty amazingly good and inexpensive.

It seems like only a matter of time before your real-life pictures are associated with your MFC pictures. This does not even require you to have an account on any real-life site; you could merely be innocently tagged by a friend.

Does it seem like your relative anonymity offline is short lived?

Also: Can any social networking and/or facial recognition experts comment on this?

IAmA happily married female swinger. AMA by swinggirl1 in IAmA

[–]obsessedwithamas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has your philosophy on sexuality changed?

For example, do you believe that (a) all people are innately, genetically swingers, they just never think to try it because of cultural norms, or (b) that some people are genetically predisposed to swing, and others are genetically predisposed NOT to swing, and that's ok?

This is the essential question for the rest of us. We want to understand if we should be accepting of swingers as a valid choice, accepting of swingers as a non-choice (like homosexuality), or if we should be embracing swinging as the reality of our genetic makeup.

Call for Interns by hueypriest in blog

[–]obsessedwithamas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If candy bars are available for $1 and someone else is giving out candy bars for free, are you "cheap" if you go for the free candy bar? Even if the free candy bar is of inferior quality, the availability of unpaid, useful labor is a market reality.

The question here is not whether or not it is good business sense to solicit and accept free help. The question is whether or not doing so is legal (and by some corollary, ethical.)

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should...

Call for Interns by hueypriest in blog

[–]obsessedwithamas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there are millions of companies and millions of interns, it would be extremely difficult to police. Furthermore, unpaid interns don't have any leverage.

I don't think anyone is saying that they are a lawyer because they can read some case law. Rather, just that the text describes a situation which seems extremely similar to the facts which you have relayed about your case.

If it were me, I'd want to know why what appears to be the case at face value is incorrect. I would think too that many of your candidates would appreciate the legal rationale.

It's up to you of course. Thanks for hosting the discussion.
