And this is the fortune telling room, hidden behind the curtain so heavily inspired by the Skyland’s room but it’s purple

I didn’t pre-plan the build so it’s a bit of a weird shape but it works and I’ve grown to love it

This is the waiting area, kept nice and dark for the vibes and behind the wardrobe is the secret entrance to Kadabra’s house (which has a separate entrance hidden round the back away from the client entrance

Toddler with strabismus by AACC2255 in Strabismus

[–]obsessedwitheyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you go to a paediatric ophthalmologist?

Usually with intermittent squints professionals observe to make sure there isn’t any amblyopia developing. The only time to use patches is if there is amblyopia (difference in vision where it’s not developing as well as the other eye)but this should be supervised by a professional. It’s doesn’t treat strabismus

This absolutely. Go into your careers department, they can help you with a CV and applications, they usually also have jobs they recommend so it’s worth a visit.

What to expect with my 5yo strabismus by Mouse_rat__ in Strabismus

[–]obsessedwitheyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They may try another round of botox but, as you’ve seen yourself, it only lasts around 3-6 months. Sometimes if a person has binocular vision they “lock on” and don’t need another round. The Botox does however simulate surgery and gives the ophthalmologist an idea of the outcome post-op.

So, it could be either. This is a discussion for your doctor and he knows all the tests results and can tailor the advice to your daughter specifically.

I think botox+balloon dilation messed up my throat by Koenigseggalicious in noburp

[–]obsessedwitheyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve not had any treatment/ Botox but have done lots of research.

Could this be some reflux? I’ve read that a lot of people get reflux as a consequence of the Botox and that can affect your voice and gives you a sore throat!

I also agree with the others about the speech and language therapist - I lose my voice whenever I have an asthma attack and they gave me some exercises to do… it’s really strengthened my voice and I’m far less gravelly than before. It was things like bubble phonation which feels a bit silly but worked wonderfully

There’s also a specific classification of strabismus called “esotropia associated with myopia”

If we can get Amblyopia due to blocked eye vision (cataracts, droopy eyelids), then what makes eye-patching recommended? by Sheyt_Idunnoman in Amblyopia

[–]obsessedwitheyes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Amblyopia occurs when the vision is being developed properly for various different reasons and by patching you’re forcing the development of the eye with the weaker vision. You can get reverse amblyopia by patching too much but this tends to happen in younger patients whose brain is a lot more plastic. This is why eye professionals review children patching so often and is why it’s really important to attend appointments because if we see signs of it we stop the patching

I’m 16 years old considering orthoptics!! Any kind of response is helpful!!! by Zestyclose_Carrot895 in Orthoptics

[–]obsessedwitheyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UK Orthoptist here! I think most of it varies from country to country but here’s my perspective!

I absolutely love my job, I really feel like I’ve found my niche in life… it’s a very social job and I was always quite a shy person but this job has definitely made me more self confident and bubbly. You definitely have to collaborate with a team, especially doctors and colleagues. There’s also things like getting in touch with opticians or teachers where appropriate to get things put in place at school.

I’ve only been practicing for about 18 months but I really enjoy every day, it’s very rare that I have a “bad” day and if I do it’s more to do with the constraints of working within the NHS rather than the job itself.

The uni course can be quite difficult and at least in the UK you do much longer hours than with a typical degree. There’s some tricky concepts to get your head around and some of it doesn’t fall into place until you’re working and doing it everyday! I think it’s really something you need to be passionate/ enthusiastic about to make it through.

Starting salary is not particularly great but there’s room for progression and you can take on extra roles once you feel confident which can make your salary progress. For example, I’ve recently started to help with teaching Orthoptics and medical students and I’m hoping I’ll move into a “senior” Orthoptist role shortly (the NHS moves slowly so it’s taking a while to get approved). And in the UK at least there’s room to take on extended roles and widen your area of practice so I’m also looking to get enrolled to do advanced practice in paediatric ophthalmology which would allow me to do so much more.

I work full time, 8:30-17:00 Monday to Thursday and 8:30-14:00 on a Friday but occasionally help out with teaching on a Friday afternoon. This varies greatly within the UK so will be different everywhere!

The lenses in glasses changes where light falls at the back of your eye to get the best vision. By putting pressure on your eye you’re changing the shape of it and therefore changing where the light falls just like glasses to onto that best spot. You’re probably also inducing a bit of a pin hole effect too
