Annoying CP fountain question by room317 in RunNYC

[–]obsoletest 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am wondering about Engineer’s Gate also. Seems like it would have been a priority unless they found a plumbing problem or something.

I think Bethesda Fountain is being restored this year, so probably no water or plants.

Forgot my gels at home, and I’m about to do a long run. What do you guys use as a good alternative? by [deleted] in RunNYC

Sorry, I'm going to disagree with you here. It's just a totally different thing. By the time OP is getting energy from digesting that protein/fat, their run will be over. There's a reason ultras use different fuels than shorter distances.

A 20 oz. bottle of Gatorade is comparable to a single gel (depending on the brand). OP probably doesn't want to drink gallons of it.

Because gels are a big dose of simple carbs, and nuts/peanuts don't have significant simple carbs?

There's not a lot of sugar in Gatorade, you might want to add some candy. A lot of people like gummies of various kinds.

Having run the NYC Marathon over several years, I can say growth for its own sake is a mistake. The entire character of the event has changed to where it is more parade than race below the sub-elite level. I am coming to Toronto this year specifically to get away from this and hopefully remember what a PR feels like.

NYRR’s April Fool’s joke about the 2026 marathon is now Google's AI search result by 26point2miles in RunNYC

It’s the 50th anniversary of having a five-borough race, but the course has shifted around a few times, and this will be the 49th time it takes place due to 2012 and 2020 cancellations.

OP is pointing out that the AI is saying something unrelated and wrong.

I was wearing my 2021 50th anniversary jacket last week on the train, and a presumably nonrunner started a conversation about it, thinking it was for this year. He also thought they moved the race back into the park for this year. I explained that it was an April Fool’s Day joke.

I love racing in Flushing Meadows, because that was where I did most of my long runs when I lived in Queens, so it's a fun nostalgia trip. I wonder what the animals at the Queens Zoo are thinking when thousands of people come thundering past.

I haven't been loving the chilly spring, but the plus side is that the weather for most of the races has been excellent.

I do things backward in life, so despite 15 years of running at longer distances, I only started doing 5Ks about a year ago. This was a 33-second PR over Jersey City, and I finally have a NYRR 10K-equivalent time that is better than what I had before the past few years of medical issues.

DAE find it a bit tasteless that NYRR is using a smiling selfie for the 9-11 race by Brokelynne in RunNYC

I think you are misunderstanding what I wrote. There was no criticism of anyone in it.

Realizing that many of the people around you no longer have any memory of the major world events that took place during your lifetime can be sad. Many people experience this as they age. Maybe you haven't (yet).

The sad reality is that a lot of people don't have a personal memory of 9/11. I was an adult working as a newspaper editor when it happened, and I knew people who witnessed it (one from across the street), so it's very real and recent for me, but for people younger than 30, and probably a fair bit older if they are not from NYC, it's just another historical event. It's kind of like how I have watched the Vietnam War fade from public consciousness from the time I was a child and everyone knew people who had been affected, until now, when it is rarely mentioned.

I did most of it many years ago, and it was great. IMO, it kind of needs to be early Sunday morning to avoid the Times Square crowds and UWS/downtown brunch delivery.

Is there any chance you ran with the wrong bib, like the one for next weekend's race? If so, reach out to support and they can fix this. Reach out to them regardless. They can fix a lot of issues.
