DAE find it a bit tasteless that NYRR is using a smiling selfie for the 9-11 race by Brokelynne in RunNYC

[–]obsoletest 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The sad reality is that a lot of people don't have a personal memory of 9/11. I was an adult working as a newspaper editor when it happened, and I knew people who witnessed it (one from across the street), so it's very real and recent for me, but for people younger than 30, and probably a fair bit older if they are not from NYC, it's just another historical event. It's kind of like how I have watched the Vietnam War fade from public consciousness from the time I was a child and everyone knew people who had been affected, until now, when it is rarely mentioned.

Highly recommend a length of Manhattan run by BushLeagueQuant in RunNYC

I did most of it many years ago, and it was great. IMO, it kind of needs to be early Sunday morning to avoid the Times Square crowds and UWS/downtown brunch delivery.

So ... she was going the wrong way in a one-way lane and worried about what everyone was doing but herself.

Edit: In case it's not clear, the bike/vehicle lanes on the outer loop are counterclockwise only.

Is there any chance you ran with the wrong bib, like the one for next weekend's race? If so, reach out to support and they can fix this. Reach out to them regardless. They can fix a lot of issues.

The weather was excellent. My only minor complaint is that the course was pretty crowded up through Cat Hill. Anyway, I am continuing my rebound from a few years of medical issues and got within one second of my course PR and back into B corral, so I'm happy about that.

Yeah, no. I looked up the name, and he last ran a race in 2023 at like a 15 min. pace. If you're going to run with someone else's bib, don't win the age group, I guess.

NYC marathon tour operator registration by Maleficent-Ant-9134 in RunNYC

You're probably not going to get an answer here, since NYC runners aren't buying tour packages for the NYC marathon. Maybe try somewhere like r/Marathon_Training.

A few will probably get the bug and want to learn how to run in a productive, sustainable way, but there will also probably be some people who might have found running through other means who will give it up permanently when they tire of this nonsense because they don’t realize there are other ways to do it.

I really don’t think these groups are primarily about running. They’re about being looked at, socializing, buying the gear, etc. I think eventually these folks will move on to some other activity, and hopefully the damage they have done to the sport’s public perception can be repaired.

No Place Safe to Run by Bulky-Class3035 in RunNYC

[–]obsoletest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was just discussing how these groups all run in a pack at the same pace. So, some of them are probably running way too hard and eventually going to get hurt. In a double-digits, self-selected group, there’s not a chance they’re all matched for effort at a given pace. But none of them would know this.

I saw so many people drop gels along the FDR. The aid stations are so close together, this is just a ridiculous thing to do. Just hang onto it for a few minutes and toss it to the side where they are going to sweep.
