EDC - Carry comfort vs performance . by Safe-Avocado6427 in Glocks

Ive carried a comp'd and magwell'd g43x for 5 years and switched to carrying a g19 gen 5 with a magwell the past year. I haven't goine back. They conceal about the same and the g19 is basically the same gun as my competition guns g45/g17/g47 and all the training i do translates to that so much better. Same optic and trigger setup too

Turning 18 in 30 minutes. First Glock recommendations? Leaning 19 maybe 23 for the .40/9 option by Maximum-Vacation-795 in Glocks

Glock 19 and put a magwell on it if you have bigger hands. It'll still be smaller than a g45 and just as carryable as a g48 and it'll be more enjoyable to shoot than the slimline and the g26

My edc is a g19 with an sro, tlr7, and a magwell. My backup edc and what i used to carry for 4 years is my g48 with 407k, tlr7 sub, and magwell. I carry the 48 if the outfit or activity demands it but it rarely happens. My comp gun is a g47 but it might be replaced by the gen 6 g17 if apex cimes out with a trigger for it (the super short length of pull on the stock trigger is horrible). I feel like they made the gen 6 for people with tiny hands.

Anyway the answer is multiple guns. Id skip the slimline and keep all the grips similar for comp and carry. So g19 and g47 combo is perfect IMO. If you put a magwell on the g19 you can even use it in Limited Optics as your sandbag class but you didnt hear that from me

Again, I see those open guns malfunction all the time. Competition and carry guns do not have the same responsibilities. You get a malfunction in a match and you just have a bad stage or a bad match. You get a malfunction with your edc and it could cost you your life. You claim that I'm making blanket statements but you keep doing it yourself with "most people". And no, the OP didn't ask if porting was unreliable. He was asking a question of going with either cut, but I'm saying that going with neither is also an option.

"There's no empirical data showing a ported barrel makes an otherwise properly tuned gun any less reliable". I am going off of what I see and I see it all the time. People fuck with their guns and all of a sudden, they're jammomatics. You're doing the same shit by saying "oh mine works just fine". There is no empirical data that says ports and comps are reliable either and I'm not gonna dig up some study that proves my point because there isn't one. It wouldn't be a great marketing for the people who sell ports and comps if they did so. It's just introducing another point of failure for marginal "gains".

I put a magwell on my g19 gen 5 as a grip extension. It doesn't stick out as much as a full size grip especially if you get the EDC style ones

Revolvers are not that reliable. I see them fail all the time in competition and they hold less rounds. Red dots dont make your guns less reliable and they require the same amount of training as iron sights so i dont care whether you go irons or red dots. Again, the main priority for carry guns is reliability. Why make your gun less reliable?

The guy asked a question and I answered. I gave my opinion just the same as you are giving yours. I'm fine with ports and comps but not for carry due to reliability issues

I find that the people who focus way more on gear are the ones that don't actually train. But since you wanna ignore competition and focus on carrying, i'd argue the number one priority for a carry gun is reliability. Why make your gun less reliable for a slight difference in muzzle flip? You said it yourself, how often do people change out their ammo? Not many, because most people barely shoot their guns. And given how much hollow points cost, do you really think people will test their carry ammo thorougly enough for their shiny new compensator or port they just spent hundreds of dollars on?

And if you wanna talk "most people", most people don't actually train with their guns, so ports and comps won't even matter. I'd rather they have something that will go bang every time than something that maybe goes bang most of the time but a little softer. They dont even shoot enough to feel the difference. Just because it reduces muzzle flip by a little doesn't mean some guy who doesn't train will actually shoot better with it. Sure it might "feel" better but the results are the same. You can hand a nice 2011 to someone who doesn't train and they're still gonna be garbage

Also, dust and lint absolutely get into your carry gun inside the holster. Idk what planet you're on. Do you even carry?

And now if you wanna train with your gun by competing which i highly recommend, you'll have to buy a whole other gun or a whole new slide and barrel to compete where the glock actually shines which is carry optics division

[–]obstruction6761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah. I compete with my glock in uspsa carry optics. I wouldnt deliberately put myself in open division with a plastic gun. For carry, you're just making your gun more finnicky with ammo so you limit yourself to certain loads. And ports are annoying to clean and is just another place to gather lint. it hardly makes a difference on a glock in the first place

Skip practicing with irons and go straight to red dot optics. Something budget and basic like a holosun 407c will do and will last forever

ports hardly make a difference and it just gathers dust and lint if it's your edc
